I have recently graduated from the Burnett Honors College at the University of Central Florida with a Bachelors degree in Biomedical Sciences. This upcoming year I am going to the Institute of Human Nutrition at Columbia University to get an MS in Nutrition and Metabolism.I have been a tutor for college students for 2 years at my university, teaching Organic Chemistry 1 and General Chemistry. I've also helped high school students with college admission essays, and with kindergartners in the Junior Achievement program.I enjoy working with children and finding creative ways for them to learn the material and to try to inspire a desire to learn by making learning fun for them. I also really enjoy teaching general chemistry, because I find the material fascinating. When I tutor a student, I don't just give them the answers, but rather I guide them to the answers. It is important that a student learns how to find the answers themselves so they do not become dependent on outside sources.

I am currently a student at the University of Missouri Kansas City as a part of their 6 year direct medical program. Medicine is my passion, and I'm thrilled that we are able to interview patients in the hospital and learn from them very early on in the process. The best teachers I've ever had have been more than just adults. They were passionate about the material they taught, and that passion was carried over to me. That is the main thing I hope to show students. A passion that will help them understand the material better. One of my favorite parts of tutoring is getting to know the students' learning style and how they think. The best part is that I have just recently taken all the subjects I have listed to tutor in. The information is fresh in my mind, so I can approach the content from many different angles to help the student understand the material.Outside of school, I spend a lot of my time at Buffalo Wild Wings, hands down the best wings I have ever eaten. Consequently, I also spend a lot of my time exercising - usually swimming or weightlifting.

"You got a dream... You gotta protect it. People can't do somethin' themselves, they wanna tell you you can't do it. If you want somethin', go get it. Period." -The Pursuit of Happyness (2006)As a 140+ time author, hip-hop artist, poet, spoken word performer and content creator - if there is anything that I know about dreams, I would like to tell you that taking your own path isn't the easiest feat in the world.Society teaches us that we should have the picketed fence, the perfect family and the college degree for the spacious cubicle twenty-five miles away from where you live. Honestly, that is not everyone's vision. Some of us do not desire to be average. Some of us do not desire to settle for a life of mediocrity. Some of us do not desire to let the talents and ideas given to us from higher powers go to waste all because we wanted to please someone else by fitting ourselves into their boxes. The world is constantly evolving and us as a species, we must evolve with it.I believe that the freedom of expression, whether it be in the humanities, performing arts, activism or essential services will help us to evolve and become more accepting of our differences. I've had the pleasure to use my aptitude for writing and performing to touch souls and hearts from all walks of life.My passion to heal the traumas of those that came before me along with my own gives me the fuel that I need to continue being of service to others as a beacon of light to show you no matter what life throws at you, never let that stop you in your tracks!

I first began teaching during graduate school, when I took on a small group of piano students in my parents' living room. Over the course of four-and-and-half years, my voice and piano studio grew from three to forty students as young as five and as old as seventy. I also had the opportunity to teach Literature and Drama at a private elementary/middle school for one year. While worthwhile and fun, my experience in the classroom helped me realize that I prefer working with students in a private lesson setting, as it allows me to understand their personalities and preferred learning methods. One-on-one, I am also able to get to know the students in such a way that they feel comfortable asking questions and being themselves throughout the learning process. My formal education and training are in music, specifically classical singing, and I hold a B.A. in Music from Gettysburg College, and an M.M. in Vocal Performance from University of Wisconsin-Madison. While at Gettysburg College, I acted as a tutor for Music Theory I and II students. I also took a number of literature and creative writing courses, along with seven semesters of German and a semester studying Music and German in Vienna, Austria. My love of reading, writing, and languages stays with me, and I still enjoy writing short stories and blogs, reading fictional novels, and brushing up on my German and French skills via Duolingo. While my career is mainly focused in music and private teaching, I have a strong background in administrative and publicity work. As an organization nerd, I revel in arranging paperwork, color-coding calendars, and creating spreadsheets. In my free time, I enjoy cooking healthy meals, baking not so healthy treats, and spending time with friends and family.

I am a graduate of University of Nevada Las Vegas. I received my Masters of Education in Special Education. Since graduation, I have taught for the Clark County School district as a Cross Categorial Special Education Teacher, and as a Short and Long Term Substitute as of 2004. I also tutored during this time. While teaching for the school district as a Special Education teacher I spent time in the resource room and the general education settings, main streaming special needs students from the resource room to the general education room. And in the general education classroom I would co-teach with the general education teacher. This model of teaching is very beneficial for all students and teachers in the classroom. I teach and tutor a broad range of subjects, however the subject I enjoy teaching the most is math. Mostly due to it being a subject that is not gray, you either got the answer correct or you did not and it helps to teach logic. Over the years while tutoring and teaching I would design and implement lesson plans for several tutored students ranging from ages 8 to 18 if not designed and implemented lesson plans for five high school resource/general classroom math classes. I also would organize, track and implement study materials for all my students daily. My teaching philosophy is to be thorough, versatile and try multiple techniques so to help students find their own learning style. Each student is unique in the way they learn and I feel I need to tailor teaching strategies and techniques to the students needs. When I'm not teaching I spend my time caring for my family if not enjoying the things that interest me such as health and travel. Or one of the many hobbies I have like, writing, reading, art and cooking.

