Hey y'all! My name is Claire, and I am so excited to teach online this year. For the last seven years, I taught all over the country (Charleston, SC, Nashville, TN, Portland, OR, and Vancouver, WA) and also earned a master's degree in education from Johns Hopkins University along the way.I hated math as a kid because my teachers always made me feel stupid in class for not understanding right away. I became a math teacher because I saw how many people get stuck in their education and careers when they run into trouble in math class. Working with me, you will understand how capable you are and will never have to feel embarrassed for learning. Come to class to ask questions and learn with me!

I am a graduate of John Carroll University where I received a BA in Early Childhood Education. Since graduation I have realized how strong my passion is for education and I decided to attend Johns Hopkins University where I received a Master of Science in Education. I am in my fifth year of teaching and have taughtet everything from Kindergarten to Eighth Grade. My favorite part of working with students is seeing that "Ah-Ha!" moment. I love learning about my students as a whole so that I can make instruction as relevant as possible to them. In my free time I enjoy staying active by rowing, a sport I came to love in my early years of college. I have also served as an Academic Mentor to the John Carroll Rowing team.
I am a public school reading teacher in the elementary grades. I have a passion for educating young people and guiding them to academic success, either in or outside of the classroom. I have experience as a classroom teacher and a private tutor, in subjects that range from Reading and Writing to History and French. In my opinion, the path to obtaining a good education is formed by hard work, diligence, persistence, and an open mind. I work on a daily basis to instill these qualities in my students and tutees. I also believe that forming meaningful relationships with my students creates an environment in which learning is the goal. In my spare time, I enjoy running, golf, reading, cooking, and spending time with family and friends.
As a dedicated educator with a Doctorate in Bioengineering from the University of Maryland, I am super enthusiastic and motivated about all things science, especially biology and chemistry. I love teaching to inspire the next generation of scientists and ground-breakers in the field to bring us new advancements and achievements. My teaching philosophy emphasizes creating a supportive environment where students feel encouraged to engage deeply with challenging concepts. I prioritize understanding each student's unique learning style, allowing me to tailor my methods for maximum impact. My background in both tutoring and classroom instruction enables me to connect theoretical knowledge with real-world applications effectively. Beyond tutoring, I am passionate about exploring scientific literature and discussing emerging technologies, which not only enriches my own understanding but also inspires my students to cultivate their curiosity and love for science. Moreover, I love going to the gym, playing golf, and hiking when I am not tinkering around in the lab or visiting museums in the area.
I am a graduate of the Johns Hopkins University with a major in Behavioral Biology. I am seeking admission to MD/PhD programs so a lot of my time has been spent in the lab, from a computational neuroscience lab at Hopkins to a genome editing lab at Rice. That being said, I have extensive experience tutoring for the ACT (35) and MCAT (516), both privately and contractually. I aim to get students the score of their dreams. With a solid plan of action and dedication YOU can get there.
I have loved to learn since I was a child. Like a sponge, I cannot seem to soak up knowledge fast enough. After high school I attended Brigham Young University and majored in Business Management with an emphasis in Strategy. While at BYU I served in my class presidency and as a study body officer for the university as a whole. After BYU I earned a Master's degree in Health Care Management from Johns Hopkins University in Maryland, graduating at the top of my class.Following a successful undergraduate and graduate career, I have found that I still love to learn. I have also developed a love of seeing others learn and succeed. As a tutor this is my goal: to inspire and encourage others in their own educational pursuits. With previous tutoring experience at the collegiate level, I have developed techniques and strategies to help students perform their very best. Every student learns differently and I work to tailor the tutoring experience to their needs. I believe that every student can successful if we can find the right tools to assist them.I tutor in Accounting and other business subjects. I enjoy tutoring in business because it is something that I excel at and am passionate about. I love to understand how the business world works and gain insight into the corporate world.Outside of academia I enjoy reading and traveling. My favorite book is Les Miserables by Victor Hugo. During my undergraduate studies I completed two study abroads, one in Israel and the other at Oxford University in the United Kingdom.
I have a bachelors degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology with a second major in Psychology from Johns Hopkins University. I am currently in medical school.Science and math have been my passion since a young age. In high school, I tutored my peers and then started to work with elementary and middle school children in college through my student organizations. I love expanding my own knowledge and I hope I can show students that learning can be a fun experience!
