I earned my Bachelors Degree from Florida International University, and I am currently working on my Masters Degree at Davenport University. I feel that my experiences of temporary teaching and tutoring have been both personally satisfying and beneficial to the children I worked with. I have enjoyed three periods of teaching. My first opportunity to teach was provided by the Miami-Dade County Public Schools, which was one of the necessary ways to get the best experience by teaching language arts, writing, reading comprehension, mathematics, science, geography, social studies or history. Moreover, I was able to work with various levels and a diversity of students. I enjoyed working with students from pre-K to fifth grades there and was interested in the teachers technique of teaching young children.I had the opportunity at my second position at One on One Learning, to instruct my own group of pupils based on their weak subjects in the comfort of their homes. I was allowed to devise my own teaching methods and I received great satisfaction when the children showed understanding and progress. My third experience was provided by Sylvan Learning Center when I worked as a tutor by focusing on standard core subjects such as mathematics and reading. I enjoyed the opportunity to teach older children as the lessons were more tightly structured so that a better understanding could be attained.I am now certain that it is the education of the elementary age group that I would like to specialize in as at this level I would be able to teach mathematics to the depth at which it becomes the most interesting and enlightening. I would hope to give my students a good foundation since I feel that nearly every profession uses some form of mathematics.

I just finished up a graduate program and moved to Boston, where I am currently interning and pondering the next step in my career. I am a self-proclaimed "audio nerd" and do freelance work within sound design and audio production. I really enjoy the intricacies of language and would be very interested in delving into a graduate/doctorate program in German Studies eventually, as I have a BA in German from Bates College. Right now, I am studying for the GRE and applying to other grad programs in that area.I have enjoyed working with and mentoring children and young adults all of my life. Throughout high school and college I spent my summers working at summer camps, with children aged 6-16. Most recently I worked at AYF Merrowvista in the summer of 2014, where I led teenagers on adventure trips throughout New England. I particularly enjoy mentoring and watching children grow into their identities as they grow up and would really relish the opportunity to help your child not only develop their skills as a student but grow into a personable and confident young adult.

Frequently Asked Questions
Sport psychology requires students to synthesize concepts from psychology, physiology, and sports science simultaneously—which can feel overwhelming in a classroom setting. Students often struggle with understanding how psychological principles apply to real athletic performance, translating theory into practical mental training strategies, and grasping the research methods used to study athlete behavior and cognition.
Personalized tutoring helps by allowing a tutor to identify exactly where your understanding breaks down and rebuild those foundations at your pace, using examples and applications relevant to your specific interests—whether that's performance anxiety, team dynamics, or motivation.
While general psychology explores broad principles of human behavior and cognition, sport psychology applies those principles specifically to athletic performance, coaching, and sports environments. This means you're not just learning theories—you're learning how to implement them in high-pressure, competitive contexts where small mental adjustments can have measurable performance outcomes.
This specialized focus requires tutors who understand both the psychological foundations and the athletic context. Personalized instruction allows a tutor to connect abstract concepts to concrete athletic scenarios, making the material more meaningful and applicable to your coursework and future career interests.
An effective sport psychology tutor should have a strong foundation in both psychology and sports science, understand current research in the field, and—importantly—be able to translate complex theories into relatable examples from real athletics. They should ask clarifying questions about your background, learning style, and specific goals, whether you're preparing for an exam, working on a research project, or trying to deepen your understanding for a career path.
Varsity Tutors connects you with tutors who have expertise in sport psychology and can tailor their approach to your needs. The best tutors can bridge the gap between textbook concepts and practical application, which is where most students struggle.
Performance anxiety and mental training are practical applications where personalized instruction really shines. Rather than a one-size-fits-all classroom approach, a tutor can work with you to understand the underlying psychological mechanisms (arousal regulation, attentional focus, self-efficacy) and then help you develop evidence-based strategies you can actually apply—whether you're an athlete yourself or studying these concepts academically.
A tutor can also help you critically evaluate research on mental training interventions, understand why certain techniques work for some athletes but not others, and develop a deeper grasp of individual differences in sport psychology—all of which deepens your learning and prepares you for advanced coursework or professional applications.
Sport psychology courses generally cover foundational topics like motivation and goal-setting, arousal and anxiety management, team dynamics and leadership, and athlete development across the lifespan. Students often find research methods and statistics challenging, particularly when learning to evaluate sport psychology studies or interpret findings about intervention effectiveness.
Additionally, many students struggle to integrate multiple concepts—for example, understanding how an athlete's personality, motivation level, and team environment interact to affect performance. Personalized tutoring addresses these integration challenges by breaking complex topics into manageable pieces and showing you how they connect, building your confidence as you progress from foundational concepts to more advanced applications.
Critical analysis of sport psychology research requires you to evaluate study design, consider alternative explanations for findings, understand limitations of the research, and assess how results apply to real-world athletic contexts. Many students can memorize studies but struggle to think critically about their validity and practical implications.
A tutor can work with you on specific skills like identifying confounding variables, evaluating sample sizes and athlete populations, and questioning whether laboratory findings translate to competitive sports settings. By regularly practicing analysis with a tutor's feedback, you'll develop stronger critical thinking that improves both your academic performance and your ability to evaluate new sport psychology research throughout your career.
With focused, personalized instruction, you can expect to develop a more cohesive understanding of how psychological principles directly impact athletic performance, feel more confident discussing sport psychology concepts and research, improve your grades on exams and papers through deeper comprehension, and build analytical skills that help you evaluate new studies and interventions critically.
Additionally, if you're an athlete yourself, personalized tutoring can help you understand and apply sport psychology principles to your own performance. Most students notice significant improvement in confidence and comprehension within a few weeks of consistent work, particularly when tutoring targets your specific knowledge gaps and learning style.
