Education should be alive. My object as a writing tutor is to help my clients harness the power of language and reason in their assignments. I aim to stimulate independent critical thought and to help my clients produce clear, organized, and well-informed writing. By supporting students in the writing process, I assist them in discovering and refining their own ideas, and then developing, organizing, and structuring them properly according to the assignment. I'm a creative writing student and a passionate reader. I look forward to helping students grow as writers and produce high-quality projects.

Elementary School Math Tutor • +10 Subjects

After graduating Sycamore High School in Cincinnati, OH in 2016, I am currently a sophomore at Lipscomb University. I am working towards getting my Bachelor's degree in social work, with plans to obtain a Master's in school counseling. For a year and a half, I spent two days a week with a middle school-aged student. I helped her complete homework and study for tests of various subjects, including math and Spanish. My favorite subject to tutor is definitely Spanish because it has always been my favorite subject in school. It was something that I always enjoyed, and I loved to learn more about the language. With tutoring, I like to give the student a chance to show me what he or she knows first, so I can get an idea of what level the student is working at. If they are struggling in specific areas, I will work closely with them until it seems like they are starting to understand the content. If they just need a push in the right direction, I will be there to do that, but if they need content retaught to them, then I will provide that help as well.I don't know if I have any "hobbies," per se, but I enjoy baking, playing board games with my family and friends. I also enjoy traveling and becoming familiar with new places. I was raised to love baseball, and it's on my bucket list to visit every MLB park in America!I would describe myself as patient, and laid-back. I am simply here to help students where they're struggling, I am not here to get frustrated when someone may not understand the material! I am hopeful and confident that anyone can learn, but we just all learn differently.

Frequently Asked Questions

Score improvement depends on your starting point and study effort, but most students see measurable gains within 4-8 weeks of consistent preparation. Students who work with tutors typically improve their weakest sections most significantly—often 3-5 points or more on individual subtests. The key is identifying which sections (Math Knowledge, Paragraph Comprehension, Mechanical Aptitude, etc.) are holding you back and targeting those areas with focused practice and strategy refinement.

The ASVAB has 9 subtests: Arithmetic Reasoning, Word Knowledge, Paragraph Comprehension, Mathematics Knowledge, Electronics Information, Auto and Shop Information, Mechanical Comprehension, Assembling Objects, and Verbal Expression. Most students find Arithmetic Reasoning and Mathematics Knowledge challenging because they require both speed and accuracy under time pressure. Paragraph Comprehension and Mechanical Comprehension also trip up many test-takers. A tutor can help you identify your specific weak areas through practice tests and develop targeted strategies for each section.

Timing is critical on the ASVAB because you have limited minutes per section. The most effective strategy is to practice full-length, timed practice tests repeatedly so you build speed without sacrificing accuracy. Tutors help you learn which question types to tackle first, when to skip difficult questions and return later, and how to avoid getting stuck on any single problem. With consistent timed practice, you'll develop an intuition for pace that lets you answer more questions correctly within the time limit.

Practice tests serve two critical purposes: they reveal which sections and question types give you trouble, and they build familiarity with the test format and time constraints so you're not caught off guard on test day. Taking multiple practice tests under real timing conditions helps you calibrate your pacing strategy and reduces test anxiety. Many students find that their practice test scores improve consistently as they review their mistakes and reinforce weak concepts—this is where a tutor's feedback on why you missed questions becomes invaluable.

Most students benefit from 4-12 weeks of preparation, depending on their starting score and target branch/job requirements. If you're scoring well already, 4-6 weeks of focused review may be enough. If you need to improve math or reading skills significantly, 8-12 weeks allows time to build foundational knowledge alongside test-specific strategy. A tutor can assess your baseline with a practice test and create a realistic timeline tailored to your goals and study schedule.

Test anxiety often stems from unfamiliarity with the format and uncertainty about whether you're prepared. The best antidote is repeated exposure: taking full-length practice tests until the format feels routine removes a major source of anxiety. Working with a tutor also helps because you get personalized feedback showing exactly what you can do well, which builds confidence. Additionally, tutors can teach you test-day strategies—like deep breathing, positive self-talk, and time management tactics—that give you concrete tools to stay calm under pressure.

For math (Arithmetic Reasoning and Mathematics Knowledge), the strategy is to solve problems quickly without a calculator by recognizing common question patterns and using shortcuts. For reading (Word Knowledge and Paragraph Comprehension), you need strong vocabulary and the ability to extract key information fast. A tutor can teach you section-specific techniques: for math, recognizing when to estimate or work backwards; for reading, how to skim strategically and identify what each question is really asking. Practice with instant feedback on why answers are right or wrong accelerates mastery of these strategies.
