I believe a good tutor should help a student to understand the study of a topic rather than simply providing them with the information required for their current assignment. As an academic writing tutor, I will not simply correct the mistakes in an essay that a student has already written, but rather, I will teach a student techniques to help them efficiently illustrate their points in their future writing, as well as in their current work.
