Hello! I am a pre-dental student at Vanderbilt University majoring in Human Organizational Development with a concentration in Health and Human Services. I am well versed in many science subjects (Biology and Chemistry, etc.), math, and Spanish. I tutor all ages and will tailor my methods based on any type of need.

I graduated from Vanderbilt University in 2014. I received my Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education and Child Studies. I graduated from Vanderbilt with teaching licensure for Pre-K through third grade in the state of Tennessee. I am originally from New York so, while I loved living in Nashville, I decided that I wanted to move back to New York to receive my Master's degree. I am currently attending Teachers College, Columbia University and I am in a dual Elementary Inclusive Education and Special Education program. I have been working with kids in varied settings such as in classrooms, tutoring groups, one-on-one, in camps, and more, since I was in high school. While I tutor a broad range of subjects and grades, I am most passionate about teaching Reading and Math at the Elementary level. Part of the reason I am drawn to the field of education is because teachers must be life-long learners. I am aim to foster a love of learning in my student. This, I believe, leads to intrinsic motivation. In my spare time I enjoy reading, traveling, cooking, and staying active.
I'm currently a senior at Vanderbilt double majoring in history and business, while also preparing for the LSAT exam. I've tutored several different subject areas, but I can make the most impact assisting students with history, reading, and writing. I believe that every student has the potential to achieve their goals, and that by helping others I can enhance my own education as well.
I'm a recent graduate from Vanderbilt University, where I obtained my Masters of Education in Learning and Design, and a Bachelors degree from Southwestern University in Education and English. As a young student I found tutors to be immensely helpful in achieving success, so I know how important finding the right fit can be. I have experience tutoring, teaching, and mentoring students from ages 13 and up- though most of my recent experience is with college students. My favorite subjects to tutor are English and History, because I believe those are subjects where it's easy to help students find themselves within the subject matter. My teaching philosophy can be summed up as meeting students where they are at: to me, the key to student success lies in connection. Connection to instructors, to the content material, and to their own identities.
I am here to help people find their own confidence and explore a world that excites them! I have a degree in mathematics from Vanderbilt University and have worked a number of years as an Actuary. I have extensive real world experience with Math and Statistics, as well as Algebra, Geometry, Calculus, and Trigonometry.
My name is Liza and I am a math tutor passionate about helping students learn and work through hard problems. I have a B.S. in Mathematics from the University of the South as well as a Master of Mechanical Engineering from Vanderbilt University. I have experience helping middle school and high school students in all levels of math as well as in ACT prep. I take pride in understanding how each student understands math so that I can adjust my teaching style to meet their individual needs.
I am a high school math teacher with a passion for demonstrating the practical use of math outside of the classroom. I pride myself in teaching critical thinking and decision making skills that cultivate a real world experience in my classroom to best prepare students for life after academia. I have an undergraduate and master's degree in engineering, and changed career paths into teaching because of my love for inspiring and mentoring kids. I am pursuing a graduate degree in education administration with the goal of becoming a principal so I can build stronger urban schools with better resources and implement instructional strategies geared towards disadvantaged youth.
I am a graduate of Vanderbilt University. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Neuroscience and minor in Art. I am currently a student at the University of Illinois at Chicago working towards a Master in Medical Physiology. Since graduation, I have worked remotely for my lab that studies child development and applying to medical school. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about psychology and biology. My previous work experiences have included working as a teacher assistant at a preschool, a residential mentor at a high school academic summer program, and volunteering teaching science lessons in elementary and middle school classrooms.
With over a decade of experience as a student and a personal understanding of learning challenges, I'm passionate about helping students succeed on their own terms. As someone with ADHD, I understand firsthand how to navigate the complexities of focus and time management, and I incorporate strategies that work for neurodivergent learners. This experience allows me to connect with students who face similar challenges, providing them with practical tools and encouragement to excel. I earned my Juris Doctor and LL.M in Entertainment, Art, and Sports Law from the University of Miami School of Law, and my Bachelor's degree in Human and Organizational Development from Vanderbilt University. While I tutor a variety of subjects, I specialize in English, History, and Law, and I particularly enjoy helping students sharpen their writing and critical thinking skills.
