I have recently graduated from the Burnett Honors College at the University of Central Florida with a Bachelors degree in Biomedical Sciences. This upcoming year I am going to the Institute of Human Nutrition at Columbia University to get an MS in Nutrition and Metabolism.I have been a tutor for college students for 2 years at my university, teaching Organic Chemistry 1 and General Chemistry. I've also helped high school students with college admission essays, and with kindergartners in the Junior Achievement program.I enjoy working with children and finding creative ways for them to learn the material and to try to inspire a desire to learn by making learning fun for them. I also really enjoy teaching general chemistry, because I find the material fascinating. When I tutor a student, I don't just give them the answers, but rather I guide them to the answers. It is important that a student learns how to find the answers themselves so they do not become dependent on outside sources.

I am currently a student at the University of Missouri Kansas City as a part of their 6 year direct medical program. Medicine is my passion, and I'm thrilled that we are able to interview patients in the hospital and learn from them very early on in the process. The best teachers I've ever had have been more than just adults. They were passionate about the material they taught, and that passion was carried over to me. That is the main thing I hope to show students. A passion that will help them understand the material better. One of my favorite parts of tutoring is getting to know the students' learning style and how they think. The best part is that I have just recently taken all the subjects I have listed to tutor in. The information is fresh in my mind, so I can approach the content from many different angles to help the student understand the material.Outside of school, I spend a lot of my time at Buffalo Wild Wings, hands down the best wings I have ever eaten. Consequently, I also spend a lot of my time exercising - usually swimming or weightlifting.

"You got a dream... You gotta protect it. People can't do somethin' themselves, they wanna tell you you can't do it. If you want somethin', go get it. Period." -The Pursuit of Happyness (2006)As a 140+ time author, hip-hop artist, poet, spoken word performer and content creator - if there is anything that I know about dreams, I would like to tell you that taking your own path isn't the easiest feat in the world.Society teaches us that we should have the picketed fence, the perfect family and the college degree for the spacious cubicle twenty-five miles away from where you live. Honestly, that is not everyone's vision. Some of us do not desire to be average. Some of us do not desire to settle for a life of mediocrity. Some of us do not desire to let the talents and ideas given to us from higher powers go to waste all because we wanted to please someone else by fitting ourselves into their boxes. The world is constantly evolving and us as a species, we must evolve with it.I believe that the freedom of expression, whether it be in the humanities, performing arts, activism or essential services will help us to evolve and become more accepting of our differences. I've had the pleasure to use my aptitude for writing and performing to touch souls and hearts from all walks of life.My passion to heal the traumas of those that came before me along with my own gives me the fuel that I need to continue being of service to others as a beacon of light to show you no matter what life throws at you, never let that stop you in your tracks!

I first began teaching during graduate school, when I took on a small group of piano students in my parents' living room. Over the course of four-and-and-half years, my voice and piano studio grew from three to forty students as young as five and as old as seventy. I also had the opportunity to teach Literature and Drama at a private elementary/middle school for one year. While worthwhile and fun, my experience in the classroom helped me realize that I prefer working with students in a private lesson setting, as it allows me to understand their personalities and preferred learning methods. One-on-one, I am also able to get to know the students in such a way that they feel comfortable asking questions and being themselves throughout the learning process. My formal education and training are in music, specifically classical singing, and I hold a B.A. in Music from Gettysburg College, and an M.M. in Vocal Performance from University of Wisconsin-Madison. While at Gettysburg College, I acted as a tutor for Music Theory I and II students. I also took a number of literature and creative writing courses, along with seven semesters of German and a semester studying Music and German in Vienna, Austria. My love of reading, writing, and languages stays with me, and I still enjoy writing short stories and blogs, reading fictional novels, and brushing up on my German and French skills via Duolingo. While my career is mainly focused in music and private teaching, I have a strong background in administrative and publicity work. As an organization nerd, I revel in arranging paperwork, color-coding calendars, and creating spreadsheets. In my free time, I enjoy cooking healthy meals, baking not so healthy treats, and spending time with friends and family.

