Teaching is my fourth career. I've learned my way through the first three by watching others and choosing how to adapt and apply their techniques to the specific purpose of my projects. In high school I was a STEM student before the term existed, but I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Vassar College with a major in Drama and a double minor in English and Art.Starting out on my career path in New York City, I took and taught theater crafts and began to develop prototype design skills while working in live theater, opera, dance, and television/video, and after contributing to Sesame Street, The Muppet Show, and The Muppet Movie, relocated to London through the Jim Henson companies to work on feature films such as Dark Crystal, Dreamchild, Labyrinth, and Little Shop of Horrors. After a time, being at the intersection of a script and its visualization excited me the most and led me to emulate my colleagues who were into concept creation by beginning to research and write story treatments for Labyrinth.Returning to the States to raise a family, I applied what I'd learned about production to the corporate world. My experience and imagination yoked to a client's vision and purpose allowed me to take on a variety of roles: creative director, writer, producer, graphic designer, and occasional project management. As in the past, I often worked in the trenches, this time learning the software that supported and enhanced our efforts. But overall, my focus was to communicate, through language and visual representation, how a project could be realized. I knew that the plan might grow and change as it progressed, so had to be mindful that collaboration, communication, and flexibility were key to adapting to change as we moved toward the client's goal.Although I returned to college and earned a Master's in English and a Certificate in Creative Writing, my progress in the real world still relies on both words and pictures. The more we engage our senses, the deeper will be our ability to convey our intentions to those with whom we live, work, and play. Therefore, I wish to find out how you learn best so that together we may craft a plan for your progress, whatever your goal. Please share your expectations and concerns. Your goal may seem hazy at the start, but as learning is about observing, trying, and sometimes failing, your vision will come into focus. We can course correct as we move forward together to ensure a resolution, even if the destination changes somewhat. That's life, isn't it?

As a teacher, I have seen students first hand struggling to learn in a congested classroom setting. Even one in which there are a significantly reduced number of students in the room. This goes for both general education and special education students. I have also seen them flourish after being given extra one on one attention and time to learn concepts that he or she is struggling with. That is why I wanted to become a tutor in my spare time. I spend every day as an educator and not always able to give the extra attention to the students that require it the most. When tutoring, I am able to spend as much time as necessary on a concept, and use different methods to convey that concept to my students.

I am currently an upper elementary teacher through Teach For America, and I've passed all of my elementary certification exams, while working on finishing my teacher license this academic year from calumet college, St. Joseph. My undergraduate degree is in Economics from the University of Chicago, and I did a lot of statistics, too!I like having kids how to read, write, and do math. Because I loved doing those in school, and I'll be teaching that this up coming school year. To have a struggling reader all of a sudden love reading and attack hard words never before tried is the best feeling in the world.I believe education should be fun, loving, inviting, challenging, and organized.

Hello Prospective Students!I was very lucky as a kid because my parents never held me back and they always helped me exceed expectations in all subject matters. I understand the value of private tutoring because my parents provided me with tutors whenever I needed it.As a result, I did extremely well on My SHSAT and attended the Bronx H.S of Science. With the help of my parents and tutors I was able to do very well on my SAT's and gain acceptance to some of the toughest Undergraduate institutions NYC had to offer (NYU, Macaulay Honors College, etc). Most recently I graduated a top-ranked MBA program, and am ready to give back some of the knowledge I have gained throughout the years to those that need it.Currently I am an Adjunct at CUNY Queens College, teaching Mathematics to graduate and undergraduate students. I also tutor High School students (all Math Regents exams, and Math SAT) and Junior High School students for the SHSAT math section. My hobbies include basketball, soccer, and Judo. Throughout High School I was nationally ranked in the sport of Judo and was an Academic All-American.I have competed nationally and internationally for the United States and have placed at tournaments such as the Junior Pan American games.I know what it takes to be a champion both on and off the mat. I am confident that I can help your children exceed their goals in the field of mathematics!

