I received a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education with a minor in Mathematics and I am obtaining my Master's in Educational Leadership. Throughout the years I have worked in the classroom as an elementary teacher and then obtained my certification in Middle School Mathematics which allowed me to work in my current profession as a middle school mathematics teacher. I have also been tutoring for over 10 years and I specialize in test preparation, organization, mathematics, and SAT/ACT Mathematics preparation. In my tutoring sessions I provide detailed instruction and consistently check for understanding. I break mathematics down into obtainable small lessons to allow for student success. In my spare time, I enjoy the outdoors, exercise, reading, baking and even advancing my own learning.

I am a high school history teacher who has also worked as a teaching assistant at one of the country's top 10 colleges. I've taught ACT/SAT prep for about 4 years to students at all ends of the academic spectrum: from those working with learning disabilities/accommodations & struggling with timing to those trying to achieve perfect scores. Although I always create individualized plans, I focus on teaching every student the most effective, step-by-step way to approach each question on each section of the test. Beyond test prep, I've taught/tutored just about every academic subject through the undergraduate level. I am a recent graduate of The Johns Hopkins University where I received a B.S. in Neuroscience and Visual Arts. Currently, I am studying for my Masters in Narrative Medicine at Columbia University. My academic credentials include a Bachelor of Mathematics degree from the University of Texas at Arlington and a Master of Aeronautical Engineering from Stanford University. I am retired from 40+ years of engineering. The last thirty years was working in the flight simulation industry. I had responsibility for doing mathematical modeling of many systems which kept my my math and science skills well exercised. The flight simulation experience also involved frequent use of computer languages such as Ada, C, C++ and less frequent use of other computer languages such as python and java. Tutoring was part of the engineering environment as new engineers were assigned to my group. I earned extra money during my college years tutoring. Though money is not the end objective since retirement, I enjoy tutoring to remain active and challenged. The interaction with students is invigorating. Tutoring gives me a sense of contributing to the well-being of others. It is offering up my skills to help others get a strong start on a career. My tutoring style is to explain principles and possibly do a sample problem, but then observe the student apply the principles to work a problem, gently nudging them in the right direction. I prefer to tutor math and physics, but will not shy away from computer languages and other science applications.

My main approach is to focus on mastery over work pace. I encourage my students to strive for perfection on the basic material, before moving to the hard stuff.