I am a graduate of University of Nevada Las Vegas. I received my Masters of Education in Special Education. Since graduation, I have taught for the Clark County School district as a Cross Categorial Special Education Teacher, and as a Short and Long Term Substitute as of 2004. I also tutored during this time. While teaching for the school district as a Special Education teacher I spent time in the resource room and the general education settings, main streaming special needs students from the resource room to the general education room. And in the general education classroom I would co-teach with the general education teacher. This model of teaching is very beneficial for all students and teachers in the classroom. I teach and tutor a broad range of subjects, however the subject I enjoy teaching the most is math. Mostly due to it being a subject that is not gray, you either got the answer correct or you did not and it helps to teach logic. Over the years while tutoring and teaching I would design and implement lesson plans for several tutored students ranging from ages 8 to 18 if not designed and implemented lesson plans for five high school resource/general classroom math classes. I also would organize, track and implement study materials for all my students daily. My teaching philosophy is to be thorough, versatile and try multiple techniques so to help students find their own learning style. Each student is unique in the way they learn and I feel I need to tailor teaching strategies and techniques to the students needs. When I'm not teaching I spend my time caring for my family if not enjoying the things that interest me such as health and travel. Or one of the many hobbies I have like, writing, reading, art and cooking.

Frequently Asked Questions

Global History requires students to synthesize information across vast time periods, multiple continents, and interconnected events—which can feel overwhelming in a traditional classroom setting. Common challenges include:

  • Memorizing dates, names, and places without understanding cause-and-effect relationships
  • Connecting historical events to broader themes and patterns
  • Analyzing primary sources and developing evidence-based arguments
  • Managing the scope of content (often centuries of material compressed into one course)
  • Applying historical thinking skills to essay questions and document-based prompts

Personalized tutoring addresses these challenges by helping students build a coherent narrative of history rather than isolated facts, and by developing critical thinking skills that transfer across units.

In a classroom, teachers must pace instruction for 20-30+ students with varying backgrounds and learning speeds. Personalized tutoring allows tutors to adapt their approach to each student's specific needs. A tutor might spend extra time helping a student understand feudalism before moving to the Renaissance, or focus on document analysis skills if that's where a student struggles most.

Additionally, tutors can connect Global History concepts to a student's existing knowledge, use real-world examples that resonate personally, and provide immediate feedback on essays or practice problems. This targeted approach often helps students develop deeper understanding and stronger exam performance than classroom instruction alone.

Effective Global History tutors combine subject expertise with the ability to make complex material accessible. Look for tutors who:

  • Understand major historical themes and can connect events across time periods and regions
  • Are skilled at teaching document analysis and argumentative writing
  • Can explain the "why" behind events, not just the "what"
  • Are familiar with your specific curriculum or exam (AP World History, Regents Global History, IB History of the Americas, etc.)
  • Can identify gaps in foundational knowledge and address them without frustration

Varsity Tutors connects you with tutors who have demonstrated expertise in Global History and the ability to break down complex concepts into understandable frameworks.

Yes. Different schools and regions emphasize different aspects of Global History—some focus on thematic development, others on regional studies, and still others on specific time periods. Tutors can align their instruction to match your curriculum, whether that's a traditional high school Global History course, AP World History, IB History, or state-specific standards.

If you're preparing for a standardized exam like the AP exam or a state Regents exam, tutors can focus on the specific skills tested: document analysis, comparative history, and long-essay writing. Mentioning your specific course or exam helps ensure you're matched with a tutor who knows exactly what to prepare you for.

Many students struggle with translating historical knowledge into strong essays and analyzing primary sources effectively. Tutors work with students to:

  • Develop clear theses that make historical arguments rather than just summarize events
  • Use evidence from primary and secondary sources to support claims
  • Recognize bias and context when analyzing documents
  • Structure essays around historical themes rather than chronology
  • Practice timed writing to prepare for exams

Through repeated practice with feedback, students develop the critical thinking and writing skills that improve both classroom assignments and standardized test performance.

Outcomes vary based on where a student starts and how consistently they engage with tutoring. Many students see improvements in:

  • Test scores (both unit exams and standardized tests like AP or Regents)
  • Essay grades and quality of historical arguments
  • Confidence in class participation and discussions
  • Ability to make connections between historical events and themes
  • Reading and analysis speed when tackling primary sources

The most significant improvements typically come when students work with a tutor consistently (weekly or twice weekly) over several months, allowing time to build deep understanding rather than cramming before tests. Even a few targeted sessions focused on specific weak areas can yield noticeable gains.

Global History is intentionally broad—covering Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Americas across centuries. Rather than trying to "cover everything," effective tutors help students:

  • Identify major themes and patterns that repeat across regions and time periods (trade, cultural exchange, conflict, innovation)
  • Build a mental framework for organizing information
  • Focus study time on areas emphasized in your specific curriculum
  • Develop strategies for efficiently learning new content

This thematic approach helps students understand history as an interconnected story rather than isolated facts, which actually makes it easier to remember details and perform well on exams that reward deeper understanding.