I earned a Bachelor’s of Science from Dominican College in Blauvelt, NY. I currently hold a Pennsylvania Elementary Education Teaching License. I have 7 years of teaching experience, and 10+ years of experience working with children of all ages. For the past 6 years I have been a Pre-Kindergarten teacher in Pittsburgh. My vast experience of working with children has provided me with the needed skills to help students grow academically. I have worked with students of many ability levels, including those with specific learning needs. As a teacher and tutor it is important for me to understand how the student learns and to introduce them to a variety of ways of learning so they are able to reach their full academic potential. My patient personality has proved beneficial while working with young students. All students learn at their own pace and I believe it is important for any teacher to respect that pace.My favorite elementary subjects to tutor are phonics, reading, and writing. Since I was little I have loved reading and I encourage my students to allow themselves to time to read every chance they get.My philosophy on education is student-centered with a focus on the teacher and student forming a cooperative relationship in order to find the best learning method for the student. Each student learns differently and it is important to me as an educator to find the best method of learning for every student I encounter. While not teaching or tutoring, I love spending time with my 10 month old son and husband! Exploring new things in Pittsburgh is always something I enjoy doing. Reading is one of my favorite hobbies, along with DIY projects for our new house we bought in June!

Frequently Asked Questions

The RD exam covers a broad range of nutrition science, and most candidates find certain areas more difficult than others. Medical nutrition therapy, biochemistry, and calculations tend to be frequent stumbling blocks because they require both conceptual understanding and practical application. Additionally, staying current with evidence-based practice guidelines and interpreting research studies can be challenging since the exam emphasizes real-world, research-supported recommendations. A personalized tutoring approach helps identify your specific weak spots and builds targeted strategies for mastery.

Group study and classroom learning follow a one-size-fits-all pace, which means you might move too quickly through concepts you haven't mastered or spend time on topics you already know well. Personalized 1-on-1 instruction allows tutors to assess your current knowledge, identify gaps, and focus exclusively on areas where you need support. Tutors can also tailor explanations to your learning style—whether you learn best through visual aids, practice problems, or detailed discussions—and adjust pacing based on your progress, making study time far more efficient.

The best RD exam tutors combine current nutrition credentials, exam expertise, and strong teaching skills. Look for tutors who are registered Dietitian Nutritionists (RDNs) with recent exam-passing experience and familiarity with the current Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) content outline and question formats. They should also demonstrate the ability to explain complex concepts clearly, ask diagnostic questions to understand your learning needs, and provide structured feedback on practice exams. Varsity Tutors connects you with expert tutors who meet these standards and specialize in RD exam preparation.

Most candidates benefit from 3-6 months of structured preparation, though timing depends on your background, exam readiness, and how intensively you study. Someone with a strong foundation in nutrition science may need less time, while those returning to studying after a gap or addressing specific weak areas might benefit from longer preparation. Working with a tutor can accelerate progress by helping you study more strategically—focusing on high-yield topics, practicing exam-style questions, and building confidence in areas of weakness—rather than reviewing material broadly.

Personalized tutoring focuses on measurable progress, including improving scores on practice exams, mastering difficult content areas, and building test-taking confidence and speed. Many students see noticeable improvement in their ability to apply nutrition knowledge to case studies and clinical scenarios—a key component of the RD exam. Beyond the exam itself, this focused preparation deepens your understanding of evidence-based practice, positioning you for success not just on test day but in your career as a registered dietitian.

The RD exam tests knowledge across multiple domains—food and nutrition, medical nutrition therapy, business management, and research—which can feel overwhelming without a strategic approach. A tutor helps you develop a study roadmap that breaks content into manageable chunks, prioritizes high-yield topics based on exam weight, and uses spaced repetition and practice testing to strengthen retention. This structured approach prevents cramming, builds confidence incrementally, and ensures you're not just memorizing facts but developing the clinical reasoning skills the exam assesses.

Yes—the RD exam is a computer-based test with multiple-choice questions and case-based questions that require applying nutrition knowledge to real patient scenarios. Familiarity with the CDR's official practice exam and question formats is essential, as is understanding how to manage time during the exam. Expert tutors are familiar with these specific formats and can help you practice with authentic exam-style questions, develop time-management strategies, and learn how to approach complex case studies systematically. This targeted practice significantly improves both accuracy and confidence on exam day.
