Education should be alive. My object as a writing tutor is to help my clients harness the power of language and reason in their assignments. I aim to stimulate independent critical thought and to help my clients produce clear, organized, and well-informed writing. By supporting students in the writing process, I assist them in discovering and refining their own ideas, and then developing, organizing, and structuring them properly according to the assignment. I'm a creative writing student and a passionate reader. I look forward to helping students grow as writers and produce high-quality projects.

My passion for learning continues as I am currently pursuing a PhD in Systems and Engineering Management. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about Mathematics, Computers, Business, and Continuous Improvement initiatives. In my experience, helping share my knowledge with others has been very rewarding. I am a firm believer in self-improvement, with education leading to an improved quality of life. I aim to challenge and share this passion with my students as they learn concepts, with both formal scheduled tutoring or supporting immediate tutoring needs. In my spare time, I enjoy outdoor activities, domestic and international travel, and time with family/friends.

Elementary School Math Tutor • +10 Subjects
After graduating Sycamore High School in Cincinnati, OH in 2016, I am currently a sophomore at Lipscomb University. I am working towards getting my Bachelor's degree in social work, with plans to obtain a Master's in school counseling. For a year and a half, I spent two days a week with a middle school-aged student. I helped her complete homework and study for tests of various subjects, including math and Spanish. My favorite subject to tutor is definitely Spanish because it has always been my favorite subject in school. It was something that I always enjoyed, and I loved to learn more about the language. With tutoring, I like to give the student a chance to show me what he or she knows first, so I can get an idea of what level the student is working at. If they are struggling in specific areas, I will work closely with them until it seems like they are starting to understand the content. If they just need a push in the right direction, I will be there to do that, but if they need content retaught to them, then I will provide that help as well.I don't know if I have any "hobbies," per se, but I enjoy baking, playing board games with my family and friends. I also enjoy traveling and becoming familiar with new places. I was raised to love baseball, and it's on my bucket list to visit every MLB park in America!I would describe myself as patient, and laid-back. I am simply here to help students where they're struggling, I am not here to get frustrated when someone may not understand the material! I am hopeful and confident that anyone can learn, but we just all learn differently.

Frequently Asked Questions
Tenth grade is a pivotal year where students encounter more complex, abstract concepts across all subjects. In math, students struggle with algebraic reasoning and the transition to geometry or advanced algebra. In English, they're expected to analyze literature more critically and write with greater sophistication. In science, the jump to chemistry or physics introduces challenging problem-solving skills. Additionally, many 10th graders are balancing increased coursework with extracurriculars and social pressures, making time management and focus especially difficult. Personalized tutoring helps students build confidence in these areas by breaking down complex topics and working at their own pace.
In a classroom of 25+ students, teachers must pace lessons for the average student, which means some 10th graders fall behind while others get bored. Personalized tutoring identifies exactly where each student struggles and targets those specific gaps. A tutor can spend an entire session on quadratic equations if that's what your student needs, then pivot to essay structure the next week. They also adapt their teaching style to how your student learns best—whether that's visual diagrams, hands-on problem-solving, or detailed written explanations. This customized approach typically leads to faster skill development and stronger conceptual understanding than one-size-fits-all classroom learning.
The best tutors for 10th graders combine subject expertise with the ability to explain complex ideas clearly. They should understand 10th grade curriculum standards and know where students typically struggle. Beyond knowledge, great tutors are patient, flexible, and skilled at building confidence in students who feel lost or frustrated. They ask questions to understand a student's learning style and adjust their approach accordingly. They also hold students accountable while keeping sessions encouraging and productive. Varsity Tutors connects you with tutors who meet these standards and have proven success helping 10th graders strengthen skills across subjects.
Measurable outcomes depend on your student's starting point and goals, but most students see meaningful progress within 4-8 weeks of consistent tutoring. This might look like improved test scores, stronger homework completion, better grades on essays or problem sets, or increased confidence in class participation. Beyond grades, many students develop better study habits, stronger time management, and a genuine understanding of concepts rather than just memorizing for tests. The key to seeing results is consistency and clear goals—working with a tutor to identify specific skills to target, then tracking progress regularly. Varsity Tutors helps you set realistic goals and match your student with someone who can help them achieve them.
This depends on your student's needs and the subjects involved. A tutor with strong expertise in English, history, and writing might effectively help with all three, since these subjects share similar skills. However, specialized subjects like geometry, chemistry, or foreign languages often benefit from tutors with deep subject expertise. Some 10th graders do best with one trusted tutor they build rapport with, while others prefer specialists for different subjects—it really depends on your student's learning style and where they need the most help. Varsity Tutors can help you decide the best approach and connect you with tutors who are experts in the specific subjects your student needs support in.
Ideally, tutoring does both—but the balance matters. If a tutor only helps your student finish homework, they might complete assignments without truly understanding the material, which hurts them on tests and future coursework. The best tutoring builds underlying skills and conceptual understanding so your student can eventually handle homework independently. A skilled tutor uses homework as a window into what concepts need reinforcement, then teaches those concepts thoroughly. They might work through a homework problem together, but the focus is on helping your student understand why the solution works, not just getting the right answer. This approach builds confidence and long-term academic success.
Tutors working with 10th graders understand state and national curriculum standards for their subjects. They know what concepts are typically covered in each grade level and the progression students need to follow. Before starting, a good tutor will ask about your student's specific curriculum, textbooks, and teacher expectations so they can tailor their approach. If your student is preparing for state assessments, AP preparation, or specific standardized tests, tutors can align their instruction to those goals too. This ensures that tutoring reinforces what's happening in class rather than teaching in isolation. Varsity Tutors matches you with tutors who are familiar with major curriculum frameworks and can adapt their instruction to your student's specific school and learning goals.
