About Me
As a passionate educator with a Master's in Teaching English as a Second Language and Bilingual Education from Georgetown University, I have over 33 years of experience in tutoring and classroom teaching across a variety of subjects, including Spanish, English grammar, reading, and writing, both US and world history, economics and personal finance, and world geography. My teaching philosophy centers on creating a supportive and engaging environment tailored to each student's unique learning style. I find joy in helping students discover that "aha" moment, whether through interactive activities or personalized lessons. Having taught diverse learners from different cultural backgrounds, I appreciate the importance of connecting language skills to real-world applications. Outside of tutoring, I enjoy exploring languages and cultures, which enriches my approach to teaching and inspires my students to embrace their own learning journeys.
Hobbies & Interests
My favorite downtime activities are gardening, reading, and playing word games with my family and friends. My oldest daughter lives on her own in New York City, but my middle daughter is living with me as she launches her post-formal education adult life, working in DC as a language specialist. I'm fortunate in that she loves to cook and will often be more than halfway through dinner prep when I come in from working outside. My youngest son is home for the summer and vacations from his studies in Philadelphia. It's great having my kids at home, but I still have lots of time for myself to tutor and prepare curriculum for the coming school year.