I am an undergraduate student at Vanderbilt University. I am working to earn a Bachelor of Science in mathematics with a minor in Art History. Ever since High School, I have had a passion for tutoring. I taught at a voluntary after school ACT program and tutored independently students across my county ranging from age five to sixteen. Growing up in a low socioeconomic area plagued with low standardized test scores I understood the power I possessed to give back to my community to those around me. Ever since I have been in love with tutoring and working with students to help better themselves and their intellectual growth. I have experience tutoring in most subjects but my main adoration has always been mathematics. I have encountered so many people who have a bitter taste in their mouth towards math due to their prior experiences. Whenever I am able to change their view towards math I am always ecstatic. I have witnessed the power education has to change someone's life and I want to pass on my knowledge to my students so they may pass it onto others one day themselves.
I am a passionate scientist, innovator and collaborator driven to help make learning news skills relatable and fun. I am a public health professional with a background in neuroscience, and I am looking forward to working with you to better understand different science, language, health and writing concepts.
I'm a sophomore at Vanderbilt working toward a major in neuroscience with minors in chemistry and psychology. I was born and raised in Nashville, so middle Tennessee is definitely home for me. My main area of focus for tutoring is ACT Prep; however, Im proficient in many maths and sciences as well as grammar mechanics. In high school I took many ACT Prep classes and tutors. Because of my familiarity with the test, I have high confidence in my ability to drastically elevate my student's ACT scores.Outside of academia I enjoy to play tennis (Brentwood High Tennis) and exercise in general, typically weightlifting. I can draw almost every character of Spongebob and wish I could tutor specifically in that. I have a passion for science and practically all branches of STEM fields, especially neuroscience and biology. As clich as it is, and as clich as saying "as clich as it is...", education is power and can transform every aspect of one's world. For that reason, I would love the opportunity to help catalyze your learning.
I am a sophomore at Vanderbilt University working toward a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education and Mathematics. I have been tutoring for three years, and I love working with kids and helping them find their confidence in school work. I tutor Calculus, Algebra, Math, and Middle School Math, and I can also help with ACT prep (I have a lot of tips and tricks that helped me!) My favorite subject to tutor is math! I love working through different problems and the feeling of satisfaction when figuring out a tricky problem! I love teaching others tricks to complete math problems. I am passionate about teaching because I want to help others find an appreciation for learning, and I feel this comes when students feel confident in their abilities to complete schoolwork. When I begin teaching upon graduation, I want to work to end the mental health stigma and make sure that all of my students feel comfortable in my classroom. I believe that school should emphasize learning over memorization, and I do not want my class to add a significant amount of stress to students' lives. As a tutor, I hope to help kids decrease their stress levels by being able to complete work in an efficient way with me. Outside of academia, I love dancing, lifting, reading, watching Netflix, and spending time with friends.
I have enjoyed tutoring students for over 40 years. I remember my first student was the 7 grade daughter of the college librarian where I work at as an undergraduate at the University of North Alabama. I tutored her in math. I tutored numerous nursing students in chemistry while at graduate school at Vanderbilt University in Nashville where I received my PhD in 1985. I tutored students in science and math during my career as an industrial water treatment chemist. Upon retiring, I decided to continue tutoring part time as it still continues to bring me so much joy to help others suceed in their academic pursuits. I am the chemistry tutor at the tutor center at our local community college.
I am an enthusiastic and detail-oriented English and test prep tutor with a strong academic background in communications.
I am a rising junior at Vanderbilt University studying chemical engineering and mathematics. Throughout high school, I tutored both individuals and groups in a variety of subjects including algebra and physics. At Vanderbilt, I've had the opportunity to teach at local Nashville elementary and middle schools as part of Vanderbilt Student Volunteers for Science. I am passionate about tutoring math and science, and even though these subjects are often considered "dry," the right teaching style can spark any student's interest. When it comes to standardized test preparation, I've found that knowing the intricacies of a test can improve a student's score just as much as knowing the subject material can. Different students learn in different ways but that kind of personal attention is difficult to provide in a classroom. With one on one tutoring sessions, any student can excel, even in the subjects he or she has the most trouble in. When I tutor a student, my first goal is to figure out the best way to teach this individual, as no single style can suit everybody. In my free time, I enjoy playing volleyball, watching football and soccer, exercising, and reading about modern science and new technology.
