I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Astrophysics from Arizona State University. I absolutely love astronomy, math, and physics-the underlying fundamentals behind astrophysics. I have been tutoring these subjects since my junior year in high school (over 5 years!). In my last two semesters at ASU I taught astronomy labs to undergraduate students from all sorts of majors. The astronomy courses contained a significant amount of math which had to be taught as well. This helped me become a more effective tutor because it allowed me to expand my teaching experience. I believe you can never fully understand a subject until you can teach it so through tutoring, I am able to assist the student in learning the material while solidifying my own knowledge. The most important part of my lesson plan is to make learning enjoyable. A tutor must be able to quickly identify the learning style of the student so the lesson can be modified to their style. Apart from tutoring, my hobbies and interests include observing planets and galaxies with my 10" Meade telescope, playing soccer locally with family and friends, and going to the gym! It's a great way for me to stay healthy physically and mentally!

Being raised on a farm in Missouri, I've always had a strong interest in math and science. I especially liked the applied side of things. The "bean in a cup" experiment in elementary school grew into a hobby greenhouse as a teenager providing my family with vegetables for the table. It went on to grow into a full time family business which helped put me through college. The practical experience I got with all of this was invaluable. With more of a hands on approach, applied science and math allows you to take what you think you learned in class and see it in action in real life experiences. The experiences allow better integration of abstract concepts into reality, concreting what you know and leaving you with a desire to find out more.I attended college at Northwest Missouri State University and received a B.S. in ACS-accredited Chemistry in 2008. I have therefore had a lot of chemistry, including organic and p-chem as well as algebra, trig, geometry and multi-variate calculus. While I was a tutor for the Chemistry/Physics department (and asked to tutor College Lit and Bio labs) I actually had several classes in biology and agribusiness that led me to my graduate work at Arizona State. I am currently finishing up my PhD in Molecular and Cellular Biology with emphasis on microalgal cultivation. I have a wide array of interests and enjoy spending time outdoor hiking and mountain biking.Overall, I'd say I'm a natural born problem solver. I love solving problems, especially abstract ones requiring creativity and imagination. I think it is the challenge of pulling from all of your life experiences and knowledge to come up with a solution that works. I think the key for success is having enough patience to keep ones imagination at work long enough to come up with a solution. I believe every problem has a solution, sometimes many.'It is often said that men are ruled by their imaginations; but it would be truer to say they are governed by the weakness of their imaginations.'Walter Bagehot

After volunteering as a tutor in middle school, I quickly realized how rewarding it is to help someone of any age pursue their learning goals. Starting University High School in Tucson (go Penguins!), I soon sought out more opportunities to tutor. I became a B'nei Mitzvah tutor at my synagogue, and saw several students privately for help in math and reading. I graduated from University High School with Honors in 2016, and I currently am a student at Barrett, The Honors College at Arizona State University, pursuing concurrent degrees in Political Science and Russian. Social Studies subjects, as you might have guessed, are my favorite subjects to tutor; however, having extensive experience working with elementary and middle school students, I feel comfortable with math, reading, writing, and science at those levels. Additionally, after taking a large amount of AP's in high school, I am well versed in the requirements to score well on these tests. Tutoring is a means to foster the "independent learner" within every student, and through developing a participatory relationship with the student, I believe this can be accomplished in a cordial and respectful manner. Beyond academics, I love to hike or go for an early morning bike ride followed by a nice home cooked breakfast. I enjoy reading a variety of books, from histories to science fiction; singing (mostly in the shower); and when it's the season, strapping on my skis and heading to the nearest mountain.

I received my Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Arizona State University. I have tutored friends and family in mathematics and physical sciences. Additional, I have given interactive demonstrations to elementary students focused on the importance of building strong math and science skills. I also conducted study groups with classmates throughout my undergraduate studies. I am proficient in and enjoy tutoring many mathematical and physical science subjects; including algebra, trigonometry, calculus, chemistry, and physics. My hope is to spark the passion and appreciation for math and science in all those whom I tutor. Finding the relationship between the fundamental principles and real life applications is how I help to build a strong understanding of key concepts and a desire to learn more. These ideas continue into my hobbies and interests: I have a strong desire to learn more whether that involves reading a scientific publication or through my own research. I also enjoy the challenge of golf and chess, woodworking, and watching my three year old twin boys explore and learn.

I love the aspects of learning and teaching. Being able to help someone understand something is really rewarding. I'm currently pursuing my undergraduate degree in Biochemistry from Arizona State University as well as a minor in Spanish. I served a two-year mission in Peru for my church. It was there that I learned and grew to love the Spanish language. For this reason I tutor Spanish. I also tutor high school and middle school level math, such as geometry and algebra.I think that each person is unique with unique sets of strengths and weaknesses. I believe that the key to successful tutoring is explaining and teaching the material in a way that the student actually learns. To do so you have to know the student and how they understand things. I'm a quick thinker and dedicated so this helps me understand the strengths of a student to be able to use them to help learn.

I first began tutoring unofficially during my high school years, as many family and friends needed help with math, and I was one of the older kids in the group. I enjoyed helping them learn new concepts, and different ways to think about problems in order to get them to understand them better and succeed in their classes. Sometime during my college years I signed up with a tutoring company in which I was able to tutor online, which gave me more experience in dealing with different kinds of people that needed my help. Thanks to these experiences I believed I am well suited to teaching various levels of math to different customers.Outside of tutoring I still attend school. I am currently a masters student at ASU, and am usually around the campus doing school work or just hanging out with friends. When I have free time I enjoy playing basketball, going to the movies, and playing video games from time to time.I believe that as a tutor, I will be able to help you understand a concept, no matter how long it takes. Sometimes it just takes a little time a different method of thinking to get a point across, but in time the problem can be solved easily and with confidence.
