I'm incredibly well-rounded in terms of what I'm capable of teaching and moreover, have a generally positive pedagogical approach to everything; I really do love teaching. Even fields in which I have little experience become a contest with myself to master solely for the sake of helping a student. I have extensive experience in reading, writing, and editing (I've been published several times over as both head author and editor) and its something that I truly love to do. I currently hold three Undergraduate degrees in Mathematics, Physics, and Linguistics, as well as two Graduate degrees in Philosophy and Theology. From basic English to advanced Banjo I look forward to engaging in any assignment that anyone may have for me!

I am a bioengineer who has experience working in the biotech startup industry. I received my Master of Science in Engineering in Bioengineering from the University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelor of Science degree in Neuroscience from the University of Pittsburgh. While at the University of Pittsburgh, I started to tutor my fellow peers in Engineering Physics I: Mechanics and Engineering Physics 2: Electricity & Magnetism, and it was then that I discovered my passion for tutoring. Seeing a student not only understand physics, but actually enjoy learning about it was easily the most rewarding aspect of tutoring. Their enjoyment led to success and further study of the material, and I was very happy to have contributed to that. From my experiences, I observed that a teaching philosophy based on constant questioning, student participation, and interdisciplinary learning provided the greatest enjoyment and success for students. Relating the material in a manner which the student understands has always been a priority of mine, and combining this approach with a logical, building-block type style has yielded strong results for me and the student. While I do tutor mathematics, usually ranging from Calculus I all the way to Differential Equations, I am most passionate about teaching physics. It is rewarding to see how a student who learns physics understands and appreciates the world around them on a deeper level. In the end, I wish to help students not only learn physics, but also enjoy learning physics, and I hope to spread this appreciation to all my students. Outside of work, I greatly enjoy going to museums, playing and watching all kinds of sports, hiking and other outdoor activities, reading philosophy, and playing guitar.

I am a graduate of Yale University. I received my Bachelor of Engineering Science in Chemical Engineering. Since graduation, I earned a certification to teach English as a Second Language, and traveled to Beijing, China, where I taught at both primary and high school levels (including several math and Physics high school courses). While I tutor a variety of subjects, I have always had a particular passion for math and Chemistry. In high school, I led the Ohio ARML Math team, and earned a gold medal in the State Science Olympiad tournament for the Chemistry Lab event. I bring the experience I gained competing in and writing for a variety of academic competitions to my students when I teach or tutor them, and I love the excitement of pushing students to reach and expand their potential, as well as the fun that comes from a student seeing a question a new way and understanding it on a different level. I know that education and brain-training are necessary for not just success, but fulfillment, in life. In my spare time, I enjoy crossword puzzles, running, bouldering, trivia, and watching a variety of sports (both American and international).

I am reliving the process of learning that concept myself, both by explaining the concept in new ways and by seeing students wrestle with and eventually grasp the concept for themselves. For me, teaching is a way of "living vicariously" through students by experiencing the joy of learning once more. Hobbies: reading, music, art, books, writing

I am a graduate of Brigham Young University where I majored in International Relations and Russian and of Thunderbird School of Global Management where I earned an MBA in International Business. My college and graduate studies include coursework in Writing, Literature, Geography, History, Political Science, Russian, Music, Business, Math, Science, and Art. Because of my experience with many different disciplines, I am able to teach a wide variety of subjects and have experience working with students of all ages from middle school to middle aged. My greatest skill as a tutor is the ability to adapt challenging material to the viewpoint of my students. This allows me to build bridges of understanding that help more analytical people feel at home in creative disciplines or vice versa. If you are a gifted artist struggling with Math, or an aspiring scientist struggling with creative writing, I'm your man! I am also a very experienced writer and editor. In my free time I enjoy hiking, literature, ultimate Frisbee, international travel, soccer, baking, music, strategy games, and philosophical discussions. I have lived in Africa, Western Europe, and Russia and visited over a dozen countries. Please note that due to the many different subjects I have studied, the list of classes above is not complete. If you have tutoring needs for a very specific subject, I may well have taken a course in that area. Feel free to reach out with questions!

Frequently Asked Questions

True understanding comes from connecting concepts to real-world applications and working through problems step-by-step. Rather than memorizing definitions, students benefit from exploring the "why" behind concepts—for example, understanding why chemical reactions happen instead of just memorizing equations. Tutors help bridge this gap by using experiments, visual models, and practical examples to reveal how abstract ideas work in reality. When you understand the underlying principles, everything from genetics to physics becomes more logical and stays with you longer.

Lab work isn't just about following steps—it's about developing scientific thinking. Tutors help students understand experimental design, how to form hypotheses, interpret data, and communicate findings clearly in lab reports. This includes learning how to troubleshoot when experiments don't go as planned, which is a crucial real-world skill. Strong lab skills also strengthen understanding of the theory behind what you're observing, creating a powerful feedback loop between hands-on work and conceptual learning.

These skills require both conceptual understanding and procedural fluency—you need to know *why* conversions work and *how* to execute them accurately. Many students try to memorize conversion factors without grasping the underlying logic, making these problems feel arbitrary. Tutors break down the reasoning step-by-step, showing how dimensional analysis makes conversions intuitive, and how mass and charge conservation make equation balancing logical rather than guesswork. Once the "why" clicks, the mechanics become much easier.

Many high school science concepts are invisible—molecules are too small to see, forces can't be directly observed, and cell structures require microscopes. Tutors use diagrams, models, animations, and analogies to make these abstractions concrete. For example, thinking of molecular bonds like magnetic attractions or using free-body diagrams to show forces helps students develop mental models they can actually "see." This visualization skill is essential for problem-solving and helps students move beyond memorization to genuine comprehension.

Excellent science tutors combine subject expertise with the ability to explain concepts in multiple ways. They help students understand not just what happens, but why and how to think like a scientist. They're comfortable with lab work and experimental reasoning, can connect theory to real-world applications, and know how to break down challenging topics like molecular bonding or photosynthesis into understandable pieces. They also recognize each student learns differently—what works for visual learners may differ from what works for hands-on learners.

Yes—personalized tutoring is highly effective for students in existing classes because it directly targets your specific challenges. Whether you're struggling with particular units, working to improve test scores, or wanting to move from B's to A's, tutoring fills the gaps between classroom instruction and independent study. Tutors can preview upcoming topics to help you stay ahead, clarify concepts that weren't clear in class, and provide targeted practice on your weak areas. Many students see significant grade improvements once they understand concepts at a deeper level rather than just cramming before exams.

That depends on where you're starting and what you're working toward. Some students see immediate improvement in their understanding of specific topics after just a few sessions. For deeper progress—like moving from struggling to confident across an entire course—most students benefit from consistent tutoring over several weeks or months. The timeline accelerates when tutoring is paired with active practice and engagement with the material outside sessions. Many students find that once foundational concepts click, everything that builds on them becomes easier.