I am a certified Special Education teacher and Behavior Therapist. I enjoy seeing my students have fun learning, which I believe is key to academic success!A little bit about me. . . I am originally from Ridgewood, New Jersey, attended Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, PA and then moved to Nashville to pursue my M.Ed at Vanderbilt University. Nashville has become my home over the past 4 years and I absolutely love the energy of the city and have made wonderful friends and connections here.My upbeat personality, years of experience working with children and strong organizational skills make me a strong tutor. Furthermore, my background in psychology and Special Education allow me to differentiate instruction, decrease anxiety, and employ positive behavior supports to ensure that the students I work with are successful in all realms of their studies. When I am not working, I enjoy taking my dog for walks, attending shows and making jewelry.
I received a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Engineering with a minor concentration in Math from Vanderbilt University in 2013. During this time, I tutored other students in math classes that I was taking myself. My ability to take other interests and find ways to relate them to the subjects that I tutor is something that I pride myself on. I tutor all sorts of math (algebra, geometry, trigonometry, calculus, etc.), computer science (Java, C++, C#), and Spanish. I enjoy music, sports and a nice cup of coffee in addition to providing my clients with my expertise.
To provide individualized and thorough tutoring that caters to my students' needs and leads them to achieving their goals.
I grew up in Los Angeles and moved to Nashville to attend Vanderbilt University, where I am currently a sophomore pursuing a bachelor of arts degree in Medicine, Health, and Society. Being a student, Ive understood the frustration of not knowing what to do or who to turn to in the moment I dont understand something. This feeling can be very disheartening, but having the right person to guide you can make all the difference. For struggling students, I want to be that person to help them reach their full potential. In high school, I tutored people (mostly high school students like myself at the time) within the community, and it was personally rewarding every time I saw a student gain confidence in their studies.I believe that learning should be enjoyable, comfortable, and productive for everyone. Because every person learns differently, it is important to decide what learning style suits each student best and to establish an environment where the student is comfortable to actively engage and ask for any help they need. Therefore, my teaching style is rather flexible, accommodating, and goal-oriented.I tutor many subjects ranging from English, math, Spanish, social sciences/humanities and test prep. I enjoy tutoring subjects within social sciences because I find them the most interesting to discuss, as well as test prep because it is very straightforward to teach. Outside of school and work, Im interested in art, music, fashion, photography and volunteering.
I am an engineering student at Vanderbilt and am currently taking a gap year! I love ideas and helping others. My teaching philosophy is to:- understand where the student is- understand why they are there- work with them to change their understanding- support them in their practice (there is no substitute for homework!)I am all about the application and integration of ideas into the way you see the world.Real learning! Sincere understanding! In particular, I am a Fantastic ACT tutor.Overall: the questions are easy. time is the enemy. get enough reps to efficiently complete the test and score high!- Reading section: the answers are all in the text. you just have to find them within the allotted time- Science section: the challenge is to understand the situation presented. the questions are easy- Math: learn what the questions are. learn how to complete them the quick way- English: understand grammar rules and how to apply them- Writing: find a sincere interest in the prompt and don't stop writing
I am a sophomore at Vanderbilt University studying Applied Mathematics and Economics, with a strong passion for helping students build confidence in math. As a Course Assistant for calculus, I work closely with students to break down complex concepts into clear, manageable steps and create an environment where they feel comfortable asking questions. I focus on building a strong foundation while also helping students develop problem-solving strategies they can apply independently. Having worked with students at different levels, I understand that everyone learns differently, and I tailor my approach to fit each student's needs. My goal is not only to help students improve their grades, but also to help them feel more confident and capable in math.
I have a PhD in Russian from Columbia University, and 31 years of university-level teaching experience. Now that I'm a Professor Emeritus, I've became an art educator and language tutor. I've tutored people who were native speakers of French, Spanish, German, and Hungarian, among European languages; and of Japanese, Korean, and Chinese, among Asian languages. And, actually, tutoring for SAT Prep and helping people improve their grades in high school English is not so different from that. When I do that kind of tutoring, I emphasize features of the very complicated English verb system such as colloquial phrasal verbs and their more formal equivalents ("to go back"/"to return").Of course, every student is different, and each teaching situation is different, so I bring to each session a prepared lesson that both reviews the previous lesson and works on new problems and ideas.
