About Me

I sincerely believe that teaching is one of my life-callings, and I am here because I thoroughly enjoy working with students and watching them succeed in their academic studies. As a Mathematics major at the University of Arizona (currently a junior), I have extensive experience teaching and tutoring: I have been a teacher's assistant for a Calculus II section at my university and have spent a great deal of time assisting students with non-math related subjects as well such as English and essay-writing, time management and study skills techniques, and standardized test prep (SAT).I take pride in being well-rounded. For this reason, I enjoy teaching the SAT. Having mastery in all subjects is the key to having a good, well-balanced SAT score for applying to colleges. It may take some extra patience, a modification in my teaching technique, an adjustment in the student's study habits, or simply finding and unraveling what the student's motivation is. But the potential for academic success is there for everyone! I succeed only if the student succeeds, so I will do everything in my power to bring out the potential in every student. My career goal is to be a pilot in the US Air Force when I graduate. I enjoy flying and am currently working on my PPL (Private Pilot's License) whenever I have the time. In my spare time, I also enjoy staying active with playing sports (I love ultimate frisbee and racquetball) and hiking the beautiful trails that Tucson has to offer.

Q&A with Scott

My approach varies with the student. While one student may respond well to one technique, another might be doing better with something completely different. Adaptation based on the student's needs is the key to teaching. How would you help a student stay motivated? Setting goals is the key for staying motivated. It's fascinating to see how much goal-setting can kick-start a student's drive and determination to get work done. I find that accountability is also very important--whether it is with a parent, a classmate, or a tutor, having somebody continually check up on your goals is the fast-way to real accomplishment in academic studies.
