I am a dentist who recently graduated from the University of Pennsylvania. I have always been a tutor driven by a desire to help the student understand the course material beyond the scope of the class and syllabus. I majored in Biology during my undergraduate career, and so I am strongest in math and science courses. I tutor all ages from elementary school to those who are applying for graduate programs. I have helped students for the past 5 years in Biology, Chemistry, and Math at the collegiate and high school level. I also enjoy preparing students for entrance exams such as the ACT, SAT, or DAT. Inviting all those who are curious to learn and hungry to achieve more to connect with me for an ever-enthralling journey up the learning curve!

I am a graduate of Dartmouth College where I majored in History. I also received my M.Ed. from Boston College so that I could become a middle school and high school social studies teacher. Currently, I am working concurrently on my JD (at Duke University) and my Ph.D. in Education (at Boston College) and hope to one day combine the two degrees by working in policy. I have tutored or been in the education field my entire life and love it when I am able to help a scholar learn something new. I love to tutor a broad range of subjects but primarily focus on History and English. I particularly love working with scholars on their college essays and finding ways to get their unique voice and experience into writing. Education is crucial and it is important to work with scholars so that they realize the vast amount of knowledge there is in the world. In my free time, I love putting together puzzles, playing Xbox, or cheering on the Dallas Cowboys! Hobbies: reading, music, art, books, writing

I am extremely passionate about academics and learning; the value of each was inculcated into me at a very young age. I tutor a variety of subjects largely because I have so many areas of interests and have been privileged enough to pursue knowledge in those areas. I even enjoy tucking away "useless facts"...in fact, those very tidbits got me past the Jeopardy! Online Test and into the Contestant Audition!

I am a senior at Virginia Commonwealth University. I am working towards a BFA in Dance and Choreography with minors in Political Science and Psychology. I have served as a TA for a freshman honors writing course at VCU since Fall 2018. I have also assisted and taught children's dance classes. I enjoy babysitting and helping my younger sister with her homework. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about Math, Science, and Psychology. I am also happy to help students prepare for Standardized Tests, particularly with the math portions of the exams. I have always felt respect and admiration towards my teachers in both smaller and more grand situations who have shaped me into the lifelong learner that I am. As a tutor, my goal is to make good on this foundation and show students the same courtesy my teachers have shown me.

I am a patient teacher who can explain problems in many different ways according to how individual students learn best. I only ask that you know and explain to me what topics you do not know or get so far. I know that every student can learn a subject with a combination of practice and patience, but I insist upon consistent effort and sessions. As an educator I do not support last minute cramming as the primary learning method of content for students as it does not lead to retention of material, mastery of larger themes, or the ability to differentiate between subtle differences when problem-solving on tests and exams. I will help my clients when they need extra sessions before Final Exams and AP Exams, but those who have been working the hardest throughout the school year to regularly improve will get preference over those students who are panicked at the last minute, but have put off meeting with me. Hobbies: books, writing, reading, music, films, art

I am exploring my creativity by pursuing a double major in Asian Languages and Cultures with a focus in Korean, studying abroad in South Korea as a Benjamin A. Gilman Scholar, leading workshops that teach 3D printing and CAD for undergraduate students as the president of 3D4E, advocating for the first-generation and low-income student community as the Outreach Chair of the Quest+ Scholars Network, and getting involved with the Society of Women Engineers' outreach committee. I currently hold a work-study position as an administrative clerical aide in the Institute of Sustainability and Energy at Northwestern and was an undergraduate researcher in the John Rogers Lab. As I look forward with aspirations of applying to graduate school, areas of research in biomedical engineering and biotechnology that I am particularly interested in include biomaterials, pharmaceuticals, and drug delivery systems. Outside of the classroom, I enjoy learning on my own and sharing my experience and knowledge with my peers and other students. I hope to make use of my experiences with academics and learning in high school and so far in my undergraduate career in order to effectively tutor students who may be experiencing the same struggles in learning that I also experienced.

I am a graduate of Brown University, where I earned my B.A. in Literary Arts and Visual Arts, taking courses in a wide array of subjects ranging from contemporary American fiction to ancient Indian classics. My first teaching experience came in college when I had the privilege of creating and teaching a series of literature courses at a local community center. There are few experiences I find more enriching than facilitating a meaningful dialogue centered around great works of literature and art. While literature and art are my passion, I also tutor in variety of other subjects, including math, science, and test preparation. I currently work as a lead teacher in the after-school program at Archway Classical Academy in Phoenix.

Frequently Asked Questions
Elementary science often involves abstract concepts that are hard to visualize—like how plants photosynthesize or how the digestive system works. Tutors use hands-on demonstrations, diagrams, and real-world examples to make these ideas concrete and memorable. Instead of just reading about ecosystems, a student might explore how food chains work in a local environment, or use models to understand how the heart pumps blood. This combination of visual learning and interactive explanation helps concepts stick much better than textbook reading alone.
True science understanding means a student can explain why something happens, not just what happens. For example, memorizing that plants need sunlight is different from understanding that sunlight provides energy for photosynthesis. Tutors help students develop scientific thinking by asking questions that deepen understanding—"What would happen if...?" or "Why do you think that occurred?"—rather than drilling facts. When students learn the reasoning behind concepts, they can apply that knowledge to new situations and solve problems independently.
Yes—tutors can guide students through the scientific method, help design experiments, and explain what's happening at each step. Whether your child is growing crystals, testing how different materials conduct heat, or observing how levers work, a tutor can ask guiding questions that help them predict outcomes, make observations, and draw conclusions. This teaches real scientific thinking rather than just following steps, and helps students feel confident tackling projects independently.
Common challenges include struggling to visualize tiny things (like cells and atoms), understanding cause-and-effect relationships (like weather systems or the water cycle), and connecting science to their own lives. Many students also feel disconnected from science because it feels abstract or irrelevant. Expert tutors address this by breaking concepts into smaller pieces, using analogies and models to make the invisible visible, and constantly connecting science to things students care about—like how their body uses energy, why the sky changes colors, or how technology works. Personalized instruction allows tutors to slow down on tricky concepts and move faster through material students already grasp.
The best science tutors combine deep content knowledge with the ability to make concepts accessible and exciting. They ask questions instead of just giving answers, use real objects and demonstrations rather than abstract explanations, and connect science to things students experience every day. They also understand that elementary students are developing their understanding of how the world works, so they encourage curiosity, make space for "I don't know, let's find out together," and help students feel like scientists—not like they're memorizing facts for a test.
You'll likely notice your student becoming more confident asking and answering "why" questions, showing more curiosity about how things work, and performing better on science assessments. More importantly, many students develop a genuine interest in science once they understand concepts rather than memorizing them. They start noticing science in everyday life—observing weather patterns, understanding what's in their food, or getting excited about how things are made. Stronger scientific thinking also supports learning in other subjects, since many advanced skills (like problem-solving and logical reasoning) are rooted in the scientific method.
Elementary science curricula focus on building foundational understanding in life science (organisms, ecosystems, human body), earth science (weather, rocks, the solar system), and physical science (matter, energy, forces). Tutors are familiar with these standards and know how to support what students are learning in the classroom—whether that's explaining a concept their child didn't grasp during the lesson or preparing them for upcoming units. Personalized instruction means tutors can adjust the pace and approach to match your child's learning style while keeping them aligned with grade-level expectations.
