If you're looking for support as you prepare for the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT), Varsity Tutors is ready and waiting to help you connect with others studying for the same test in a Memphis MCAT course. There are many topics covered in the MCAT, and the test is filled with concepts that other medical school students, professors, and doctors feel are important to an aspiring doctor's success.
Admission to practically all of the medical schools in the U.S. and many in Canada requires that a prospective student submit their MCAT results. This includes the University of Tennessee College of Medicine. Timeliness is also important because many medical schools do not accept MCAT scores that are more than three years old. When you sit down for this multiple choice exam, it will be delivered on a computer. There are 230 questions divided into four sections. You'll learn about those sections in more depth below. After you complete the test, you'll get five scores: a single score for each unique section, which ranges from 118-132 on each section, and a combined score of all sections, which ranges from 472-528.
What can I expect from Memphis MCAT prep?
You'll find the following sections in the MCAT and in your Memphis MCAT prep course: Biological and Biochemical Foundations of Living Systems; Chemical and Physical Foundations of Biological Systems; Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills; and Psychological, Social and Biological Foundations of Behavior. The seated time for the test is approximately 7.5 hours, while the test itself is expected to take 6 hours and 15 minutes. Let's start with the section on Biological and Biochemical Foundations of Living Systems.
The Biological and Biochemical Foundations of Living Systems section has 59 questions, and the time limit is 95 minutes to complete the section. The question breakdown is as follows: 10 passage-based sets of questions with up to six questions to answer per passage, as well as 15 independent questions. In this section, scorers want to know how much you know about how cells and organ systems function independently and when working together, how cells can maintain their internal environment, how organisms acquire materials and energy, and how both organisms and cells react to the environment. These questions focus on general and organic chemistry, introductory biology, and basic biochemistry.
There are 59 questions in the Chemical and Physical Foundations of Biological Systems section, and you'll have a 95-minute time limit. The types of questions in this category are broken down as in the Biological and Biochemical Foundations of Living Systems section. Your score on this section tells medical school admissions boards how much you know and understand about the tissues, organs, and organ systems that make up the human body. It also explores how much you know about the chemical and physical principles of living systems. The questions focus on your knowledge of general, inorganic, and organic chemistry; introductory physics, introductory biology, and basic biochemistry.
There are 53 questions to analyze your Critical Analysis and Reasoning skills. You'll have 90 minutes to read and answer nine passage-based sets of questions. There may be up to seven questions to answer for each passage. This section examines your knowledge of basic components of a text, how to integrate components to better understand a passage, and how well you can pull meaning from compositional elements. This section score tells admissions boards how strong your verbal reasoning and analytical skills are and how strong your reading comprehension is.
Finally, the Psychological, Social, and Biological Foundations of Behavior section has 59 questions, also with 10 passage-based sets of questions which could have up to six questions each, and 15 independent questions. It focuses on skills you'll need to serve a diverse population, social issues currently in medicine, and how behavior can affect health. It examines your knowledge of how people think of themselves and others, as well as how cultural and social well-being can affect people's health as a whole.

As healthcare continues to change, we need competent nurses that are both: strong leaders and teachers. I have extensive experience tutoring high school students as well as adult learners in math, science, and Spanish, having worked as a GED instructor at a local community center. Research areas include nutritional biochemistry and mechanical CPR. Spanish is a passion of mine, but I also love biochemistry, pharmacology, and anatomy/physiology. Working through question sets with explanations is, I think, the best way to approach any subject. Here to help!... Number one: be patient. Never judge a student for not getting it the first time. ...physiology. Given the amount of schooling I have gone through myself, I have taken a wide range of subjects and more standardized tests than I would like to admit. I have taught students of almost every age in various fields such as elementary science, Hebrew, chemistry, MCAT prep, and many more.. My ultimate plan is to go to medical school, but in the meantime I try to teach as much as possible!... I know firsthand what it is like to be bogged down by material from way too many classes at once. And it can become even more difficult to focus when you throw a standardized test like the SAT or the MCAT into the mix. Because I have been through it, I bring to my students the unique perspective of a recently stressed out student myself, who can communicate with them on a personal level. I work to understand what is the most difficult, the most motivating, and the most rewarding for my students.

...lot of explanation. In most things, I'm not that guy! Like many students, understanding comes with repetition of principles and hard work. I have the perspective of a student trying to understand, not a teacher trying to preach. I love working with people from the ground up; we start at the comfort zone and work our way to improvement. I know I don't know everything, so I'm excited to learn as well!... Start where you are and work up from there.
