Humanities and STEM not only coexist, but work together often in life. While STEM provides the foundation for the future, humanities contributes to how it is used to advance humanity as a whole. The world is a combination of all of this and it is my passion to understand the world. Other than just about education and information, I love teaching other people about stuff. My tutoring career formally began six years ago--since then, I have been gradually developing my own personalized collection of tips and tools for effective learning in a large range of disciplines.My journey began in high school as a tutor for a handful of middle school students struggling with mathematics. The private sessions instilled within me an appreciation for the power of conceptual connections. I found that each individual student's network of knowledge was vastly different, and so the connections they drew in order to arrive at solutions differed as well. It became my goal and pleasure to guide these students along their own intellectual pathways towards a better understanding.During my undergraduate career at the University of Texas at Dallas, I continued to fortify this skill. Employed by the on-campus Student Success Center as both a Peer Tutor and Supplemental Instruction Leader, I led sessions for advanced engineering mathematics, statics and dynamics, mechanics of materials, physics, and calculus. Through these programs, I was introduced to new methods for helping students attain their own understanding of course materials with only minimal guidance from myself. During that program, 5 student-athletes from Duke and 5 from Stanford went to one of 4 places to ethically volunteer/run sports camps. I was selected from a pool of applicants to go to rural Cusco, Peru, where we built a greenhouse, renovated a tree nursery, and paved a trail to a viewpoint to promote environmental conservation and rural tourism in Cusco. Under the guidance of the rural Peruvian community, I was able to both utilize the Spanish I knew and learn conversational Spanish and a little bit of Quechua, the local language. After returning from Peru, I applied and was accepted to be an Ambassador for the ACE program at Duke.My strong suits for teaching include Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Spanish, and Math through Calculus.

I very much enjoy teaching and tutoring and seeing and helping others learn, grow, and develop. I realize that a good tutor/teacher is one who not only understands the subject, but can communicate it effectively, as well. My priority/goal is to help the student learn, and there are no "dumb" questions. (Anything is askable.) I also work to make it a pleasant, personable experience.

Hi! I'm a STEM student who loves making hard concepts click. I tutor all levels of Chemistry, Biology and SAT math, with two years of math tutoring experience and 1.5 years focused specifically on the SAT. I prepped pretty hard for the SAT myself, so I know exactly which problems are traps and which shortcuts actually work. I'm passionate about education and deeply committed to providing the highest levels of teaching excellence. A bit on my background: I am a Duke University graduate and recently completed my Masters in Advanced Math Education under the auspices of the NYC Teaching Fellows program. Ihave experience teaching various levels of math and understand how to convey concepts in practical and clear ways so students gain a real understanding of the material. My particular specialty is Math. My style of teaching--and my passion for the subject-- resulted in high test scores and the gratification of a lot of students.A passion for math is a contagious thing. My students learn not because they have to learn, but because they want to learn -- a huge difference.
