I am a graduate of the State University of New York at Albany. I graduated Cum Laude in May, 2013.I received my Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics with a minor in Philosophy. Since graduation, I have been coaching wrestling at a nearby high school, as well as serving at a local restaurant. I have been tutoring students since I was in high school, in subjects ranging from simple arithmetic to advanced calculus to SAT preparation. I have even tutored middle school and high school Spanish! My clients have ranged from middle school students to college students. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about mathematics. I have found that there is no correct way to tutor students, for every student has vastly different needs; therefore, I try to always teach in a way that specifically caters to each individual's specific needs. I strongly believe that a good education is key to a happy and successful life. Oftentimes, students just need the right person with the right teaching style for that education to be a fun, easy process. In my free time, I enjoy reading, working out, word and number games, and spending time with my friends and family.

I believe one of the most important qualities a person can have is a continuing thirst for knowledge. This thirst isn't measured by grades on a test or how much trivia one can regurgitate or by IQ, but by the ability to think critically about the world - which begins with solid foundations in math, science, and language. Increasingly, as society continues exponentially towards automation and the global exchange of superfluous information, our roles will shift from simple workers to stewards of this growing library. In order to innovate for the future - to deconstruct arguments, reach rational conclusions and develop new ideas - students today will need the fundamental understanding that the giants before them developed.I'm grateful for all of the opportunities I had to enrich my own understanding and cement my passion for learning: patient, creative teachers, a welcoming environment, and people to challenge me. I hope to bring that very passion to every student I tutor, and to help them find ways to achieve whatever they set their minds to.

My belief is that anyone can learn. We all learn in different ways.In life when we set clear goals and bring a ready mindset, our goals are ready to become a reality. My teaching style is based on honing in on the multiple intelligences.I implement a well structured learning hour.A lesson will consist of modeling for the student, student practice by motivating students and focusing on their strengths while gently helping them with their academic weaknesses. In the last five minutes of each session, I incorporate writing in a journal, so students can write down goals and ideas about their school day or even one new concept they have learned and mastered.Later on in time, students can read their journal and see how much they have accomplished!

I believe most people learn best by practicing, but it has to be the right kind of practice. Flailing around at something intimidating, where you don't know how to even start, can be discouraging and counterproductive. I try to provide enough scaffolding to make students feel safe exploring, and to try something else if the first approach doesn't work. I also try to teach the process of solving problems, which students can use for themselves as they build confidence.I have a Masters Degree in Chemistry from Cornell, where I was a teaching assistant for Introductory Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, and Physical Chemistry. While pursuing a PhD at RPI, I was a volunteer tutor for Chemistry and Chemical Engineering students. While working in industry, I taught my co-workers Statistics, Experiment Design, and Technical Writing. More recently, I have been a professional independent tutor, helping students with test prep, Math, Statistics, Chemistry, and Physics. I help teens and adults overcome fears (especially fear of Math) so they can learn more effectively and solve problems confidently.I teach test prep, Math, Statistics, Chemistry, and Physics. I especially like teaching Math, because I find it so satisfying to help students overcome the barriers related to thinking they "can't do Math." Whether my students want to use Math to excel in Science, or to get top scores on standardized tests, or just recognize when somebody is lying to them with Statistics, I like knowing I can help.

Frequently Asked Questions
7th Grade Physics typically covers foundational concepts in motion, forces, energy, and waves. Students learn about speed and velocity, Newton's Laws of Motion, different types of forces (gravity, friction, magnetic), energy forms and transfer, simple machines, and basic wave properties. Many curricula also include introductions to electricity and magnetism.
A tutor can help students master these concepts by connecting them to real-world examples—like understanding how friction affects a skidding car or how levers work in everyday tools—making abstract ideas more concrete and memorable.
The best physics learning balances both, but understanding comes first. At the 7th Grade level, students should focus on grasping why objects move the way they do, how forces interact, and how energy works—not just plugging numbers into formulas. Formulas are tools that support understanding, not the goal itself.
Personalized tutoring helps build true comprehension by walking through the reasoning behind concepts, using visual demonstrations and real examples. When students understand the 'why,' formulas become natural tools rather than mysterious equations to memorize.
Tutoring supports lab work by helping students understand the scientific method, predict outcomes before conducting experiments, and interpret results meaningfully. A tutor can explain what's happening during an experiment and why the results matter—not just helping students complete a worksheet.
This approach deepens learning because students develop scientific reasoning skills alongside content knowledge. Tutors can also help troubleshoot when experiments don't go as planned, turning those moments into valuable learning experiences about experimental design and variables.
Many 7th graders struggle to 'see' invisible forces like gravity or magnetic fields. Expert tutors use multiple strategies: drawing force diagrams, using physical demonstrations with everyday objects (like rolling balls or magnets), creating animations or models, and asking students to sketch their own understanding. This multi-sensory approach helps concepts stick.
Personalized instruction allows a tutor to identify which visualization method works best for each student—some learn through diagrams, others through hands-on objects, and others through analogies to familiar situations. This customized approach transforms confusing abstract ideas into clear mental pictures.
Students often struggle with: understanding how forces work together (not just individual forces), connecting speed/velocity/acceleration concepts, interpreting distance-time graphs, and seeing how energy relates to motion and heat. Many also find it hard to apply concepts to new situations beyond textbook examples.
Tutoring addresses these gaps by breaking concepts into manageable pieces, using multiple examples and practice scenarios, and helping students build problem-solving strategies. Regular practice with real feedback helps students move from confusion to confidence.
With consistent tutoring, students typically show improvements in test and quiz scores, stronger comprehension of core concepts, and greater confidence tackling unfamiliar problems. Beyond grades, students develop better scientific reasoning skills, learn to ask smarter questions, and gain the foundation needed for success in higher-level science courses.
The timeline varies by student and current skill level, but many see noticeable progress within 4-6 weeks of regular sessions. Long-term benefits include improved critical thinking and the ability to apply physics concepts to real-world situations independently.
The best physics tutors combine strong content knowledge with excellent communication skills. They can explain concepts in multiple ways, ask questions that guide student thinking rather than just giving answers, and connect physics to real-world examples that matter to 7th graders. They're also patient with the struggle that's natural in learning.
Varsity Tutors connects you with tutors who have expertise in 7th Grade Physics and understand how to teach at this level. These tutors adapt their approach to match each student's learning style, pacing, and interests—whether that's through experiments, diagrams, or applications to sports and technology.
