About Me

I did my graduate work at Harvard University, where I became a Master of Education. I have always loved language and loved learning, which is why tutoring/teaching is a perfect match for meand you. With my help and the right tools, all of my students are able to overcome any difficulties that their studies might present, because each of my students is guaranteed the opportunity to express him or herself to the best of his or her abilities. I believe that one of my best qualities as a tutor is my skill at inspiring confidence in my students, so they feel comfortable expressing themselves, regardless of their level of ability. In my sessions, I put my clients at ease in such a way that even the most timid student is able to make the most of his or her time with me. Perhaps the secret is that many students are grateful to be in a session where they feel as though they are part of a clan, where relationships are based on respect for one another, and where ideas are listened to and discussed equally, and finally, where it is possible to express oneself in a sarcasm-free zone. While many teachers find it easiest to remain anchored to textbooks, I strive to find innovative ways of teaching that address the diverse needs of all of my students. In addition to my integration of technology into the curriculum in my sessions, I offer a variety of approaches to the disciplines. Although coverage of material is crucial, it is more important to teach students skills than things; also, students learn skills best through an interactive teaching style that demands their participation and challenges their abilities. Certainly, all students need grounding in their disciplines, and direct instruction has its place but I am not as interested in whether students know these concepts; as I am in if they can put them to critical use. My teaching philosophy has both traditional and radical roots, and rests, not only on my being an expert in my field, but on my being a partner in learning with my students. I look forward to our work and sharing my love of knowledge with you.
