Tackle the Chinese language in an effective way by enrolling in a Spokane Chinese course provided by Varsity Tutors. When it comes to learning Chinese, choosing effective study options is essential. This is one of the most unique languages in the world, but it's also one of the hardest to learn. This is especially true for English speakers, as the two languages have almost nothing in common. You might be approaching this challenging language from a number of different backgrounds. Maybe you're interested in a program that has a language requirement at Whitworth University or Gonzaga University. In the case of these language requirements, you might be asked to take a test that assesses your knowledge of a particular language. Mastering Chinese could really help in these situations. A deep understanding of Chinese might also be extremely valuable in your professional career. Many entrepreneurs and professionals across many industries choose to learn Chinese, as this language gives them a major advantage. China is hugely influential on international trade, and networking with Chinese contacts and companies could be much easier with a solid grasp of their languages.
When most people talk about the "Chinese Language," what they're actually referring to is Mandarin. This is the most common Chinese dialect, and by extension, it's the most common language on planet Earth. Over a billion people speak Mandarin across many different nations. Mandarin is just one dialect within China, and there are many others. These dialects include Xiang, Wu, Gan, and others. There's also Cantonese, which is actually the second most common Chinese dialect. Cantonese is actually fairly common in the United States. These various dialects are completely distinct from one another. Mandarin and Cantonese speakers can't easily understand one another, and in fact, the Chinese even have a special phrase for this: "The chicken talking to the duck." Even though the various dialects of China feature different oral languages, the writing system is universal. The Emperor Qin Shi Huang Di unified the various dialects under one common writing system after conquering the many provinces of China thousands of years ago. Some characters of the written Chinese language date further, and were created almost 4,000 years ago during the Shang Dynasty.
What Might A Spokane Chinese Course Cover?
Both the written and the spoken Chinese language have almost nothing in common with English. The written Chinese language is the last remaining pictographic system. Ancient Egyptians and Ancient Mayan writing systems also used pictographic elements thousands of years ago. Pictographs are characters that might represent entire words or phrases. It's a completely different system compared to English, and there are over 50,000 characters in the Chinese language. Although only 20,000 are used with any degree of regularity and one can be considered fluent by knowing the main 2,500 characters, this number still dwarfs the 26 characters of the English language. The spoken Chinese language is just as confusing for English speakers. Mandarin Chinese uses a tonal system to add even more complexity to each word. Any single word might have four tones: falling, rising, flat, or falling and rising. These tones give the same words completely different meanings. And that's just Mandarin Chinese. Other dialects have up to nine tones to learn and master.
Not all aspects of the Chinese language are confusing and challenging. Pluralizing nouns is actually very easy in the Chinese grammatical system. While English typically adds an "s" to each noun that needs to be pluralized, Chinese nouns stay the same, no matter what. This is one of the rare cases where Chinese might actually be easier than English. In fact, this is why Chinese speakers can have trouble learning the English language.
Your course will cover all kinds of other interesting topics, such as proper pronunciation, common phrases, and many grammatical rules. You'll also gradually expand your vocabulary, memorizing various Chinese words in both written and spoken forms. One of the most important parts of learning any language is having plenty of opportunities to practice and gain experience. Rest assured, your Chinese course will give you plenty of time to gain confidence as you gain a deeper understanding of the Chinese language.
