Education should be alive. My object as a writing tutor is to help my clients harness the power of language and reason in their assignments. I aim to stimulate independent critical thought and to help my clients produce clear, organized, and well-informed writing. By supporting students in the writing process, I assist them in discovering and refining their own ideas, and then developing, organizing, and structuring them properly according to the assignment. I'm a creative writing student and a passionate reader. I look forward to helping students grow as writers and produce high-quality projects.

After graduating Sycamore High School in Cincinnati, OH in 2016, I am currently a sophomore at Lipscomb University. I am working towards getting my Bachelor's degree in social work, with plans to obtain a Master's in school counseling. For a year and a half, I spent two days a week with a middle school-aged student. I helped her complete homework and study for tests of various subjects, including math and Spanish. My favorite subject to tutor is definitely Spanish because it has always been my favorite subject in school. It was something that I always enjoyed, and I loved to learn more about the language. With tutoring, I like to give the student a chance to show me what he or she knows first, so I can get an idea of what level the student is working at. If they are struggling in specific areas, I will work closely with them until it seems like they are starting to understand the content. If they just need a push in the right direction, I will be there to do that, but if they need content retaught to them, then I will provide that help as well.I don't know if I have any "hobbies," per se, but I enjoy baking, playing board games with my family and friends. I also enjoy traveling and becoming familiar with new places. I was raised to love baseball, and it's on my bucket list to visit every MLB park in America!I would describe myself as patient, and laid-back. I am simply here to help students where they're struggling, I am not here to get frustrated when someone may not understand the material! I am hopeful and confident that anyone can learn, but we just all learn differently.

Frequently Asked Questions
11th grade social studies usually focuses on U.S. History from the Reconstruction era through the present day, though some curricula may emphasize different periods. Common units include industrialization, immigration, the Progressive Era, World Wars I and II, the Cold War, the Civil Rights Movement, and modern American history through recent decades.
The specific topics and depth can vary by state standards and school district, so it's helpful to review your student's syllabus or curriculum guide. A tutor can align their instruction with exactly what your student is learning in their classroom, ensuring consistent messaging and targeted support on the areas that matter most for their grade.
Many 11th graders struggle with synthesizing large amounts of historical information, understanding cause-and-effect relationships between events, and writing analytical essays that go beyond factual recall. Additionally, students often find it challenging to connect historical events to broader themes and to develop arguments supported by primary and secondary sources.
Personalized instruction helps address these challenges by breaking complex topics into manageable pieces, teaching essay structure and evidence-based argumentation directly, and providing targeted practice on the specific skills your student finds most difficult. Rather than moving at a classroom pace, a tutor can spend extra time on areas where your student needs the most support.
In a typical classroom, teachers manage instruction for 20-30+ students with varying needs, which means pacing and depth are set for the middle of the group. Personalized tutoring allows experts to focus entirely on your student's learning style, pace, and specific gaps. If your student needs more time understanding the Civil Rights Movement or struggles with essay writing, a tutor can dedicate sessions to exactly those areas.
Research on 1-on-1 instruction shows it significantly increases learning gains compared to classroom-only instruction. Tutors can also teach test-taking strategies, help students connect classroom lessons to homework, and provide immediate feedback on written work—all personalized to your student's needs and goals.
An effective tutor should have strong knowledge of U.S. History and demonstrate the ability to explain complex events clearly and engagingly. They should be skilled at helping students develop critical thinking and writing skills, not just memorize facts. Look for someone who understands how to teach document analysis, thesis development, and evidence-based argumentation—skills essential for both classroom success and standardized tests.
It's also important that a tutor understands your student's specific curriculum and learning goals, whether that's improving test scores, strengthening essay writing, or building deeper conceptual understanding. Varsity Tutors connects you with expert tutors who can match your student's needs and work collaboratively with their classroom teacher.
Many 11th graders write descriptive essays that recount historical events rather than analytical essays that argue a point. A tutor can teach the specific framework for strong history essays: developing a clear thesis, organizing evidence thematically, and analyzing (not just describing) primary and secondary sources to support arguments.
Through personalized instruction, your student can practice essay writing with immediate, detailed feedback. A tutor might review one paragraph, explain where evidence is weak, model how to revise it, and then have your student apply those techniques to the next section. This targeted, iterative approach builds writing skills much faster than occasional classroom feedback.
Yes. If your 11th grader is taking or planning to take AP U.S. History, tutors can help build the skills needed for success: analyzing primary and secondary sources, understanding historical causation, writing analytical essays under time pressure, and mastering the breadth of content covered on the exam. A tutor can also help your student develop a study plan, practice with released exam materials, and refine test-taking strategies.
Personalized prep is especially valuable because tutors can focus on your student's weakest topics and essay-writing areas, rather than covering material your student already understands well. This targeted approach makes test prep more efficient and effective.
Common improvements include higher test and quiz scores, stronger grades on essays and written assignments, and increased confidence in class discussions and participation. Many students see noticeable gains in 4-8 weeks of consistent tutoring, especially when they practice regularly between sessions and work on specific, targeted skills like essay structure or document analysis.
The timeline depends on your student's starting point and tutoring frequency, but regular 1-on-1 instruction combined with practice typically produces measurable results. Progress might show up first in homework quality or quiz grades, then extend to major essays and exams as skills solidify.
