About Me
I have a Bachelor's in Chemistry and a Master's and Ph.D. in Philosophy. I was an award-winning high school teacher for 29 years in Eastern Oregon before recently retiring. I also taught philosophy at the University level throughout that time. I can tutor in any areas of the physical sciences -- especially chemistry, physical science, and physics, which are the courses I taught. My tutoring philosophy is simple: I want to help you be successful. That doesn't just mean getting through the problems of today, but learning the skills to be successful on exams later and building skills to help you be successful in life. My passion is to develop new activities, analogies, jokes, and songs to help students learn in a fun, memorable way. I also play chess in my spare time.
Hobbies & Interests
I am always looking for ways to give back to my community -- especially using my skills as a teacher. I volunteer for the SMILE program at Oregon State University (STEM enrichment for disadvantaged youth) and mentor new-service teachers. In addition to chess, I enjoy attending live theater and music, and viewing and collecting fine art.
