Even after many years of more formal education I haven't lost that spark and that ownership of my education yet! I love tutoring because it allows me to bring people into that same kind of ownership of their knowledge. Hi there! My name is Zach. I'm a PhD at Harvard studying German philosophy and classics (Greek and Latin). Next year, I will be starting law school to pursue my professional passion, tax law. I am deeply committed to the language and LSAT skills I've developed and I love to tutor students of all levels in these subjects. I can't imagine a life without teaching. My favorite part of teaching is helping students come to love -- or at least appreciate -- the details that make up complex subject matters. My favorite moment with any student is when the student realizes how fascinating a subject matter is after really mastering all of the "dry" details. When my students start internalizing the LSAT or languages I am teaching them, I know I am doing my job.I graduate summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from CUNY Macaulay Honors College in New York City, and started teaching undergraduate and graduate classes during my last year there. At Harvard, I have earned the Derek Bok Certificate for Excellence in Teaching three separate times. I have taught students as young as 14 and as old as 85.German: I studied abroad in Osnabrck, Lower Saxony and Berlin, where I earned my C2 certificate (near-native proficiency) in German. While in Germany, I took classes, taught in German, on Greek and Latin philology. I have taught beginning, intermediate, and advanced German at both regular and intensive paces at Harvard and CUNY.Greek and Latin: I am standing faculty at the Greek/Latin Institute, a famously intensive classical languages boot camp in New York City. I have taught students from all around the world and at all ages there. I have also taken all of the most advanced Greek and Latin coursework at Harvard.I studied comparative literature (French, Italian, and English) as an undergrad alongside my studies of classics. For my masters degree, I had to pass a three-part exam at Harvard on the history of German literature. My knowledge of literature is broad and deep!I earned a 174 on the LSAT (99th percentile).Ready to get to work and dive into the weeds? Want to know more about what working together would look like? I prioritize working to develop logical and generalizable ways to address questions and problems, as this makes it easier to know which strategy can be used to solve them. I also work with students to learn about learning itself -- to understand the ebb and flow of knowledge acquisition and to take challenge and failure in stride. I value a growth mindset stemming from both hard work and having fun!

I took the LSAT in September of 2014, and have been tutoring it ever since.I have a wide array of interests, and can tutor a number of different humanities subjects. However, my favorite subject to tutor is LSAT preparation. I feel like I built up a huge amount of personal knowledge and strategy in my own study process that I want to pass on to others. I recently graduated from Harvard University with a B.A. in Comparative Literature, as well as a secondary field in Gender Studies and a language citation in Arabic. I have tutored, taught classes, and facilitated workshops on subjects ranging from SAT prep to chemistry to spoken word poetry, and I especially enjoy working with middle school and high school students. I firmly believe that tutoring can and should be funeven SAT prep! Working with a student individually allows the two of us to team up to tackle the material using a range of strategies until we find an approach that works for this particular student. My favorite subjects to tutor include writing and editing, whether we're working on a research paper, a college application essay, or reviewing grammar; public speaking; SAT prep; and study skills and organization, because each of these areas boosts overall academic success and builds a student's self-confidence. In any subject, I focus on study skills, critical thinking, and independent concept reinforcement so that soon the student will no longer need me to excel. Some of my own favorite subjects to study include languages (I've studied Arabic, Spanish, Latin, and a sprinkling of Japanese), medieval history, and electrical engineering. When I'm not tutoring, I spend my time writing and performing spoken word poetry, riding my bike around Boston, and learning to cook.

A little bit about me: I grew up in Connecticut and attended prep schools there before going to College at Harvard where I earned a BA in Political Science. After working for a few years in management consulting, campaigning, and policy work, I went to the Yale School of Management where I earned my MBA. After business school, I worked in finance in NYC at a "bulge-bracket" firm before leaving to pursue entrepreneurial interests in the New York tech scene.Tutoring Background: In college, every weekend, I worked with high school students who were attending the top schools in the Boston area. The program focused on extra-academic enrichment primarily in the humanities and social sciences and was affiliated with Harvard's Department of African and African-American Studies. Upon graduation, I volunteered working with students in Watts (Los Angeles) to help them prepare college applications and personal essays. During this time, I also mentored students on preparing for interviews with top management consulting firms. Finally, during my time at Yale, I served as 2nd-year teaching assistant for the Competitive Strategy and State & Society core classes.
