I was never a straight A student, in fact, I struggled to get B's. It was never a problem with the content I was learning but the context in which that material was presented. After learning about the many different learning profiles that exist in the classroom I realized that students like myself were being left out to dry. I decided three years into my first college experience that I wanted to become an educator. Transferring to Wright State University and enrolling in their Teacher Preparation program is undoubtedly the best decision I have ever made. This upcoming fall I will be working in the Dayton Public School district to help students who, like myself, who struggle with "playing school."Outside of teaching, I enjoy reading science-fiction and taking hikes at the many metro parks in the South Dayton area. I occasionally work at a locally owned running store on the weekends and even do some coaching in the fall and spring. I have spent most of my life in Dayton but also moved around a lot as my father was in the military. I hope to move and teach in Philadelphia some day in the future but for now, my focus is on revitalizing the school system in Dayton.

As a highly motivated, goal and success oriented tutor, I have a proven track record of providing excellent tools for everyone around me to overcome the challenges that they encounter when facing difficult situations. I will graduate from Baruch college with a bachelor's in Industrial and Organizational Psychology and have always received A's in all my mathematic courses. I am always positive and enthusiastic, and I love to share that with everyone. I have been a tutor for about 6 years now, in French and Mathematics. I have helped my students to build the necessary skills that they need to succeed. I show my students how to study effectively. For instance, Mathew who is a former student of mine did not like algebra at all. I showed him how easy it is with 3 effective rules to master in algebra. Read-Follow-Do. Now he is taking calculus and is doing well. My previous experience as a tutor and my daily life as a student has enabled me to develop not only specific skills to be the best tutor, but also to be patient and understanding. This is because I have lived the frustration of not understanding a subject myself. This pushes me to read and go find the help that I need. Living this myself makes me devoted and goal oriented, and motivates me to help my students even more. I want to get my PhD in I.O. in the future and develop more and better skills to be the best tutor that I can ever be.

My decision to pursue a teaching career is because I have a strong desire to make a difference in the lives of my students. I see teaching as the best way to do this. I also have a strong love for learning and as an educator, having this quality is essential if one is to instill a love for learning in his/her students. I am helping students reach their fullest potential. I am laying the foundation for lifelong learning and achievement and to me that is the greatest job of all.I have taught a wide variety of students in both early childhood and elementary grades in both public and private settings. I have also helped colleagues prepare for different standardized exams such as the GRE, PRAXIS and the New York State teacher examination. My experiences have taught me a lot about what are best practices and how best to implement these best practices. They have taught me the value of being patient and the importance of differentiated instruction.I have my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Pace University. I also have a Masters in Science in Childhood Education (1-6). In addition, I have a 15-Credit Post Masters in Early Childhood Education (Birth-2nd Grade). I am able to tutor reading (comprehension, phonics); writing (style, grammar); math (number operations, measurement, geometry, problem solving, and number sense); science (biology, health, physiology, astronomy; weather, earth science); and social studies (civic engagement, geography and history). My favorite subjects to tutor are reading, writing and math. As an educator I take the time to get to know my students and what really interests them. I believe this is essential to learning how to best teach the students I am teaching or tutoring. It is important to help make the content relatable and accessible. This means getting to know my students and their learning styles.Outside of academia I enjoy doing yoga, reading, traveling and spending time with family and friends.

I am a current undergraduate student pursuing my Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry and Nutrition. Additionally, I have completed Biology and Chemistry at both the Ordinary and Advanced Level as well as Spanish at the Ordinary level and so I mainly tutor Biology, Spanish and Chemistry. During my high school years, I often tutored and assisted my peers and younger sibling with whatever subjects they needed help with. Since I am fairly young, I believe that my tutoring style is more relatable to students younger or the same age as me. Personally, I love Biology and every time I learn something, I become more and more fascinated with how amazing nature is designed. I spend my downtime reading, playing the steelpan and cuddling with my dog.

Frequently Asked Questions
The most in-demand languages depend on your target platform. For iOS apps, you'll want to learn Swift, Apple's modern programming language. For Android development, Java and Kotlin are the primary choices, with Kotlin becoming increasingly popular due to its concise syntax. Many developers also learn cross-platform frameworks like React Native or Flutter, which allow you to build apps for both iOS and Android using a single codebase. A tutor can help you choose the right language based on your goals and then guide you through the fundamentals before moving to framework-specific development.
Building foundational skills in a programming language usually takes 2-3 months of consistent practice. However, becoming proficient enough to build functional apps typically requires 6-12 months of dedicated learning, depending on your starting point and how much time you dedicate to practice. The journey accelerates with personalized instruction, since a tutor can identify gaps in your understanding immediately and provide targeted explanations rather than having you struggle through confusing concepts alone. Advanced skills like app architecture, API integration, and performance optimization develop over additional months of real-world project experience.
In a classroom setting, instruction moves at an average pace that may leave some students behind on complex topics like asynchronous programming or API design patterns. Personalized tutoring lets you focus on exactly what you need—whether that's spending extra time on concepts that challenge you or accelerating through material you grasp quickly. A tutor can also provide real-time feedback on your code, explain why your app isn't working as expected, and show you professional best practices specific to your project. This targeted approach typically helps students build confidence faster and start creating functional apps sooner.
The best tutors combine current industry experience with the ability to explain complex concepts clearly. Look for someone who has shipped real apps and can discuss real-world challenges like debugging, testing, and managing app performance. They should be comfortable with the specific language or framework you're learning and able to review your actual code, not just teach theory. A great tutor also adapts to your learning style—whether you learn best by building projects, working through exercises, or asking lots of questions—and can help you understand not just how to write code, but why certain approaches are better than others.
New developers often struggle with asynchronous programming and understanding how mobile apps handle background tasks differently than desktop applications. Debugging can also be frustrating since errors sometimes occur only on specific devices or OS versions. Many beginners underestimate the importance of user interface design and usability testing, focusing too heavily on code and not enough on how users actually interact with their app. Common issues like managing app state, handling device permissions, and optimizing performance for older devices can also be confusing without guidance. A tutor can help you avoid these pitfalls by teaching best practices upfront and providing hands-on support when you encounter these challenges.
Yes, absolutely. While understanding fundamental programming concepts like variables, loops, and functions does help, many people successfully transition into mobile development from non-technical backgrounds or with minimal coding experience. The key is starting with foundational programming skills first—learning basic syntax and logic in a beginner-friendly language—before diving into mobile-specific frameworks. Personalized tutoring is especially valuable here, since a tutor can move at your pace, ensure you truly understand each building block before moving forward, and use examples relevant to app development to keep concepts concrete and motivating.
Start with simple projects that reinforce fundamental concepts: a to-do list app, a calculator, or a weather app that fetches data from an API. These teach you core skills like managing state, handling user input, and making network requests. As you progress, tackle more complex projects like a social media feed, a real-time chat app, or a game—these introduce challenges like managing complex data, authentication, and performance optimization. The best learning path combines guided projects with personal projects you're excited about. A tutor can suggest appropriate project ideas based on your current skill level, guide you through the trickier parts, and help you understand how to structure your code for a real-world application.
