Hi, my name is Bob Gannon. I am a retired Electrical Engineer with over 35 years of experience teaching other engineers and helping them understand difficult subjects. I have a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Maryland and a Master's degree from Johns Hopkins University. I am passionate about learning and I am continuously working to improve my skills. While working with you, if there is a topic that I am not very familiar with, I will research it and come up with the best way to present it to you. I look forward to working with you to help you understand your subject matter and enjoy learning. When we work together, we are a team, and I will do whatever I can to help you excel in whatever subject we apply ourselves to.
When I was in high school, I remember seeing the joy of my math teachers when they would teach in class. This inspired me to become a high school math teacher. The first step was becoming a peer tutor to my classmates. This lead to tutoring math to college students. Then tutoring students while working as a TA. Then I worked as a data scientist which not only did I understand more how to apply math in the workspace, but also learned how to explain math concepts to coworkers without a strong math background. This helped me to shape my tutoring philosophy to relate to the person being tutored and this opened the door to me teaching high school calculus 1 & calculus 2!
I am a graduate of Brigham Young University. I received my Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Mathematics Education. Since graduating, I have tutored students privately amidst my growing family. My students ranged from fifth grade through high school. I love math. I'm a visual person so I love geometry for that reason. I love being able to draw a picture to help my students understand the concept we're working on. I am passionate about problem solving. I think it's amazing what you can discover with calculus, so I love helping students be a part of that discovery. I like to guide my students to the correct answer following their line of thinking. There are different ways to get to the same answer so I like to help them find the way that makes sense to them so they will understand and remember the principle. Aside from math, I love baking new desserts each week, running around with my kids, crafting anything, playing my violin and piano, and watching movies.
I am now a rising sophomore at Barrett, the Honors College at Arizona State University, on track for concurrent majors in Asian Studies and Global Studies. In high school, I was Valedictorian as well as President of the National Honors Society; in college, I have made Dean's List both semesters, have two simultaneous Research Assistant positions, and have been nominated as an Honors Teaching Assistant in the Fall semester! Someday, I want to work in academia, both out of my love for learning new things and teaching rising students. I tutor all kinds of history, English, essay writing, ACT/SAT prep, pre-algebra and algebra, biology, and, believe it or not, classical and medieval Latin. I also have experience tutoring students with learning difference like ADHD!
I am a junior at Arizona State University double majoring in Justice Studies (BA) and Psychology (BS). I love working with children and teens and have been able to do so for the past eight years through leading small groups at my church, nannying, my work as a habilitation provider, and tutoring students of all ages. My love for education has given me a passion to succeed in academics and help others do the same, no matter their struggles. I tutor a variety of subjects, but two of my favorite are reading and math. I love to watch students gain a deeper appreciation for reading and understand the importance of problem solving, which can be taught through math. With the right resources and support, all students are capable of academic success and I teach with this in mind. My goal is to make my students feel empowered, able, and excited to learn. In my spare time, I love to read, tap into my creative side through art or music, and spend time outdoors!
I am a native Chinese (Mandarin) speaker currently living in the US. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Chinese Language and Literature in China and earned my Master's degree in Marketing Communications from the University of Melbourne in Australia. Professionally, I am a marketing expert with experience across various industries and countries. As an enthusiast of Chinese literature, I love reading and writing in both Chinese and English. I am deeply passionate about helping people understand Chinese language and culture, believing that language is the fundamental bridge that connects different cultures and helps people communicate better. My MBTI type is 'ENFJ,' which is perfect for teaching because I find immense fulfillment in helping others. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, writing, creating content, running, and occasionally bowling.
As a dedicated tutor with over 6 years of experience, I am currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Medical Device Development and Application with a minor in Biology at the University of Arizona. My passion lies in making complex subjects like AP Chemistry and high school math accessible and engaging for my students. I believe in fostering a supportive learning environment where curiosity is encouraged, and I adapt my teaching methods to meet each student's unique needs. I find immense joy in witnessing their academic growth, and I strive to instill confidence and a love for learning. I can't wait to get to know you and help you succeed!
I am well suited to teaching various levels of math to different customers.
As an aspiring physician currently pursuing my Bachelor's in Physiology and Medical Sciences at the University of Arizona, I am passionate about empowering students to achieve their academic and personal aspirations. With over 5 years of tutoring experience across a diverse range of subjects including ACT, SAT, AP exams, and college application essays. I have developed a keen understanding of the unspoken rules that govern these assessments. My approach is student-centered and adaptive; I tailor my strategies to meet individual learning styles, whether that means incorporating engaging games for those with attention challenges or allowing self-directed learners to guide our sessions. Having recently navigated the same academic landscape as my students, I am intimately familiar with the pressures they face, and I strive to demystify the testing process. I am particularly excited about tutoring AP Biology, AP Calculus, and college applications, as these areas require not just content mastery but also strategic insight into what admissions officers are truly seeking. Outside of tutoring, I enjoy cooking, 3D printing, and weightlifting, all of which enrich my perspective and foster a supportive learning environment. Through tutoring, my goal is not just to teach but to mentor, equipping students with the tools they need to thrive in their educational journeys.

Yes, Varsity Tutors connects students from across Gilbert's 109 schools and 13 school districts with personalized tutoring. Whether your student attends a school in the Gilbert Unified School District, Chandler-Gilbert Community College area, or any other local district, we can match them with a tutor who understands their specific curriculum and academic needs.
Personalized 1-on-1 instruction is particularly effective for helping students master Arizona's academic standards at their own pace. Tutors work with students on the specific concepts they're struggling with—whether that's Arizona's math standards, English language arts benchmarks, or science competencies—rather than moving through material at a classroom pace. This targeted approach helps students build confidence and close gaps before they widen.
Gilbert's average student-teacher ratio of 17:1 means many students don't get the individualized attention they need to truly master challenging material. Personalized tutoring fills that gap by providing 1-on-1 instruction focused entirely on your student's learning style and pace. Research consistently shows that personalized instruction significantly accelerates learning compared to classroom instruction alone, especially for students who need extra support or want to get ahead.
The first session is about building rapport and understanding your student's specific needs. The tutor will assess your student's current level, discuss academic goals, and identify areas where they need the most support. This foundation helps the tutor create a personalized learning plan that's tailored to your student's strengths and challenges.
Gilbert students seek tutoring across a wide range of subjects, with math and English being among the most common. Many students also benefit from support in science, social studies, test prep (SAT, ACT, Arizona assessments), and foreign languages. Whatever subject your student needs help with, Varsity Tutors can connect you with an expert tutor in that area.
