About Me

I attended Colorado Mesa University, where I received my bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences in 2018. Since then, I have worked as a tutor and accrued volunteer hours and experiences to prepare for applying to medical school. In August, I moved from the suburbs of Denver to Durham, North Carolina. My motivation to be an effective tutor comes from my academic struggles and a fixed mindset on my capabilities as a student. In the past, I tutored at-risk and adjudicated youth in high school math, science, and language arts. My style focuses on distilling difficult concepts and enhancing learning through their application while considering individual strengths, weaknesses, and learning styles. I advocate for understanding and being able to apply the material, and that grade improvement will follow. Strong academic habits and efficient studying are just as important as tutoring sessions. I enjoy teaching many scientific disciplines, but I am most excited to tutor biochemistry and cellular biology. These subjects exemplify the "why" of biology, the practical application of organic chemistry concepts, and the interconnectedness of biological and physiologic systems. Biochemistry provides a sturdy base for learning more focused subjects such as endocrinology, neurobiology, and pharmacology. In my free time, I enjoy exercising, spending time with my dog, and watching The Office.