I began my tutoring experience by working at a summer school as a teacher's assistant. It was a camp I attended as a child, and the reason I decided to work there was that one of my favorite teachers was teaching. I used the opportunity not just to teach, but to learn more under the wing of a great woman. After two summers, I went to college and volunteered for the Big Brothers Big Sisters program. There I was partnered with a fourth grader named Jashawn, we worked together on homework assignments and review, but I like to think he learned a little more than what was just prescribed in his curriculum. Finally, this previous year I have spent every Saturday working at the Saturday Academy, a program through our school's Upward Bound initiative. I tutor a group of students in AP Calculus, AP Chemistry, as well as college prep. I want to be able to teach you the information, not just walk you through problems. My approach may take longer, but I promise it is worth every second to truly understand a topic. My favorite subjects to tutor are Calculus and Algebra. I have been working with and using Calculus and Algebra for my entire academic career, as well as taking supplemental courses on both in my free time. The reason I want to tutor and love to tutor is because I come from a family of educators, and the most influential person in my life was a teacher. Teachers have always been people I love, respect and look up to, so tutoring is my way of hopefully inspiring people just as much if not more than I was.

Frequently Asked Questions

Taking AP Physics in 10th grade is absolutely possible, though it depends on your math background. AP Physics 1 requires solid algebra and geometry skills, while AP Physics C demands calculus proficiency. Many successful 10th-grade physics students have already completed Algebra 2 or higher math. The key is ensuring you're mathematically prepared—if you're comfortable with equations and problem-solving, you can handle the course. A tutor can assess your readiness and help strengthen any math foundations before or during the course to set you up for success.

Most 10th graders struggle with three main areas: translating real-world scenarios into physics equations, managing multi-step problem-solving under time pressure, and connecting abstract concepts like forces and energy to visual representations. Many students also find the math heavy—even when they're good at math, applying it to physics feels different. Additionally, the AP exam rewards both conceptual understanding and calculation skills, so students need to master both. Personalized tutoring addresses these gaps by breaking down complex problems into manageable steps and building confidence through targeted practice.

Ideally, start dedicated exam prep about 2–3 months before the AP test in May. This gives you time to review all units, identify weak areas, and practice full-length exams under timed conditions. Many high-performing students benefit from starting earlier—even just 1–2 hours per week of tutoring during the school year helps reinforce concepts as you learn them. The key is consistent, focused practice rather than cramming. Working through practice problems, taking diagnostic tests to pinpoint gaps, and refining test-taking strategies (like time management for the free-response section) significantly impacts your score.

A great AP Physics tutor understands both the content and the exam format. They should be able to explain concepts in multiple ways, help you visualize problems, and teach you how to structure solutions the way AP graders expect. Experience with AP scoring rubrics and common student mistakes is valuable—tutors who've seen thousands of student responses know exactly where people lose points. They should also adapt to your learning style, whether that means lots of diagrams, real-world examples, or working backward from answers. Most importantly, they should help you build problem-solving intuition, not just memorize formulas.

Score improvement depends on where you're starting and how consistently you engage. Students who work with a tutor 2–3 hours per week typically see 1–2 point improvements on the AP scale (1–5), though some improve more dramatically if they address fundamental gaps. A student scoring a 2 who gets targeted help on free-response problem structure and exam pacing might reach a 4; someone at a 3 who refines their approach could hit a 4 or 5. The most significant gains come from combining tutoring with consistent independent practice—your tutor diagnoses what's holding you back, but you need to reinforce those lessons through problem sets between sessions.

The free-response section (about 50% of your score) rewards clear reasoning, not just correct answers. Start by reading the entire question carefully and identifying what's being asked. Then sketch the situation, list known and unknown variables, and write the physics principles at work before diving into math. Show all steps—graders give partial credit for correct methodology even if your final answer is wrong. Time management is critical: allocate roughly 15 minutes per question. Practice this approach with full free-response sections under timed conditions so it becomes automatic. A tutor can help you learn to spot which physics principles apply quickly and structure your solutions to match AP expectations.

The multiple-choice section gives you about 1.3 minutes per question—tight but doable with practice. Start by solving 10–15 questions under timed conditions to identify your baseline speed. Then strategically skip harder questions on your first pass; you can return to them if time allows. For each question, read the stem fully before looking at options, and eliminate obviously wrong answers first. Practice with real AP questions (from College Board's released exams) to get comfortable with the format and question types. Many students waste time on calculation-heavy questions early on; learning to spot which ones to tackle first saves critical minutes. A tutor can analyze your practice test performance to spot where you're losing time and help you build speed without sacrificing accuracy.