As a Neuroscience major at Johns Hopkins University, I've had the opportunity to develop a deep understanding of complex scientific and mathematical conceptsknowledge I'm passionate about sharing with students through tutoring. I've worked extensively with students in both academic and mentorship roles, and I find the most rewarding part of tutoring is helping students grow their confidence and ability to tackle difficult problems on their own. I specialize in SAT and ACT test preparation, particularly in the Math and Science sections. I enjoy guiding students through problem-solving strategies and simplifying challenging concepts, whether it's interpreting data in a science passage or navigating tricky algebraic expressions. My background as a PILOT leader, supporting students in Calculus and Biology, has shaped a collaborative and encouraging teaching style. I aim to meet students where they are, identify their learning strengths, and help them build a foundation they can trust on test day and beyond. Outside of tutoring, I conduct research in a neurosurgical laboratory where I work with brain imaging and machine learning to better understand tumor pathology. I also serve my community as a volunteer in pediatric and trauma hospital departments and as a camp counselor and development coordinator for children impacted by cancer. These experiences have taught me patience, empathy, and the importance of individualized supportvalues I bring into every tutoring session. Whether I'm walking students through a math section or breaking down scientific reasoning questions, my goal is to empower them with the tools and mindset they need to succeed. I strive to make learning engaging, approachable, and personally meaningful for each student I work with.
Hi! My name is Kevin Joyce, and as someone who is well versed in standardized tests and rigorous course loads and who has taught others in the past, I believe I make the prime candidate for helping you get where you want to be when it comes to your SAT score. I took the SAT twice, my highest single score being 2310 (800 Writing, 800 Verbal, 710 Math), and my "superscore" being 2330 (800 Writing, 800 Verbal, 730 Math). I am a graduate of Johns Hopkins University, where I received a BA with a double major in Film and Media Studies and Writing, earning a 3.72 GPA. While in school, I consulted with friends numerous times on their assignments and gained an understanding of what it takes to distill complex concepts into easily comprehensible pieces. So now you've read my academic SparkNotes. As for my philosophy on standardized test-taking and teaching, I've always relished the challenge of standardized testing, to be honest. I think engendering that same sentiment in future test-takers can be key. As for my love of tutoring, I feel that teaching others to solve certain problems is in many ways more gratifying than coming up with a correct answer to a problem yourself. In a similar vein, while it may be clich (though just because something is said a lot doesn't mean it's trite), helping others come to understand a point of view they didn't hold before or aiding them in the development of a new skill is an incredibly satisfying experience. My hobbies and loves include watching sports (especially the NFL), playing sports (football, lacrosse, rugby, soccer, ultimate and running track are my favorites), watching movies, reading, and writing.
I recently graduated from Johns Hopkins University with a Bachelor's of Science in Neuroscience. As a prospective medical student, I have and will continue to spend a lot of time in the classroom, understanding what makes teaching and learning most effective. I work to integrate my studies into my tutoring, focusing on giving meaningful examples to help drive complex topics home and provide plenty of opportunities for repetition to increase retention. I have a few years of formal tutoring experience, primarily in middle school and high school math, though my focus and interests have shifted since then. Now, my expertise lies in neuroscience, MCAT prep, and all the relevant class material included in those specialties (biology, chemistry, organic chemistry, biochemistry, physics, etc). I've spent most of my education informally tutoring those around me. Whether it was a teacher's request to help explain a concept to my peers or taking the initiative to help out my peers with challenging subjects, I've had plenty of practice working with a variety of subjects and students. I hope to help students not only learn material but understand how they best learn and study, raising their confidence and comfortability inside and outside of the classroom.
My name is Christine and I am currently a senior at Johns Hopkins studying Biomedical Engineering. I have a lot of experience tutoring in math, physics, chemistry, and thermodynamics. I have also proof-read essays for college applications and english classes as well. Outside of school I like to cook, play basketball, and listen to music.
I am an undergraduate student at Johns Hopkins University and am currently pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering.I have an excellent academic history and the knowledge of how to succeed in the classroom. I have spent much of my scholastic years helping my peers to understand math concepts by clarifying them after the lesson. This has made me accustom to reframing concepts in order to make them more comprehendible. In addition to my educational qualifications, I am personable and can connect with my students. In elementary school I was diagnosed with dyslexia. With the help of my mother, a former teacher, as well as in school learning support, I was able to learn how to cope with my disability. This experience has provided me with familiarity with effective tutoring techniques. It also gives me patience and compassion for struggling students because I understand what it is like to be in their shoes.

*I really enjoy the one-on-one teaching experience, because I have found it rewarding to create a collaborative environment while working to make the student comfortable, confident, and inspired. I am passionate about inspiring students to want to learn in a supportive and caring environment. I am motivated to build up a student's confidence and help them to overcome anxiety! I also enjoy the challenge of stimulating bright, motivated students. I am an experienced tutor, having had many opportunities to work one-on-one with students in both a professional and an academic environment. As an undergraduate, I studied chemistry, biology, and mathematics and went on to receive a Ph.D. in mathematics and oceanography from Johns Hopkins University. Upon graduation, I taught as a tenure-track professor of mathematics at a small college in Boston. Several years ago, I moved back to the West Coast to be with family. Now I enjoy my dual career as an academic editor and tutor. My favorite aspect of teaching has always been working one-on-one with students. Other than tutoring, I really enjoy playing violin, hiking, swimming, and cycling.
