About Me

After attending college I began my teaching career, I taught middle school student for the next five years. For the last nine years I have taught at the high school level, where I have taught various history courses including Advanced Placement in all of the following: United States History, World History, and European History. I became a teacher because I wanted a job that did not fell like a job everyday with a rigid routine. What I have learned over the years is that each group of students is unique and I most enjoy the end of they year when we can reflect on the journey they took to achieve their success. I am most proud when my students tell me that I made them understand History and they previously saw themselves as bad history students. The reality is history is meaningful to everyone, but it is the teacher's responsibility to help the students make the connections bringing the past to life.

Q&A with Stephanie

I believe in helping students find a path which turns them into lifetime learners. This has been my philosophy for the last fourteen years. As my career has progressed my students have taught me, in order for me to make them want to be a lifetime learner, they must be interested in learning. I often hear students say they do not like to read. I love to hear this because I now have the opportunity to discuss what interests them and show them they do like to read-- they just have not been reading what they enjoy. In my classroom I relate history to modern times so students understand the relevance of history in their lives. For example, a patriotic student can be won over to studying Rome when they are able to see the relationship of the American government to the Roman Republic and Empire.
