I have recently graduated from the Burnett Honors College at the University of Central Florida with a Bachelors degree in Biomedical Sciences. This upcoming year I am going to the Institute of Human Nutrition at Columbia University to get an MS in Nutrition and Metabolism.I have been a tutor for college students for 2 years at my university, teaching Organic Chemistry 1 and General Chemistry. I've also helped high school students with college admission essays, and with kindergartners in the Junior Achievement program.I enjoy working with children and finding creative ways for them to learn the material and to try to inspire a desire to learn by making learning fun for them. I also really enjoy teaching general chemistry, because I find the material fascinating. When I tutor a student, I don't just give them the answers, but rather I guide them to the answers. It is important that a student learns how to find the answers themselves so they do not become dependent on outside sources.

I am currently a student at the University of Missouri Kansas City as a part of their 6 year direct medical program. Medicine is my passion, and I'm thrilled that we are able to interview patients in the hospital and learn from them very early on in the process.The best teachers I've ever had have been more than just adults. They were passionate about the material they taught, and that passion was carried over to me. That is the main thing I hope to show students. A passion that will help them understand the material better.One of my favorite parts of tutoring is getting to know the students' learning style and how they think. The best part is that I have just recently taken all the subjects I have listed to tutor in. The world is constantly evolving and us as a species, we must evolve with it.I believe that the freedom of expression, whether it be in the humanities, performing arts, activism or essential services will help us to evolve and become more accepting of our differences. Over the course of four-and-and-half years, my voice and piano studio grew from three to forty students as young as five and as old as seventy. I also had the opportunity to teach Literature and Drama at a private elementary/middle school for one year. While worthwhile and fun, my experience in the classroom helped me realize that I prefer working with students in a private lesson setting, as it allows me to understand their personalities and preferred learning methods. One-on-one, I am also able to get to know the students in such a way that they feel comfortable asking questions and being themselves throughout the learning process.My formal education and training are in music, specifically classical singing, and I hold a B.A. in Music from Gettysburg College, and an M.M. in Vocal Performance from University of Wisconsin-Madison. While at Gettysburg College, I acted as a tutor for Music Theory I and II students. I also took a number of literature and creative writing courses, along with seven semesters of German and a semester studying Music and German in Vienna, Austria. My love of reading, writing, and languages stays with me, and I still enjoy writing short stories and blogs, reading fictional novels, and brushing up on my German and French skills via Duolingo.While my career is mainly focused in music and private teaching, I have a strong background in administrative and publicity work. While teaching for the school district as a Special Education teacher I spent time in the resource room and the general education settings, main streaming special needs students from the resource room to the general education room. And in the general education classroom I would co-teach with the general education teacher. This model of teaching is very beneficial for all students and teachers in the classroom. I teach and tutor a broad range of subjects, however the subject I enjoy teaching the most is math. Mostly due to it being a subject that is not gray, you either got the answer correct or you did not and it helps to teach logic. Over the years while tutoring and teaching I would design and implement lesson plans for several tutored students ranging from ages 8 to 18 if not designed and implemented lesson plans for five high school resource/general classroom math classes. I also would organize, track and implement study materials for all my students daily. My teaching philosophy is to be thorough, versatile and try multiple techniques so to help students find their own learning style. Each student is unique in the way they learn and I feel I need to tailor teaching strategies and techniques to the students needs. When I'm not teaching I spend my time caring for my family if not enjoying the things that interest me such as health and travel. My vast experience of working with children has provided me with the needed skills to help students grow academically. I have worked with students of many ability levels, including those with specific learning needs. As a teacher and tutor it is important for me to understand how the student learns and to introduce them to a variety of ways of learning so they are able to reach their full academic potential. My patient personality has proved beneficial while working with young students.
