As far as my education goes, I went to St. Pius X High School for 4 years, and thereafter, went to the University of Houston for a BA in English and Spanish, and then a Master's in Linguistics at the University of Pompeu Fabra in Spain.I gained experience working with students primarily during my undergraduate career. I worked as a writing consultant at the University of Houston and a tutor for kids of all ages in mainly English, History, Spanish, Writing, and Academic Strategies.I enjoy working with students primarily because I love seeing the satisfaction of a student when he or she overcomes a hurdle. Struggling with schoolwork is no fun, and as the tutor, I like to work with kids so that they can have a better attitude about going through school. Furthermore, I love learning about how people learn. Finally, I love the subjects I tutor--English, Spanish, writing, and many other humanities subjects.As far as my teaching philosophy goes, I believe planning ahead of time is important because too much improvisation can be stressful. I also like to ask students about how they learn best because after all, the sessions are for them.While I like teaching many subjects, I love Spanish and even enjoy tutoring in Spanish.
