I am currently a resident physician at Northwestern Hospital.

I am a first year medical student at the Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University. I have been a private tutor in the past in subjects such as math, biology, chemistry, and the SATs and every single one of my more than twenty students have shown significant improvement. I am a rising fourth-year medical student at Perelman SOM at the University of Pennsylvania currently taking time off from school. I am a Yale 2014 graduate (B.S. in Molecular Biophysics & Biochemistry). I spent my gap year doing wet lab research in a biochemistry lab at the main NIH campus in Bethesda, Maryland, My parents are both university math professors with a natural gift for teaching that I believe they passed on to me. I'm Sophie, and I'm a medical student with a passion for teaching. I want to work with patients, but my other goal is to go into academic medicine. I can't picture my present or future without education in it. I began tutoring for my little sister when both of us were in high school, helping her with math, English, science, and Spanish. In college, I started branching out to tutor friends. In 2019 I began volunteer tutoring for my college's chemistry department, and soon after, I took on a job at a local tutoring center teaching biology and chemistry (and occasionally physics and math) to high school students. I am currently the Master Electrician for the Bucks County Playhouse in New Hope, PA. I'm pursuing my MFA in movement-based ensemble theater with a focus on acrobatics. From this work I've cultivated a fiery curiosity that I strive to fuel within the high school- and college-aged students I coach, challenging them to develop not just aptitude but passion for their studies. I tutor various levels in Mandarin Chinese, Test Prep, Mathematics, and English, with a particular love for critical reading and writing of dramatic literature. Balancing process and structure is key for me so I make sure we start each session by setting goals for that session and then returning to them at the end, thereby ensuring the student can point to a measure of accomplishment within our time together. Aside from front handsprings, I absolutely love fantasy novels, science fiction and video games, particularly RPGs and survival horror. I'm always thinking about my next camping trip and when I'll make the time to get my motorcycle license.
