About Me

My approach is rooted in the Science of Reading. Literacy must be taught explicitly and systematically. I focus on the "Big Five "phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension, giving struggling readers and ELL students the specific tools they need to decode the English language. With over 20 years in education, I hold a BA in Technical Education and an AS in Early Childhood Education. For the past three years, I have specialized in virtual instruction, and I currently teach reading on-site at Kumon. I am in my final semester at Franklin University, completing my BS in Education to become a Certified Reading Specialist. I deliver results through empathy. I maintain a 90% standardized test passing rate and have helped students jump two reading levels in just six months. I understand the pressure of standardized tests and create a "brave space" where students gain the confidence to turn academic frustration into mastery.
