It means finding a student's strengths, celebrating every big and small moment of growth, and being a constant cheerleader and role model in a student's life. I come to tutoring with a BA in English and Cognitive Science from Vassar College and a history of teaching and working with students in a variety of environments. While in college, I was a volunteer tutor at a local elementary school working with ESL students and students with special needs. At the same time, I worked as a peer tutor at Vassar's Writing Center. I have also taught middle school science and math over the summer through Breakthrough Greater Boston, a program working to close the opportunity gap by supporting low income students and students of color. In the past three years, I have worked one-on-one with students in public schools as a special education aide at the elementary school and high school levels. Though I enjoy tutoring a range of subjects, I have a special love for teaching writing because it is so powerful for students to find their voices and express themselves. As a tutor, I am a calm and optimistic person who enjoys building deep relationships with my students. When I'm not teaching, I love playing ultimate frisbee, reading, playing board games, going for walks, and hanging out with my guinea pigs.

My biggest hobby is playing competitive ultimate frisbee (my team finished 11th in the country last year!). I also love reading - especially science fiction and fantasy - listening to podcasts, exploring Madison on foot or on a bike, and playing board games and card games.