I graduated from Vanderbilt University with a double major in Biology and English. While tutoring younger students and working as a teaching assistant at Vanderbilt I discovered my love of teaching. I truly enjoy helping students learn about subjects and topics that interest me. I believe all learning starts from building a strong conceptual basis and I love finding different ways to help students understand topics that they are struggling with. I would love to continue sharing my enthusiasm and knowledge with students!
I am a senior at Vanderbilt University that is majoring in Child Development and Spanish and Portuguese. I have a large breadth of knowledge in Statistics, psychology, as well as experience teaching and tutoring math and reading a classroom setting. I additionally am well-versed in the SAT1, and am particularly skilled at tutoring int he reading comprehension section of the exam. Finally, because of my fluency in both Spanish and Portuguese, I am also available for language instruction as well.
I am a student at Vanderbilt University triple-majoring in Biology, Anthropology, and Medicine, Health & Society, graduating Spring 2023. I conduct sea turtle comparative pathology research with global collaborators and have published journal articles as primary and secondary author. I have extensive experience studying and communicating science topics like Biology, Environmental Science, and Chemistry. I also have a passion for English and enjoy helping students at any stage of the writing process - whether they simply have a prompt or a full paper to edit!
As someone currently studying for the LSAT and preparing to go to graduate school, I can relate to the challenges of being a student. I graduated from Vanderbilt University in 2010 with a B.A. in Psychology and Communication Studies. I am extremely passionate about academics and learning; the value of each was inculcated into me at a very young age. I tutor a variety of subjects largely because I have so many areas of interests and have been privileged enough to pursue knowledge in those areas. I even enjoy tucking away "useless facts"...in fact, those very tidbits got me past the Jeopardy! Online Test and into the Contestant Audition! If I've learned one thing throughout my academic career, it's that everyone learns differently. In my opinion, a great tutor knows how to meet a student where they are in their work and findthe specific and best way to help them achieve their goals. I have honed this skill over many years of tutoring many different types of students. Additionally, with me, a student will havethe benefit of working with someone who has been on their side of the table. I was tutored in Math both when I was younger and in college, and currently have a tutor for the LSAT. I actuallylove being tutored, as I get the personalized attention that I need, as well as little tips and tricks that aren't necessarily taught to the larger class. I believe that having this experience as thepupil allows me to be an even more effective tutor. So, why do I tutor? As I mentioned above, I love knowledge. I love sharing knowledge. But most of all, I love helping students learn to love what they're doing. Frequently, when a student reaches the point with a tutor where they begin noticing that they are making progress, they begin really believing in their ability to do the work independently and they are more likely to be excited about their academics! Also, I know from experience that a good tutor is capable of helping a student through a specific subject or class; but, a great tutor can transform the way a student operates in all of their academic work and prepare them to be an even better student across the board. I strive for the latter as a tutor. So that you can have a better idea of who I am, I will tell you a few non-academic things about myself. First and foremost, I have an undying love for Star Wars that began and has beennurtured since I was eight. I own approximately 200 Expanded Universe books and comics, and far too much memorabilia. I also play professional ultimate frisbee. I've been playing sincecollege and they just formed women's pro teams this year, and yes, you read correctly, pro ultimate frisbee. In other words, I get paid (peanuts) to chase plastic. Other things I enjoy arereading a great mystery, watching Netflix, playing Xbox, riding horses, playing with my massive dog, and staying in shape!
I am a Ph.D. candidate in Theological Studies and a Fellow in Theology & Practice at Vanderbilt University, with a minor in Ethics & Society and a certificate in Women's & Gender Studies. I have a M.Div. and a certificate in Gender, Theology, and Ministry, and an A.M. in Comparative Literature and African-American Studies from Duke University. I recently moved to New York to write my dissertation, and am already wondering why I didn't move here sooner!I have tutored a variety of subjects and specialize in test preparation. Most recently, I took the GRE to get into my doctoral programs. I love tutoring as it give me an opportunity to be a teacher, coach, and cheerleader all at the same time. I love the one-on-one interaction and the opportunity to help students with both content and strategy. When I'm not tutoring, I enjoy exploring the city and watching TV. I am a Jeopardy fan! (It is my life goal to get on Jeopardy before Alex Trebek retires!) I am also an avid runner.
