I am a recent graduate of the University of Colorado at Boulder. I received my Bachelor of Science in Chemical and Biological Engineering with a minor in French. During my time at CU, I studied abroad in Paris, as well as being a Teaching Assistant for Chemistry, Biology, and Fluid Mechanics for engineers and often helped my peers with homework. During the summer and fall I teach percussion for a local high school marching band. While I tutor a variety of math and science topics, my favorite subjects are chemistry and physics, as I love exploring the ways in which the world works. Education is of the highest importance to me, and I wish to share this passion with my students. In my spare time, I like to read suspense novels, play a variety of string instruments, and play Legend of Zelda.

After a successful career at McIntosh High School in Peachtree City, GA, I matriculated to the University of Georgia. Seeking a degree in Neuroscience, I am working my way to med-school and a bright future. Active in both the Honors program and Center for Undergraduate Research, I have developed a great work ethic which I hope to impart to my students! I've spent the past two summers teaching private swim lessons to children and adults throughout my community. Turning a person's goal into reality is the greatest thrill I've known! Similarly, I spent two semesters as a mentor at the Thomas Lay After-School Program in Athens, GA. There, I both tutored and befriended the children of the program. My favorite memory occurred during mandatory reading hours. A stubborn, apathetic boy refused to read any books. Rather than becoming frustrated, I asked him "If you could be any animal, what would you be?" I knew the library had a large section of zoology books, and hoped to pique his interest. Immediately, he responded "A fish!" The following weeks were filled with shark, octopus, and whale books. To this day, his transformation from disinterested to engaged and motivated fuels my desire to mentor today's youth.

I am going to start undergrad at MIT in the fall of 2022 with the aim of majoring in linguistics. I have tutored elementary and middle school students in violin for four years, in addition to casual tutoring in history, writing, and languages. More important than helping my students reach the right answers is helping them ask the questions that will lead them to answers. I learn best when I find an aspect of the subject I'm studying that I'm passionate about, so I try to help my students find curiosity for the given subject. I enjoy tutoring violin, writing, and math the most.

I presently teach at the college level and I have also taught mathematics from grades K-12. Students benefit from tutoring sessions with me because they feel confident with the assignments they are given, and are able to retain and utilize the concepts that I have taught them. I know that they usually understand or master the topics I teach them, because I informally assess them at the end of the session and their results are at or above the level they are expected to be at. In addition, I use approaches where I relate the subject matter to their personal interests where they can form a connection.

Frequently Asked Questions

Not at all—in fact, starting in 10th grade gives you a significant advantage. Many students taking AP English Literature or AP English Language exams are juniors or seniors, but building strong reading comprehension, analytical writing, and textual analysis skills early means you'll be better prepared when you take the actual AP exam. Plus, the skills you develop now will strengthen your performance in other classes too.

A tutor can help you develop habits around close reading, thesis construction, and evidence-based argumentation that will serve you well whether you take the exam in 11th or 12th grade.

AP English essays require specific skills: crafting a clear, defensible thesis, selecting relevant evidence from texts, and explaining how that evidence supports your argument. A tutor can give you personalized feedback on your drafts that goes beyond general comments—identifying patterns in your writing, helping you strengthen weak arguments, and teaching you to vary your sentence structures and vocabulary strategically.

Consistent practice with targeted feedback is what builds stronger writing. Tutors often work through multiple drafts with students, showing them how to revise for clarity, complexity, and impact rather than just correcting surface errors.

Many 10th graders struggle with the density and complexity of AP-level texts. The key is developing an active reading strategy: annotating as you read, identifying the author's purpose and tone, tracking how arguments develop, and noting literary devices or rhetorical strategies. A tutor can teach you specific annotation techniques and help you practice on real passages so you can identify what matters without getting overwhelmed.

It also helps to understand that you don't need to catch every detail on a first read—AP English rewards selective, purposeful reading. Tutors can show you how to prioritize what to focus on and build confidence with difficult material.

Test anxiety often comes from uncertainty—not knowing how to approach a question or doubting your analysis. A tutor can reduce that anxiety by building your confidence through repeated practice with timed conditions. When you've worked through dozens of essay prompts and multiple-choice passages under time pressure with feedback, the actual exam feels much less intimidating.

Tutors also teach practical strategies: how to allocate time across sections, how to quickly organize your thoughts before writing, and how to recognize when you're overthinking versus when you genuinely need to reconsider your analysis. These concrete tools help you feel more in control during the test.

AP English Literature focuses on analyzing fiction, poetry, and drama—you're examining literary devices, character development, symbolism, and theme. AP English Language emphasizes rhetoric and nonfiction—you're analyzing how writers use persuasive techniques, argument structure, and tone to influence audiences.

If you're in 10th grade, you might be exploring both to see which aligns better with your strengths. A tutor can help you understand the differences in how you approach texts and what skills each exam prioritizes, making it easier to choose which path to pursue.

If you're preparing over several months, aim for 3-5 focused hours per week, depending on your starting point. That might include reading and annotating practice passages, writing timed essays, reviewing feedback, and studying specific skills like analyzing rhetoric or identifying literary devices. Quality matters more than quantity—two hours of active, deliberate practice with someone providing feedback is worth more than five hours of passive reading.

A tutor helps you use practice time efficiently by targeting your specific weak areas rather than drilling everything equally. They can also create a realistic schedule that fits your other coursework and builds progressively toward test readiness.

Your first session is usually diagnostic. A tutor will likely have you work through a practice essay prompt and a few passage-based questions to see where you currently stand—How strong is your thesis writing? Can you identify rhetoric and literary devices? How do you manage your time? Where do you make careless errors versus conceptual mistakes?

This gives the tutor a clear picture of what to prioritize. Some students need foundational work on text analysis, while others have solid reading skills but struggle with essay organization. From there, you'll develop a personalized plan focused on your actual needs rather than generic test prep.
