I am an aspiring applied mathematician, with particular interest in image processing and climate science. I graduated in May 2017 from Washington University in St. Louis with a bachelor's in physics and mathematics, and am beginning a PhD program in September 2017 at the University of Chicago in Computational and Applied Mathematics. I've tutored introductory physics students for three years and enjoyed it thoroughly, as a chance to help other students while revisiting fundamental concepts to enhance my own knowledge. I am a recent medical school graduate currently taking a research year. I used to tutor with Varsity Tutors before matriculating into medical school, and coming back to assist my fellow medical professionals with USMLE tutoring feels like somewhat of a homecoming. During my time with students, I feel like patience is one of the most important things when trying to get through to a student, and coincidentally, my name means 'patience is good' in my native language. Good writing develops critical thinking and clear communication. It can take you a thousand different places.Right now, Im a tutor, an editor & writer for a magazine, and a student. Much of my time in college has been spent studying the humanities, especially English literature, but Ive also had the chance to become close with people who have completely different focuses. From artistic and creative-minded people (I helped start an annual arts review at my school last year) to industry and STEM-oriented people like my roommate, Ive learned a lot about the different paths you can take. Next year, Ill get to put some of that knowledge to use as a Resident Mentor in the flagship living/learning colleges my university is launching.
