About Me

Hello! I am a certified middle school English teacher, curriculum writer, and private tutor. My husband is an active duty service member, so I am a work from home parent to meet the needs of our young family in light of the demands of my husband's career. I completed my M.Ed in curriculum and instruction at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Texas. I teach everything from phonics and beginning reading to essay writing and literary analysis. I've planned and implemented countless Saturday reading and writing camp tutoring sessions for my struggling learners, and I enjoy the opportunity to work in a more relaxed small group setting using games and less traditional activities. I believe in the potential of every student as a learner, while some students just need more support and different resources to be successful. I am credentialed to teach middle school English and ESL in Texas and South Carolina. I've been teaching using the science of reading since before it was mandated by the governing bodies in education! The state of Texas, where I taught, requires fourth and seventh graders to take a writing state test in addition to the annual reading exam, so I'm well versed in preparing students for all academic writing tasks. I've led department level, campus level, and district level writing training for teachers. Curriculum planning and development is my passion. I built my own curriculum in my classroom and continue to do so as a tutor, homeschool parent, and homeschool consultant.
