As a writer and English professor, helping people tap into the power of language is my passion. I have tutored students of all levels throughout my career, from high school students hoping to improve their essay writing skills to PhD candidates working on dissertations. In my own academic journey, I studied creative writing. I love bringing the sense of fun and freedom, along with many of the techniques and practices I learned in creative writing classrooms into my work with students.

I have a holistic view in terms of tutoring and teaching. All students learn in different ways such as visually, kinetically, auditorily, and other ways. I am committed to finding the best way to help my student learn the material even if it means going above and beyond the call of duty.Personally, I am a Psychology and Gender Studies double major graduating in May 2017. After that, I will be attending a masters program in mental health counseling and eventually going on to get my doctorate in clinical psychology. My skills include time management, test-taking skills, writing aid, reading comprehension, verbal and reading skills, and test preparation.

I am a graduate of a school in northwest Pennsylvania with a degree in Biochemistry & Piano Performance and plan on attending Medical School in the near future. In my four years there, I was selected by the department chairs to be the designated tutor for Mathematics (Precalculus to Calculus 3), Organic and General Chemistry, Biology (Cellular, Molecular, Developmental, and Genetics), and Physics, each for minimum of one year. The reason I agreed to tutor again and again each year they approached me is because I simply loved it. It is hard to describe the wonderful feeling of seeing a student you helped master the material in front of you and run through problems like they're nothing. My favorite question since childhood has been "why?". I was never a fan of just memorizing facts, because not only do you not really understand the material, but you are likely to forget it. That principle has transitioned over to my tutoring style. We start from the most basic, simplest core of the concept. Once we understand that, we slowly work our way up until you understand even the most difficult concepts..soon you're able to tell me the reason for every variable in the Schrdinger equation. Sometimes my students also develop a passion for knowing why and I love it. I'm not a tutor automaton though; my other hobbies/passions include piano, weight lifting, classical music (and concerts), composition, and environmental activism. In addition to tutoring, I've spent time in my institution as the head of research regarding nuclear import receptors via the genetic engineering of yeast to express the human AR receptor and the transformation and construction of plasmids.

I am a proud graduate of Grambling State University in Grambling, LA. I received my Bachelors Degree in Computer Science. I have always loved working with children. I was a Bible Study teacher and coordinator for over 25 years. At one point in my career, I took a break from my technology career to pursue a career in education. I successfully completed several classes at Touro University in California. I started working as a substitute teacher in 2000. I taught students from elementary to high school. I received so much positive compliments from the staff until one day I was offered a position as a high school Math teacher. I taught Algebra I and Geometry for about 3 years until I became a single parent. Unfortunately, I had to leave teaching and go back into technology to support myself and my three children. Now that my children are grown, I am looking into going back into education in my spare time. I am starting out by tutoring. I also have accepted a position to teach children 6-12 years old (reading) in China online. I also plan to go back to school to pursue degree in education. I have always loved working with students and have often been told that this is my calling/gift.

AP Spanish Language & Culture Tutor • +12 Subjects

Since I was born and raised in a Latin American Country, I am well positioned to teach both the culture and the language. I consider this to be a great advantage, as immersing students in the most fascinating aspects of Hispanic culture can stimulate their motivation and interest in learning Spanish. It is extremely important to me to encourage students to learn and understand the importance of cultural diversity. As a Spanish teacher, I understand the relevance of the Spanish language as the second most spoken language in the U.S. I am concerned about creating a comfortable atmosphere where the learning process can be natural and dynamic and where students can feel they can achieve their goals. I have a positive attitude and I am tremendously engaged and passionate about my career. I design my lessons with flexibility of students' needs, expectations, and learning styles.I have a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and Humanities as well as a Master's degree in Higher Education with an emphasis in Philosophy from one on the most prestigious universities in Colombia. My outstanding academic accomplishments, which include an undergraduate GPA of 3.7, graduate GPA of 4.0, a merit scholarship, a perfect scoring thesis, and a Maxime Cum Laude academic honor, make me suitable to provide solid instruction for all students. I have taught and tutored the Spanish language at both secondary and college level students for more than six years. Moreover, I have experience teaching other subjects such as Modern and Contemporary Philosophy and Latin American Literature. Furthermore, I worked as a philosophy researcher for the Colciencias Institute, the most important research center in Colombia. Growing, I was lucky enough to learn to take immense pride in my academics. My grandma is a retired math professor and my mom double majored in English and math and went onto law school where she met my dad. When it came to the classroom (and on the athletic field), my dad only asked for my best effort while my mom always wanted me to bring home the A and the win (thankfully no matter what I brought home she still loved me because I was not the most gifted athlete). My experiences with my parents' academic philosophies led me to develop one of my own: commit to the process, do your best, and earn the grade.During my undergrad years at the University of Florida, I earned my degree in Business Administration with an outside concentration in Sports Management and minored in Entrepreneurship. Outside of the classroom, I was a student manager for the Florida Gator baseball team that won two SEC titles and made two trips to the College World Series in my 4 years with the team. When not helping others excel in the classroom, I can be found enjoying football, baseball, and basketball, working on my terrible golf game, trying new recipes in the kitchen, and enjoying beautiful South Florida with friends and family.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Mississippi Bar Exam covers multiple substantive law areas, but candidates frequently struggle most with the Multistate Performance Test (MPT) components and time-intensive essay sections. Real property, civil procedure, and contracts tend to challenge many test-takers because they require both deep conceptual understanding and quick application under pressure. Additionally, Mississippi-specific law and procedure rules can trip up candidates who focus solely on model answers or national bar prep materials. Personalized tutoring helps you identify your specific weak areas early and build targeted strategies rather than reviewing material uniformly.