I am a senior at Vanderbilt University studying English (Creative Writing) and Quantitative Methods. I currently tutor a wide range of subjects from elementary school reading and writing to ACT prep to college-level English and literature and also offer studying and organizational skills within academic coaching.I began tutoring in high school and founded my high school's reading and writing center! Since then, I have worked as a mentor for social and emotional health issues, as well as academic skills. Please feel free to reach out to discuss any of this further!
A summa cum laude graduate of Vanderbilt University with degrees in biochemistry and architecture, I am a current graduate student at Columbia University in the City of New York. Tutoring since high school, I have worked with students ages 11-22 (from middle school through college) in subjects as varied as math, organizational skills, PRAXIS prep, and of course, biochemistry! Additionally, I am well-versed in GRE, SAT, ACT, and AP exam coaching. Outside of the classroom, I have and continue to work in biochemical laboratories, play viola in an orchestra, and cross-country hike. As a student of pedagogy, I adapt to each student's unique needs to deliver hands-on approaches that use real world examples and provide mastery in comprehension. I believe that knowledge is power, but only in the application and advancement of knowledge can one find success.
I am currently a senior at Vanderbilt University studying Mechanical Engineering with minors in both Mathematics and Financial Economics. I am an active leader of my sorority and outside of school I enjoy spending time with my friends, enjoying the outdoors, and soaking up everything Nashville has to offer before I graduate in May! After graduation, I will be moving to Washington D.C. to do technology consulting for Deloitte in their Federal practice. I am originally from the San Francisco Bay Area and love to travel to see other parts of the US and the world!I believe that I would be a great tutor due to my drive to succeed, my desire to see others succeed, and my ability to work well with a diverse group of people. I have had experience tutoring elementary school students in simple mathematics and want to expand upon this experience. I take pride in my academics and hope to see others succeed and enjoy learning as I have.
I am a freshman at Vanderbilt University studying biochemistry and involved in analytical chemistry research. Despite my studies being very science oriented, I also enjoy studying English and the humanities. I'd be happy to tutor you in any of these areas!
I recently retired from 39 years of teaching nearly all subjects and levels of High School Math and Science (primarily Physics), along with some Theatre! During my time in the high school classroom, I taught Biology through AP, Chemistry, and Physics through AP 1 and AP C. I have also taught most subjects in high school Math, including Algebra 1 and 2, Geometry, Trigonometry, Precalculus, and AP Calculus AB. My favorite subjects to teach and tutor are Physics at any level and Algebra 2 or Precalculus.I have a Master's Degree in Molecular Biology from Vanderbilt University, and a Bachelor's Degree in Biology from Trinity College in Hartford, CT (my home state, though I have lived in Jacksonville, FL, for the past nearly 40 years). I have also taught as an adjunct professor at most of my local area's colleges and universities. My teaching and tutoring style center on student-based learning, allowing students to solve their own problems with "leading questions" and not providing a simple step-by-step solution. I am proud to say that, over the past 30-plus years, I have had many of my students go on to post-secondary education in Math, Physics, and Engineering. In my spare time, I enjoy theatre (directing and acting), singing, musical theatre, film, writing, reading, and travel. I have also taught Theatre and Musical Theatre, as well!
I am eager to help students thrive because I'm still very much a student myself, and will be for the foreseeable future. Though I enjoyed my time as an undergraduate student in Literature, and learned quite a bit during my time at Vanderbilt, there's still more work to be done. I am working towards a Master's degree, and will continue on from there.Though I am more than happy to help where needed anywhere from K-12, I am most experienced with test prep tutoring. The SAT and ACT tests can be an extremely stressful event for students, especially first time test-takers, so I do my best to go beyond the material covered by the tests and prepare students for the experience of taking the test itself, so that when the day comes, they are confident and prepared to tackle whatever challenges rise up before them. The way that I teach generally falls in line with the way that I learn best myself: discussion and collaborative explanation. When approaching difficult material, lecturing at a student leaves much to be desired. I aim to help them arrive at conclusions and realizations on their own by building on material with which they are already comfortable and confident, and working together towards a solution rather than giving the answer and expecting it to simply be memorized.Outside of academic pursuits, I enjoy many creatively-focused hobbies, primarily writing, acting, and even juggling! I am thankful for the opportunity in my time at Vanderbilt to combine all three into an annual show that not only brought smiles to the faces of a campus, but had the chance to reach out into the Nashville community and make a difference.