I'm a recent graduate with honors from Johns Hopkins University with a Bachelor's Degree in East Asian Studies and a minor in Philosophy. I spent a semester abroad In Shanghai, China in my junior year, during which I was lucky enough to develop my spoken and written fluency and explore a beautiful and unique part of the world.I have been an academic tutor and chess teacher for over 6 years. I have loved teaching since I was quite young, and aspire to be a professor in the future. In my years as a tutor I've instructed Geometry, Algebra I and II, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, Chemistry, Creative Writing, the GRE, and most frequently SAT and ACT preparation.I developed a love for tutoring test preparation for two major reasons. First off, I'm a puzzle solver by nature and I genuinely find the tests fun! That sounds bizarre to most people, but I think one of my principal strengths as a tutor is the ability to instill this positive and optimistic attitude in my students as well. A good attitude helps to inspire confidence, which in turn yields tangibly improved test results.Secondly, my college application process was extremely stressful and difficult. I look back on the experience as unnecessarily frustrating and taxing when it should have been exciting. One of my primary missions as a tutor is to not only help prepare my students for their exams, but also to develop a personal relationship as a mentor throughout the college application process to ensure they stay focused, but also happy. In my free time I keep busy with a myriad of hobbies. I'm a 3 time national chess champion, avid poker player, semi-professional gamer, Rubik's cuber, singer and string musician, and stand up comedian. I also enjoy hiking, skiing, ultimate frisbee, and playing tennis. Above all else, though, I'm a gregarious extrovert with wonderful friends and love socializing and meeting new people.I look forward to working with you!

While most of my teaching experience is at the college level, I also enjoy working with high school students, whether in standard, honors, or AP- or IB-level courses.
I first became interested in teaching and tutoring when I was a high school student taking an abundance of AP courses. Though these courses successfully prepared me for my college education, I felt that I could have benefited from tutoring myself. When I entered college, I initially enrolled hoping to pursue a degree in social studies education. However, through my coursework and study, I began to focus more on history and chose to change my major to history and my minor to classics. Throughout this transition, I have never lost my interest in teaching and education. My Bachelor of Arts degree in history from Gustavus Adolphus College has instilled in me a love of learning, skills in critical thinking, composition, writing, editing and much more. These skills, though not the main focus of my major, became the core of understanding for me throughout my education. Upon completion of my degree in May of 2016, I chose to pursue a gap year of service working with Minnesota Reading Corps, a division of AmeriCorps, as an elementary literacy tutor. In this role, I gained training in tutoring and developed skills that have helped me to better understand how to reach students.Beginning in the Fall of 2017, I will be pursuing a masters degree in Museum Studies from John's Hopkins University's Advanced Academic Programs department. Through this degree, I hope one day to become a curator at a history museum. This role would allow me to utilize my love of both history and educating the public.

I am an experienced tutor specializing in history and social studies subjects, as well as SAT Math. I graduated from Johns Hopkins University in 2013 with a BA in European History and I have been tutoring for three years. In the past two years, I have privately tutored many high school students in the New York City area in a variety of subjects, including for AP classes and tests in US, European, and World History. I am passionate about history and geography and I enjoy sharing my enthusiasm for those subjects with my students. My favorite subject to tutor is European history, although I enjoy working in all social studies subjects. I also really enjoy math tutoring and I have experience tutoring it up to the SAT level. In addition to my private tutoring, I tutor elementary school students in an academic enrichment program run by the New York Public Library. I spent a year from 2014 to 2015 working full time as a tutoring fellow at a charter school in Massachusetts. My main responsibility was tutoring individual students to prepare them for the Math and ELA portions of the state standardized test. I strongly believe in the value of education, and I find that few things are more rewarding than helping a student learn and develop academically. Beyond tutoring, I am working on my own history teaching project and I enjoy reading and playing chess.
I am a graduate of Johns Hopkins University with a Bachelor of Science in biomedical engineering, and a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh with a Master's in bioengineering. Stemming from my strong childhood interest in biology, I have worked for years in research labs focused on neurology. Writing, editing, and publishing, both research papers as part of lab work and pieces intended for lay audiences, has deepened my appreciation for the importance of excellence in writing - and not just in science. My study of Teaching as Research enabled me to excel as a graduate-level teaching assistant, where I enjoyed one-on-one time with students to help them refine their drafts into carefully-crafted academic papers. I think it is important to understand, to impart upon students, that knowledge is not just about facts; it is about seeing how individual pieces of information fit into larger frameworks, how those frameworks repeat across different fields of study, and how systemic thinking underlies mastery of any subject. In my off time, I volunteer at the Maryland Zoo, and enjoy reading, writing, long walks, and disc golf.
I am a graduate of Skidmore College. I received my Bachelor of Arts degree, magna cum laude, in English with a minor in Art History. I also received departmental honors for my capstone paper.
