The method that was taught at Tennessee State University's College of Engineering reinforces a structured approach to problem solving by having the student list the problem statement, identify the known and unknown quantities, list relevant theories/equations, and provide assumptions. I have always believed that getting the right answer is secondary to understanding the material and feeling confident in the ability to apply it correctly.
