I believe one of the most important qualities a person can have is a continuing thirst for knowledge. This thirst isn't measured by grades on a test or how much trivia one can regurgitate or by IQ, but by the ability to think critically about the world - which begins with solid foundations in math, science, and language. Increasingly, as society continues exponentially towards automation and the global exchange of superfluous information, our roles will shift from simple workers to stewards of this growing library. In order to innovate for the future - to deconstruct arguments, reach rational conclusions and develop new ideas - students today will need the fundamental understanding that the giants before them developed.I'm grateful for all of the opportunities I had to enrich my own understanding and cement my passion for learning: patient, creative teachers, a welcoming environment, and people to challenge me. I hope to bring that very passion to every student I tutor, and to help them find ways to achieve whatever they set their minds to.

As a 2011 graduate of the Vanguard University education program, I have been teaching and tutoring experience in reading, writing, english, social sciences, and test prep.My favorite subjects to tutor are History and Writing. I get so excited about discovering the great stories of past events and people, and then passing that passion to my students. Whenever I teach essay-writing or creative writing, I can't wait to read all the creative ideas that my students surprise me with. There are so many simple tricks to writing amazing essays an stories that I love to share!Whenever I'm not teaching or planning fun activities and lessons, I can be found hiking, camping, watching one of my many favorite TV shows, practicing martial arts, attending comic conventions, traveling overseas, or reading comic books and novels.I believe every student can succeed. I love learning, and helping students to love it too. As a tutor I patiently use questioning strategies, while creating a safe learning learning environment for my students to take academic risks.

Additionally I am registered EMT and serve as a 911 service within Ohio. My previous experience in tutoring college academics and the NREMT has shown great success with over 200 students passing their needed class or registration.My teaching methodology is based on active recall, spaced repetition, as well as teaching within the testing scenario. We all learn in different ways.In life when we set clear goals and bring a ready mindset, our goals are ready to become a reality.My teaching style is based on honing in on the multiple intelligences.I implement a well structured learning hour.A lesson will consist of modeling for the student, student practice by motivating students and focusing on their strengths while gently helping them with their academic weaknesses.In the last five minutes of each session, I incorporate writing in a journal, so students can write down goals and ideas about their school day or even one new concept they have learned and mastered.Later on in time, students can read their journal and see how much they have accomplished!

Flailing around at something intimidating, where you don't know how to even start, can be discouraging and counterproductive. I try to provide enough scaffolding to make students feel safe exploring, and to try something else if the first approach doesn't work. I also try to teach the process of solving problems, which students can use for themselves as they build confidence.I have a Masters Degree in Chemistry from Cornell, where I was a teaching assistant for Introductory Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, and Physical Chemistry. While pursuing a PhD at RPI, I was a volunteer tutor for Chemistry and Chemical Engineering students.While working in industry, I taught my co-workers Statistics, Experiment Design, and Technical Writing. More recently, I have been a professional independent tutor, helping students with test prep, Math, Statistics, Chemistry, and Physics. I help teens and adults overcome fears (especially fear of Math) so they can learn more effectively and solve problems confidently.I teach test prep, Math, Statistics, Chemistry, and Physics. I especially like teaching Math, because I find it so satisfying to help students overcome the barriers related to thinking they "can't do Math." Whether my students want to use Math to excel in Science, or to get top scores on standardized tests, or just recognize when somebody is lying to them with Statistics, I like knowing I can help.

I'm a graduate student at UT Austin's LBJ School of Public Affairs, currently pursuing my master's degree in global policy studies. I have a BA in political science from Southwestern University. After graduation, I studied Mandarin Chinese for a year in Taiwan and then went backpacking through China.I can help you learn basic Mandarin Chinese (1 and 2), walk you through your political science studies, or bang out a killer essay. My two biggest priorities as a tutor are to teach you the *practical* skills you need to master your subject, and to give you a learning experience that is both fun and engaging.

My life has been spent in education, especially in the field of the medical sciences. I have been both the student and the professor for several years. Through these experiences I learned how to be a better student through teaching and a better teacher through listening to teachers. I hope to take the experiences, lessons, knowledge and passion I have gained over the years and pass it on to my students.
