About Me

Dana A. Boyd, PhD Teaching Philosophy As a teacher, my goals are to encourage life-long learning, mastery of content, and develop critical thinking. Resources used to meet the above goals are to explore all of the resources provided by the Varsity Tours, case studies, peer feedback, supplemental materials, videos, readings, and daily interaction via email, texts, and discussion posts. Kolb's experiential learning cycle helps me to focus on and pay attention to a variety of different approaches to learning based on the students. Reflection on assignments, by students keeping a journal, helps students with understanding real world issues and how they might solve them. Metacognition is key in this process. I also like to use a variety of assessments, my own videos, papers, tests, homework, and discussion forums. I am in a continuous process of exceeding my own and the University's expectations. Every student has something new to teach me. I flourish in the feedback from students, peers, and the University as a whole. Reflecting on the above feedback helps me weave in new ideas and concepts that I may not have thought of previously. I love to learn, so continuously learning new information through trainings and by providing these trainings to my peers helps me to be the best teacher I can be for my students.
