I am a graduate of Stanford University, where I received a BS in Cognitive Science and an MS in Computer Science. After graduation, I spent a summer in Palestine, where I taught web development, app development, and entrepreneurship to a cohort of overenthusiastic high school students; now, I've moved halfway across the country from the Bay Area to the Twin Cities. From volunteering with organizations like Twin Cities Rise and The Mid-Continent Oceanographic Institute to checking out art institutions like the Walker and Mia, it's been such a wonderful time settling into this new place that I call home.

I am a native of Shanghai, China who has been living in the United States for the past four years. I hold a bachelor's degree in International Trade from Shanghai Jiaotong University in Shanghai, China, and in 2009, I completed a Masters of GlobalManagementdegreeat Antwerp University in Belgium. I am also an ICA certified mandarin instructor holding a Certificate of Accreditation in Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language.
I'm a freshman here at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. I graduated from Wayzata High, and I'm currently pursuing a Bachelor's of Science in neuroscience. At the University, I'm usually in class, studying, hanging out with my friends, or at club meetings! In my free time, I love to breakdance, write poetry, debate politics and economics, and participate in practically every nerdy endeavor possible (huge Star Wars fan!!). I love to talk and will talk your ear off if you let me! I love trying new things, exploring the city, and traveling. My teaching philosophy is that teaching is a responsibility and a privilege; I'll put 110% into teaching if you put the same effort into learning. With hard work and patience, anything is possible!
I graduated from Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota, with a Bachelor of Arts degree, having majored in mathematics. Since then, I've worked for a number of health technology companies as a business analyst, usually helping to bridge the communications gap between programming staff and end users with clear documentation and presentations. I was also a theater nerd in high school and college, and (with my wife) developed and co-taught an elementary/middle school theater program for our neighborhood school. I've been a private tutor in mathematics for a number of years, working with local families on a handful of subjects, mostly pre-calculus and calculus. My favorite part of tutoring is helping my students to see that one little insight that can unlock the whole of the subject or lesson, and helping them pick the right tool or method to get a good answer.
I'm more likely to give an answer quickly when a teacher asks a question if I have a habit of properly attuned instincts. So, if I want your confidence to grow, I need to redirect the water your instincts flow through to the proper conduits of careful thinking.
I am an educator and artist with a passion for languages. I have experience teaching in both Minneapolis and Paris, and I have tutored in K-12 core subject matters - math, science, language arts, and social studies. I have my Master's of Education from the University of Minnesota in Second Languages and Cultures with a narrow focus on English as a Second Language. I am fluent in French and have an intermediate level in Spanish and Arabic. My main goals when working with students is to meet them where they are at in their learning, as well as use creative ways to make knowledge accessible. When I'm not teaching, I am spending time outside, reading up and working on anti-oppression, and watching movies. I am also a novice herbalist and astrologer, and hope to dedicate more time in learning about our plan(t)cestors and how they help with healing.
I am a class of 2015 graduate of Boston College. I have been brought to the world of tutoring because of my desire to help students through the stressful time of taking those big scary standardized tests. Both the ACT and the SAT gave me a large amount of anxiety when I was a junior in high school and I want to help other students through this process. This desire brought me to tutor kids in the local Boston high schools while I was in college and now I have taken my talents to the Twin Cities.
Hi my name is Reed and I am a graduate from Carleton College with a degree in Economics. I have a passion for helping students learn and achieve their academic and personal goals. At Carleton, I played Varsity Soccer, hosted a radio show, and served as an economics prefect/TA for introductory microeconomics classes. In this role, I both held classroom sessions and tutored students individually. It was rewarding to see the results of my efforts and the impact I could have on other students. I am at an expert level in many math and economics areas. The key to my process is helping you not just 'get the answer' but also understanding the process of how to get there. I want to help students of all ages and make them think and have fun while learning.
I am working as a Special Education Social Worker in Minneapolis. My experience includes a wide range of subjects and abilities but some of my strongest subjects are reading, writing social studies, and study skills. I think learning should be a fun and encouraging experience and look forward to making learning fun for my clients.
I'm Lilly, a junior at the University of Minnesota studying Product Design and Mathematics. I have a long history of taking standardized tests (SAT, ACT, and 14 APs), so I know that they can be a major point of stress. I'm dedicated to seeing you succeed in any and all tests you need to take through test-taking strategies and material mastery instruction. I look forwarding to meeting you!

