My academic credentials include a Bachelor of Mathematics degree from the University of Texas at Arlington and a Master of Aeronautical Engineering from Stanford University. I am retired from 40+ years of engineering. The last thirty years was working in the flight simulation industry. I had responsibility for doing mathematical modeling of many systems which kept my my math and science skills well exercised. The flight simulation experience also involved frequent use of computer languages such as Ada, C, C++ and less frequent use of other computer languages such as python and java. Tutoring was part of the engineering environment as new engineers were assigned to my group. I earned extra money during my college years tutoring. Though money is not the end objective since retirement, I enjoy tutoring to remain active and challenged. The interaction with students is invigorating. Tutoring gives me a sense of contributing to the well-being of others. It is offering up my skills to help others get a strong start on a career. My tutoring style is to explain principles and possibly do a sample problem, but then observe the student apply the principles to work a problem, gently nudging them in the right direction. I prefer to tutor math and physics, but will not shy away from computer languages and other science applications.

I am a Senior at Worcester Polytechnic Institute studying Mechanical and Robotics Engineering. I am here to help with any Math, Science, Engineering or other tutoring needs. My main approach is to focus on mastery over work pace. I encourage my students to strive for perfection on the basic material, before moving to the hard stuff. That way you won't only "kinda know" two things, but truly understand the material. Outside of class I enjoy, hiking, playing the saxophone, cooking and building robots.

I hold a Master's degree from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and a Bachelor's degree from Johns Hopkins University. I tutored GED math for 3 years in college, so I have experience breaking down concepts for students with a variety of learning styles. I've also informally tutored other students in my math and science classes. My favorite part of working with students is seeing people's faces light up when they understand a tough concept. In my free time, I enjoy reading, walking, dancing, and listening to music.

I am a graduate of Duke University( undergrad) where I majored in Philosophy and minored in Theater Studies. During my summers in college, I worked with EducationUSA Nairobi, an advising center for Kenyan students who wish to pursue higher education in the US. When I worked for them, I tutored high school graduates on SAT stuff and also helped them write better personal statements. After graduating from Duke last year, I started tutoring high school students in my neighborhood. I mainly taught math subjects such as Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, Trigonometry, Geometry, Basic Math and Problem Solving but I'm well versed in Reading and Writing subjects as well. I'm vastly experienced and very patient with all my students. In my free time I enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking, kayaking etc.

Frequently Asked Questions
Students preparing for ISEE-Middle Level Mathematics often find word problems and quantitative reasoning the most challenging, especially when multiple steps or logical inference are required. Geometry concepts like spatial reasoning, angle relationships, and coordinate planes also trip up many test-takers. Additionally, students frequently struggle with the pacing demands of the math section—they have limited time to work through problems that require careful reading and calculation, which can lead to careless errors even when they understand the underlying concepts.
ISEE-Middle Level Mathematics questions emphasize reasoning and problem-solving over pure computation. Many questions present real-world scenarios or abstract logic puzzles that require students to translate words into mathematical expressions. The test also includes comparison questions where students must determine relationships between quantities without always calculating exact answers—a skill that differs significantly from traditional classroom assessments. Understanding these unique formats and practicing with authentic ISEE questions is essential for building confidence and speed.
Effective pacing on ISEE-Middle Level Mathematics involves quickly identifying easier problems to build momentum and confidence, then tackling harder ones strategically rather than spending excessive time on a single question. Many students benefit from skipping difficult problems initially, answering all accessible questions first, and returning to challenging ones if time permits. Tutors help students practice this approach through timed drills and full-length practice tests, teaching them to recognize which problem types they can solve quickly versus those requiring more thought, so they can allocate time wisely on test day.
Taking full-length, timed practice tests under realistic conditions is the best way to pinpoint specific weaknesses. After each test, analyze which topics (fractions, percentages, geometry, word problems) caused mistakes and whether errors stemmed from conceptual misunderstanding or careless mistakes under time pressure. Tutors use diagnostic assessments and practice test reviews to create a detailed picture of your strengths and gaps, then design targeted instruction that addresses exactly what you need to improve rather than reviewing material you've already mastered.
Test anxiety on ISEE-Middle Level Mathematics often manifests as rushing through problems, misreading questions, or freezing on unfamiliar problem types—all of which tank scores despite solid math ability. Building confidence through repeated exposure to authentic ISEE question formats, practicing under timed conditions, and developing a personal problem-solving routine helps reduce anxiety significantly. Tutors also teach breathing and focus techniques, emphasize that some questions are intentionally harder, and help students reframe mistakes as learning opportunities rather than failures.
Score improvement depends on your starting point and effort level, but students working with a tutor typically see meaningful gains within 8-12 weeks of consistent preparation. Students who begin with significant gaps in foundational skills may need longer to build conceptual understanding, while those with solid math ability often see rapid improvements by refining test-taking strategy and eliminating careless errors. The key is identifying your specific weaknesses early and targeting them systematically through practice, review, and strategy refinement.
An effective ISEE-Middle Level Mathematics tutor balances conceptual instruction with test-specific strategy training. They should diagnose exactly where you're losing points—whether through gaps in foundational skills, misunderstanding of ISEE question formats, or execution errors under time pressure—and tailor instruction accordingly. A strong tutor also teaches you to recognize problem patterns, develop efficient solution methods, and build the stamina and confidence needed for test day, rather than simply reviewing math topics in isolation.
Practice tests reveal not just what you know mathematically, but how you perform under the specific constraints of the ISEE—time limits, question formats, and the mental stamina required. They expose patterns in your mistakes (conceptual gaps versus careless errors), show you which strategies work for your learning style, and build the familiarity and confidence that reduce test-day anxiety. Taking multiple full-length practice tests throughout your preparation, analyzing results carefully, and adjusting your study plan based on what you learn is far more effective than drilling isolated topics.
