I am a rising Sophomore at Princeton University. I am majoring in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, most likely with a minor in Computer Science. During my Junior and Senior years of High School, I tutored a few students on a regular basis. I specialize in Math and Science. More specifically, my strongest subjects are Algebra 1/2/3, Geometry, Trigonometry and ACT Science. I have always found the maths and sciences to be both the most interesting subjects, but also the most applicable to real world problems - this is why I chose to major in what I did. Because I usually tutor in Math, I often tutor in the style of showing how to do a few problems step by step, and then having the student try a few more difficult problems, asking questions along the way. I do this because in my experience, this is the best way to learn and prepare for Math related exams. Outside of academics I play Viola, enjoy running and exercising to stay healthy, and listening to all kinds of music.

I have also taught a forensic science class in a brick and mortar school and through an all online school.I feel the best way to ensure a student's success is to encourage good communication between the student and the tutor and if applicable the parent. I believe in finding out what the students already know and working from there using as many different ways of teaching and explaining as possible. I want to work with the student's strengths and learning style to help the student progress as far as they are able.I have raised four children of my own so understand both sides of the student dynamics, as a parent and as a teacher/tutor. I have spent the last 25 years teaching special education in an inner city school district.Through the years, I have taught Freshman Literature as well as Sophomore and Junior Literature.I have taught everything from Shakespeare, The Crucible, and Two Trains Running by the late August Wilson.I have taught all the major essays such as narrative, descriptive, and persuasive essays. When I analyze your essay, I take both a holistic and a line by line approach.Currently, I am teaching a reading program that incorporates all these different approaches to writing.Needless to say, my favorite subjects to tutor are writing and literature.I am a hands-on teacher. I am going to take where you are in your skill and move you forward. I have a very positive approach to teaching. I come to tutoring with a BA in English and Cognitive Science from Vassar College and a history of teaching and working with students in a variety of environments. I worked for years at an inclusion camp, supporting students with and without special needs in academic and social activities. While in college, I was a volunteer tutor at a local elementary school working with ESL students and students with special needs. At the same time, I worked as a peer tutor at Vassar's Writing Center. I have also taught middle school science and math over the summer through Breakthrough Greater Boston, a program working to close the opportunity gap by supporting low income students and students of color. In the past three years, I have worked one-on-one with students in public schools as a special education aide at the elementary school and high school levels. Though I enjoy tutoring a range of subjects, I have a special love for teaching writing because it is so powerful for students to find their voices and express themselves. As a tutor, I am a calm and optimistic person who enjoys building deep relationships with my students. When I'm not teaching, I love playing ultimate frisbee, reading, playing board games, going for walks, and hanging out with my guinea pigs.
