I am a student attending Central Washington University, completing programs in Music Composition, Music Education, and Mathematics Education. I have two years of experience with reciprocal peer tutoring in the areas of Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, and Music. My interdisciplinary experiences help me work with students from diverse and unique academic backgrounds, and enable me to present material in a variety of different ways. Most importantly, I believe in fostering a love for learning.

I am a graduate of the Masters Program at Virginia Commonwealth University with my Master's in History. I also attended with Central Washington University, where I double majored in and graduated with Bachelor's degrees in History and Geography. Since graduation I have been searching for museum or archive work. I am a specialist in American and Military History. I am also knowledgeable in both World History and Geography, the latter of which I have my second Bachelor's in. I taught swim lessons to children for six years and that is the original basis for my tutoring knowledge. I will argue for in depth education in both my fields because the past and how we remember it matters and is part of the culture wars of today and where we are as a species and people determines so much of our lives.

As a dedicated educator with a Bachelor's in Elementary Education from Central Washington University, I am passionate about fostering a love for learning in my students. With over four years of classroom experience, including teaching fifth grade and providing small group instruction, I specialize in elementary subjects such as math, reading, and writing. My approach is centered on patience and adaptability; I tailor my methods to meet each student's unique needs, using manipulatives and relatable examples to enhance understanding. I believe that a strong connection with students is essential for effective learning, and I strive to create a supportive environment where they feel comfortable asking questions. Outside of teaching, I enjoy reading, watching sports and playing Pickleball.

With 13 years of dedicated teaching experience, I bring a wealth of knowledge and passion to tutoring in all aspects of English/Language Arts. Although I have a degree in English/Language Arts from Central Washington University, where my love for literature and language flourished, it is the years I spent in a classroom that taught me the most about connecting with students in a meaningful way. Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of guiding students 6th through 12th grade through the intricacies of English, helping them develop not only their academic skills but also a deep appreciation for the written word. I spent the majority of my career teaching in rural Alaska making content applicable to students' lives while still keeping learning fun. I am committed to creating engaging and supportive learning environments where students can thrive and achieve their goals. My role, whether as a teacher or tutor, has always been to guide students, develop their strengths and build the skills/tools to improve areas that challenge them.

I graduated from Central Washington University and am certified in Elementary Education, Bilingual Education and T.E.S.O.L. I substitute taught in public schools moving to the Dominican Republic where I have lived for the last 14 years. I have taught English in a girls' home, to young adults, and partnered with communities to teach kids in outreach programs. I used curriculum but also created many of my own lessons plans. I enjoy teaching young adults but my passion is teaching elementary students.

I earned my Bachelor of Science in Biomedical and Biological Sciences with a 3.96 GPA, and I am currently continuing my academic journey through advanced medical and graduate-level coursework. My education has given me a strong foundation not only in the life sciences but also in interdisciplinary fields that support a well-rounded approach to tutoring. With over seven years of tutoring experience, I've worked with students of all ages in a wide range of subjects, including AP and College level biology, chemistry, organic chemistry, biochemistry, genetics, anatomy & physiology, neuroscience, physics, algebra, geometry, precalculus, statistics, and executive functioning study skills. In addition to academic subjects, I have extensive experience guiding students through standardized testing and admissions processes. I've supported students preparing for the MCAT.

I enjoy helping students learn to love reading and writing. Over the years, I worked with middle school, high school and college students. My goal was to improve their skills in reading, writing, social studies, drama, English 101 and 100G and Shakespeare Comparative Film class, which was a Senior Ventures college class offered for senior citizens. In addition, I have given many gardening demonstrations and talks for garden clubs and libraries. For the last 30-plus years, I have worked and continue to do so professionally as an actor and singer. I am a cabaret singer with K. J. McElrath, working together as McElrath Cabaret musical duo. I've worked professionally for 30-plus years on stage, on camera and the radio. I am an endorsed teacher in grades 4-12 English, 4-12 English/Language Arts, 4-12 History and 4-12 Drama. I have earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theatre Arts: Performance and a Master of Arts degree in English from Central Washington University in Ellensburg, WA, as well as endorsements in Language Arts and History. Other education includes a Bachelor of Religious Education degree from Prairie Bible College in Three Hills, Alberta, Canada and coursework at the Summer Institute of Linguistics at Trinity Western University in Langley, British Columbia, Canada. I tutor in English, Language Arts, History, Drama, Reading, Creative Writing, Study Skills and Organization, among others. I especially love tutoring writing and literature because my students and I get exposed to new ideas and ways of thinking that open our minds to greater understanding and different possibilities for life. My philosophy of education is to give students some freedom of choice in how they learn, with guidance, to build strong engagement with learning. My tutoring style encourages my students to have a lifelong love of learning. Outside of teaching, I love to read all sorts of books, write creatively, sing and act in cabaret shows and plays, walk my Chihuahua and two cats, grow delicious tomatoes, draw, paint and experience with zest all the humor in my life.

I'm passionate about learning and teaching the history of our universe and how it all works. With 2 years of experience teaching a variety of ages, I'm excited to help out any students in need with whatever Math, Science, and Astronomy needs they may have.

My whole life I was rushed by teachers to move faster, and this taught me that students all learn at a variety of unique paces in very nuanced ways. I won't stop until the student understands the material. If I have to explain the content three or four different ways, then so be it, and I will go further if I must. My job as a public servant in education is to ensure the end-user understands and can succeed in the content area they struggle in, and I will work as hard as I possibly can until the latest hour to ensure this happens. 3. I am a positive individual. Life is not easy, it often throws us off. When I was in college, I struggled with a higher level O chem class. I thought there was no way I could pass it. However, I didn't let mistakes stop me. I learned from them, I applied myself, and I stayed optimistic. I got through this class with a higher grade than I ever expected. It was then I realized that the brain was capable of any kind of learning, and the key was staying positive enough to learn from your mistakes and keep going. This is resilience is a skill I seek to pass down to the next generation. 4. The last pillar of education for me is perspective. As an educator, it is not my job to tell a young mind how to think. It is my job to provide as objective a viewpoint as possible, provide the students the facts and best known practices as they are, and let students formulate their own decisions. I provide the perspective, the students use this to hone and sharpen their own self image and perception of the world and society around them. This is an integral aspect of critical thinking, and is core to my vision as an educator.