I am an incoming Epidemiology and Global Health Master of Public Health student at the University of Minnesota. I received my undergraduate degree in Mathematics from Grinnell College in 2020 and also have extensive coursework in philosophy, biology, chemistry, and physics. I worked as a calculus tutor in Grinnell's math lab and tutored a professor's 8th grader in recreational math, competition problems, and ACT math test prep. I'm an alumni of the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth (CTY) and enjoy juggling, sudoku, and creating origami tessellations.
I am a supportive teacher but I always push my students to succeed. I don't teach based on what my students can already do, I teach based on where I know they are capable of going and what they are capable of doing. I also make sure to talk with them. No one knows how the students learn best more than the students themselves. I bring multiple approaches and vantage points, ready to hit every possible arena and hopefully perk the students' learning style at some point.
I am currently based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. I was born into quite a small family of one sister and two brothers. My late father was a public servant, and my mother is a retired civil servant who is currently based in Accra, Ghana. My father died of an unknown sickness exactly a year when I graduated from college. I was born and raised in Accra, Ghana; Accra is the capital city of Ghana. All my family are based in Ghana, and I am the only one whos currently in the United States.
I'm experienced in and passionate about (especially computer skills, Python, and math) with others. I try to convey the principles and thought process that are the basis of my own understanding of the subject, not just rules to follow or things to memorize. Being able to explain your answer is even more important than simply getting it right! My tutoring style is personalized, with plenty of examples and frequent knowledge checks to ensure I and my student(s) are in sync. In my spare time I enjoy cycling, skiing, woodworking, reading, and vacationing to Lake Superior.
I'm dedicated to critical thought and careful, clear writing. In my independent written work, I focus on issues of political economy, critical theory, and the social and political impacts of technology. I recently also have begun to work on a science fiction novel. In tutoring, I hope to encourage students to approach writing and language with ease and technical competence. I have extensive experience in many academic areas, and can help develop skills for large research projects, short essays, standardized test taking, and everything in between. Nothing is too complex to be broken down clearly and mastered!
I am an Economics and Political Science major at the University of Minnesota. In addition to being a tutor at Grade Potential, I work as a debate coach at Como Park High School in St. Paul. I am a senior undergraduate student at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities studying Genetics, Cell Biology and Development. After graduation, I will attend medical school (where is still being determined), where my goal is to become an academic physician who both cares for patients and educates residents and medical students. My favorite subjects are biology and chemistry, but I enjoy physics and humanities courses as well. My teaching experience includes teaching and tutoring summer school math (and doing some test prep work) to high school students in Rochester, MN. I also have given saxophone lessons. I love teaching, and I believe strongly in active, problem based learning. For science courses, I have considerable experience working in two cancer research labs, so I can help put that material in a real-world context. Outside of academics, I love playing and listening to music (I play jazz and blues saxophone), watching sports of all kinds, and playing basketball, golf and racquetball.
I am particularly passionate about math as well as standardized test prep. I studied math on a double-accelerated track throughout middle school and high school, covering math from algebra to multivariable calculus. Aside from teaching academic subjects, I am also trained in playing the piano and violin, having taken lessons for piano from the ages of 4 to 18 and playing violin in my school orchestra from 5th to 12th grade. I love working with students to improve their skills in an area of study, and my favorite part is getting to see them gain confidence in themselves and their own abilities!
I am currently a student at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities and working toward a Master's in Counseling and School Personnel Psychology. I have worked with students in varies capacities, such as daycare facilities, summer school programs, and school environments. The students I have worked with range in grade levels from elementary school all the way through college. I tutor in English, Art, Phonics, Reading, Social Studies, Social Sciences, Writing, essay editing, some test prep, and, of course, Psychology. I feel that my strengths lie in the areas of Psychology, Writing, Reading, and Essay Editing. I want to make the tutor-tutee relationship a positive, educational, and fun one. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, writing, photography, biking, cooking and baking, and listening to and playing music.

I am a current student at the University of St. Thomas, working towards my major of Computer Science and while I am proficient in a broad range of subjects I love math and science the most. Before university, I was able to travel with my family to a lot of places and meet a huge variety of people because of this I love meeting new people. I love hearing about their family dynamic or their group of friends at school and exchanging funny stories along the way.
I am a biomedical engineer working in orthopedic research. My degree is from Arizona State University in Biomedical Engineering. I have experience helping people learn in many different stages of life, from age 3 to adults, including preschool, elementary, middle school, as well as high school students. I love math and science and I love sharing that love with other people. Technology is also a passion of mine and I have experience helping people get up to speed with helpful skills for the professional environment.
I am an enthusiastic and eager tutor specializing in English and creative writing. I was always the friend who edited everyone's essays in high school and college, so I decided to turn it into a side gig! I have experience in legal writing/editing, screenwriting, and journalism, making me a great copy editor. My kind and patient nature allow me to offer objective feedback without diminishing the confidence of the student. I also love helping young writers find their voice! I'm a firm believer that you don't have to give up your creative spark to get a certain grade; there is always a way to achieve both. Whether it's getting an A on an assignment or writing or a top-tier college admissions essay, I look forward to helping your student reach their goals!
I am a student at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities pursuing a BS in mathematics, as well as minors in creative writing and computer science. While I do not have any formal experience with teaching, I have spent much of my academic career tutoring friends and family to help them succeed in school, and I have personally improved the grades of many of my peers through studying sessions with me by as much as 30%. I am a friendly and casual tutor, but my enthusiasm for helping others to learn is likely my most important quality as a tutor. I would appreciate any opportunity to help you or your child to improve their school performance.

Minneapolis students seek tutoring across a range of subjects, with math and reading comprehension being the most common areas where additional support makes the biggest impact. Varsity Tutors connects you with tutors experienced in whatever subject your student needs help mastering.
With an average student-teacher ratio of 17.6:1 in Minneapolis schools, many students benefit from one-on-one attention that addresses their specific learning gaps. Personalized tutoring fills that gap by allowing tutors to focus entirely on your student's individual needs, learning pace, and questions—something that's difficult for teachers to provide in a classroom setting. This targeted approach helps students move from struggling with concepts to mastering them.
Your student's first session is designed as a getting-to-know-you meeting where the tutor learns about their current level, specific challenges, and learning goals. The tutor will assess what's working and what needs improvement, then create a personalized plan moving forward. This foundation ensures that all future sessions are targeted and effective for your student's unique needs.

Whether your student is working toward proficiency in reading, math, science, or social studies, personalized tutoring helps them master the specific skills and content outlined in Minnesota's standards. This alignment means tutoring reinforces and accelerates what students are already learning in school.