I received my BA in mathematics and economics from Vanderbilt University. Upon graduating, I was employed as a high school math teacher for four years in the states of Tennessee and Florida, while also tutoring in STEM and test prep for a Nashville-based company. I love getting to see students grow in confidence in mathematics, and create relevant scenarios that get them excited about tackling challenges. I believe education is the most important tool that a person can have, and I am currently pursuing my PhD in Economics at UNC Chapel Hill. When not studying furiously myself, I enjoy spending time outside, playing sports, and reading good books.
I graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a B.S. in Biology and Vanderbilt University with my M.D. and a Ph.D. in Pharmacology. After that, I completed a residency in pathology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and became board certified in anatomical and clinical pathology. For the next seven years, I did post-doctoral research at Vanderbilt University. While I enjoy research immensely, I also love to teach! For the last seven years, I have taught AP biology, honors biology, college preparatory biology, as well as anatomy & physiology, AP psychology, and ACT science prep. At the college level, I have taught anatomy & physiology and pathophysiology to nursing students. One of my very favorite things to do when I teach or tutor is to bring real-world meaning to whatever topic is being studied. How much easier it is to remember details when someone can explain why it's relevant--why it relates to YOU!I bring a positive attitude and patience to tutoring, and I work hard to assess how I can best help each client. We will discuss how you learn best, and we will tackle anxiety issues with proven strategies. We will work to turn an "I don't know if I can..." to an "I'm getting the hang of this!"In my free time, I enjoy making handmade cards and jewelry, reading, and spending time with family.
I started tutoring younger kids when I was a Freshman in high school. I was fairly well known at my dancing school for being a bit of a bookworm, and I was frequently seen helping girls with some tough math homework before I went into class. Eventually, parents started asking me to help their children on a more regular basis: coming to their homes every week to help with homework or prepare for a big test. This experience is what started my love of teaching. As a sophomore in high school, I began working as a camp counselor at my church and even stayed during the year to volunteer as a Sunday school teacher. Plenty of my students would run out of the classroom to show their parents the craft we made or tell them the story that we learned that week. One of my students even picked me out at a basketball game and screamed "Miss Kelly!" until I went over to hug him. I certainly miss my students, but I had to leave them as I ventured to Nashville for my college career. Now as a Chemical Engineering major, I am still asked by my friends to help them with their math and chemistry homework. I get calls from home asking if I can get on Skype to explain something, and I am always happy to oblige. I understand that my education is a privilege, and I want to do my part to help every person have the same opportunities that I had.
I am a graduate of one of the top universities in the nation, Vanderbilt in Nashville, TN. My degree is in Elementary Education with an academic specialization in Spanish. I also have my Masters in Middle School English from Lesley University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Originally from Kentucky, I gained my love for learning when I attended a reputable boarding school in the Northeast. There I learned about different cultures, high academic standards and how to be a good student. I also realized I wanted to teach. After college in the South, I came up to New York City and worked in a s school as a career coach for college students as well as adults. From there I was asked to come back to the boarding school to teach middle school English and high school Spanish. In addition to teaching, I was a dorm parent for senior girls. As I raised my own children, I took on the role of Head Dorm Parent, which was very rewarding. When my children were in school, I went back to teaching; this time in public education. I have spent the last 16 years as a certified English teacher and love every minute of it. This is what I was born to do.I believe every person can learn and improve - with support. My educational philosophy is that of the constructivist theory whereby the teacher begins with what the students already know and we go from there.I am nurturing, creative and a very good teacher/tutor. I can help students understand the material and buy into their work in order to get the most out of learning. I have a strong passion for teaching and learning.