Standard bar prep courses follow a set curriculum delivered to thousands of students simultaneously, which means you move at the course's pace regardless of your individual needs. Personalized 1-on-1 instruction lets you focus intensively on the exact topics causing you trouble, whether that's mastering fact patterns, improving your essay writing speed, or understanding Mississippi-specific procedural rules. A tutor can also adapt teaching methods to how you learn best—some people need visual flowcharts for procedure, others benefit from practice problems with detailed feedback. This targeted approach typically leads to more efficient study time and stronger performance on test day.

Look for tutors who have recent bar exam experience, ideally with direct knowledge of Mississippi's specific rules and procedures. They should be able to diagnose exactly where you're losing points—whether it's issue spotting, rule application, or time management—and create a focused study plan rather than reviewing everything generically. Strong tutors also understand the difference between knowing the law and being able to write about it quickly under exam conditions, and they use practice essays with detailed feedback to build both content mastery and writing efficiency. Experience helping candidates improve their weakest areas is more valuable than simply knowing all the material.

Most bar candidates study for 2-3 months after law school graduation, though the timeline varies based on your starting point and how much time you can dedicate weekly. If you're using a standard bar prep course, adding personalized tutoring sessions (typically 5-10 hours per week) can accelerate progress by helping you eliminate gaps more quickly and spend less time on material you've already mastered. Some candidates benefit from starting tutoring earlier if they're struggling with foundational concepts, while others work with a tutor primarily during the final 4-6 weeks to polish essays and refine performance test strategy. A tutor can help you create a realistic timeline based on your specific needs.

Yes—in fact, tutoring is particularly valuable after a bar exam attempt because you now have concrete data about what didn't work. You know which essay topics gave you the lowest scores, which performance test sections you rushed through, or which procedure rules tripped you up. A tutor can analyze your specific weak points from that attempt and build a targeted retake plan rather than repeating generic bar prep. Many candidates who struggled on a first attempt improve significantly with focused tutoring because they're no longer learning from scratch—they're refining specific skills and addressing known gaps, which typically requires far less time than initial preparation.

Effective essay practice goes beyond just writing answers—you need timed practice under realistic conditions followed by detailed feedback that explains exactly what you missed and why. Many candidates write essays without checking their work against model answers, missing the chance to learn from their mistakes. With personalized tutoring, a tutor reviews your essays for completeness of issue spotting, accuracy of rule statements, quality of fact analysis, and whether you're spending time proportionally on high-value issues. They can also help you develop systems for organizing your thoughts quickly, spotting red flag fact patterns, and writing concisely under pressure—skills that generic model answers can't teach. Regular practice essays with expert feedback typically shows marked improvement within 2-3 weeks.

Results depend on where you're starting, but candidates who work with a tutor typically see measurable improvement in their weakest areas within 3-4 weeks. You might improve from scoring essays poorly due to missed issues to catching most testable issues, or from rushing through performance tests to completing them with time for review. Many candidates report increased confidence managing the exam's time pressure and clearer strategies for tackling unfamiliar fact patterns. Rather than a single score guarantee, expect concrete improvements in specific skills—better issue spotting, more organized analysis, faster recall of Mississippi-specific rules, or improved performance test timing—that compound into stronger overall performance on test day.
