- This means that I often use concepts from mathematics, biology, and chemistry at an advanced level in my studies at Hampshire.
- Both of these experiences have given me insight into how to break down difficult concepts into smaller parts.
About Me
I graduated from South Eugene High School in 2012 and have been continuing my education at Hampshire College with a concentration in cognitive neuroscience. This branch of study is very broad and ranges from biochemistry and molecular biology to mathematical models and studies in artificial intelligence. I have had previous tutoring experience as a math tutor at Hampshire College and by writing tutorials to explain software for Moonshadow Mobile. My goal as a tutor is to help my students understand the basic building blocks and to create an environment where they can put the blocks together themselves . People tend to think of math and science as analytical rather than creative, and I think that this is misleading about the true nature of these fields. Outside of school I paint, draw, sew, and design clothes and jewelry, and I approach math and science with similar creativity. I think that math and science can be very creative and that learning how to interact with math and science creatively can be an invaluable part of someones education. I want to find out how to motivate people to think about math and science in a creative fashion that is fun and interactive rather than simply giving them a list of formulas to work with. I am excited to be working as a tutor. I think that this can be an enriching experience for both me and my students.
