10+ years of tutoring
John
- Having come from a family of teachers, I've always enjoyed sharing my knowledge with others and helping them reach their goals in education.
About Me
I have 10 years of experience tutoring/teaching undergraduate students in math/physics at the University of Illinois at Chicago while obtaining a PhD in physics. I've also tutored college and high school students through the African American Academic Network at UIC and the Columbia College Upward Bound program. I believe teaching is an art form, and I am always working to improve every aspect of my teaching style; I've found success by carefully listening to each student's questions to gain an understanding of which methods will work best for that particular student. In addition, having worked for six years as a mechanical engineer before pursuing my PhD, I can offer insight into the real world as well as guidance on possible career choices.
Hobbies & Interests
I live near downtown, so I spend a lot of my free time exploring the city and searching for my new favorite restaurant. I enjoy traveling, and try to make it to some Caribbean island at least once a year for snorkeling and other adventures. I also enjoy live music, especially Chicago blues, board games with friends, playing soccer, cheering for the Bears/Hawks, being a dedicated uncle, origami, and learning anything new about science and nature.
