I believe one of the most important qualities a person can have is a continuing thirst for knowledge. This thirst isn't measured by grades on a test or how much trivia one can regurgitate or by IQ, but by the ability to think critically about the world - which begins with solid foundations in math, science, and language. Increasingly, as society continues exponentially towards automation and the global exchange of superfluous information, our roles will shift from simple workers to stewards of this growing library. In order to innovate for the future - to deconstruct arguments, reach rational conclusions and develop new ideas - students today will need the fundamental understanding that the giants before them developed.I'm grateful for all of the opportunities I had to enrich my own understanding and cement my passion for learning: patient, creative teachers, a welcoming environment, and people to challenge me. I hope to bring that very passion to every student I tutor, and to help them find ways to achieve whatever they set their minds to.

My belief is that anyone can learn. We all learn in different ways.In life when we set clear goals and bring a ready mindset, our goals are ready to become a reality. My teaching style is based on honing in on the multiple intelligences.I implement a well structured learning hour.A lesson will consist of modeling for the student, student practice by motivating students and focusing on their strengths while gently helping them with their academic weaknesses. In the last five minutes of each session, I incorporate writing in a journal, so students can write down goals and ideas about their school day or even one new concept they have learned and mastered.Later on in time, students can read their journal and see how much they have accomplished!

I believe most people learn best by practicing, but it has to be the right kind of practice. Flailing around at something intimidating, where you don't know how to even start, can be discouraging and counterproductive. I try to provide enough scaffolding to make students feel safe exploring, and to try something else if the first approach doesn't work. I also try to teach the process of solving problems, which students can use for themselves as they build confidence.I have a Masters Degree in Chemistry from Cornell, where I was a teaching assistant for Introductory Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, and Physical Chemistry. While pursuing a PhD at RPI, I was a volunteer tutor for Chemistry and Chemical Engineering students. While working in industry, I taught my co-workers Statistics, Experiment Design, and Technical Writing. More recently, I have been a professional independent tutor, helping students with test prep, Math, Statistics, Chemistry, and Physics. I help teens and adults overcome fears (especially fear of Math) so they can learn more effectively and solve problems confidently.I teach test prep, Math, Statistics, Chemistry, and Physics. I especially like teaching Math, because I find it so satisfying to help students overcome the barriers related to thinking they "can't do Math." Whether my students want to use Math to excel in Science, or to get top scores on standardized tests, or just recognize when somebody is lying to them with Statistics, I like knowing I can help.

I'm a graduate student at UT Austin's LBJ School of Public Affairs, currently pursuing my master's degree in global policy studies. I have a BA in political science from Southwestern University. After graduation, I studied Mandarin Chinese for a year in Taiwan and then went backpacking through China.I can help you learn basic Mandarin Chinese (1 and 2), walk you through your political science studies, or bang out a killer essay. My two biggest priorities as a tutor are to teach you the *practical* skills you need to master your subject, and to give you a learning experience that is both fun and engaging.

Frequently Asked Questions
A compelling grant proposal combines a clear problem statement, a well-articulated solution, and a realistic budget that demonstrates impact potential. The strongest proposals tell a coherent story: they identify a specific need, explain why your organization is uniquely positioned to address it, outline measurable outcomes, and show how grant funding will make a tangible difference. Many applicants struggle with balancing detail and conciseness—your proposal needs enough specificity to convince reviewers of feasibility, but not so much that key ideas get buried. Personalized tutoring helps you identify which elements resonate most strongly and refine your narrative accordingly.
Most grant proposals follow a standard architecture: executive summary, organizational background, problem/needs statement, proposed solution, evaluation plan, timeline, budget narrative, and organizational capacity. However, different funders have different requirements—corporate foundations may prioritize ROI, while government grants demand detailed compliance documentation. The key is adapting your core content to each funder's specific guidelines and review priorities. A tutor experienced in grant writing can help you develop a flexible template you can customize for different opportunities, ensuring you're hitting the elements that matter most to each reviewer while maintaining your authentic voice and compelling narrative.
Grant writing is persuasive, but it's distinctly different from essays or marketing copy. Grant reviewers are evaluating feasibility and impact, not entertainment value—they want evidence-based reasoning, clear metrics, and realistic timelines. You're also writing for multiple audiences simultaneously: program officers who understand your field deeply, board members reviewing dozens of proposals, and financial analysts scrutinizing budgets. This means your voice needs to be professional and credible without being stiff, data-driven without overwhelming readers, and urgent without overselling. Grant writing tutors help you navigate these competing demands, teaching you how to maintain authenticity while meeting the specific expectations of institutional funders.
Grant writer's block often stems from perfectionism or fear of asking for money—the stakes feel high, so many people get stuck trying to craft the "perfect" opening. The antidote is separating drafting from polishing. Start by answering basic questions: What problem does your project solve? Why is it urgent? What will success look like? Write messy answers first, then shape them into narrative form. Many grant writers benefit from talking through their ideas aloud before writing, which helps clarify thinking and builds momentum. Working with a tutor gives you an accountability partner who can help you move past the blank page, ask clarifying questions that unlock your ideas, and provide feedback on early drafts so you're not stuck revising alone.
The budget narrative is critical—it's where reviewers verify that your proposed activities are actually feasible and that you understand your own costs. A vague or inflated budget raises red flags about organizational competence, while a well-reasoned narrative demonstrates fiscal responsibility and realistic planning. Your budget narrative should explain the "why" behind each line item: Why does that position cost that much? How did you arrive at your overhead percentage? What assumptions underpin your projections? Many applicants underestimate this section, but reviewers often scrutinize budgets carefully because they're accountable to funders. A grant writing tutor can help you develop a budget narrative that's transparent and compelling, translating financial details into narrative form that reviewers will trust.
A grant writing tutor provides personalized feedback on multiple levels: whether your proposal clearly articulates the problem and solution, if your language is compelling and credible, how well you've addressed funder priorities, and whether your budget and timeline align with your narrative. You'll get specific revision suggestions—not just "this needs work" but concrete improvements like "tighten this sentence to emphasize impact" or "add evidence here to strengthen this claim." Tutors also help you develop a critical eye for your own work, teaching you how to evaluate whether each section serves your overall argument and whether you're using language that resonates with institutional funders. This iterative feedback accelerates your development as a grant writer far more than solo revision alone.
Most people see meaningful improvement in 4-6 weeks of consistent practice with feedback, especially if you're actively working on real proposals. However, becoming truly skilled at grant writing—understanding different funder types, adapting your voice for different audiences, and developing intuition about what resonates—typically takes 3-6 months of active work. The timeline depends on your starting point and frequency of practice. If you're new to grant writing, a tutor helps you build foundational skills faster by identifying patterns across successful proposals and helping you avoid common pitfalls. Even experienced grant writers benefit from tutoring when they're targeting new funder types or trying to strengthen weaker sections of their practice.
