Three years of academic study with an instructor native to German, who used immersion to help us with fluency and "thinking" in that language. It is still my most fluent language. I also have academic training in Latin. 3 years of study. It would take some review, but I could certainly help tutor a student struggling to learn or master that language. It is certainly a fantastic one to study in terms of understanding much of English, with so many cognates, understanding or working out new word meanings when they possess a recognizable Latin root, or prefix, etc.
