Discipline has always been an important word and concept to me. I've always thought of how great a passion for learning can become when one applies themselves to practice and understanding. What is even greater is when one can find a friend or mentor that can help them achieve even more. I love to learn and I love to teach! If you're serious about reaching your goals, whatever they may be, I will support and encourage you as much as I can!

I am a math and science enthusiast that loves to help others become more comfortable with a subject that they do not feel confident in. I understand how difficult concepts may seem at first but more importantly how great it feels once those concepts finally click. My patience goes on for miles and miles so I will never be frustrated with the learning rate of an individual. I love a good challenge and see tutoring as a learning experience for both individuals involved. My interests outside of academics are reading both fiction and non-fiction works, hiking forests, trails, and mountains, kayaking rivers and lakes, bicycling the Great Allegheny Passage, jogging around the city of Pittsburgh, playing guitar and singing, and cooking delicious food.

After high school, I attended the Community College of Allegheny County and am soon transferring to the University of Pittsburgh to finish a degree in Statistics. I currently work as a self-taught computer programmer, and am using the same love of learning that gave me this job to help other students. In 2009, I began tutoring three students who were failing their Honors Chemistry class at the end of the first quarter. By the end of the year, two had B's and one had a C. The pride of that success has kept me tutoring for more than 7 years.Giving motivated students the assistance they need to succeed is my biggest passion.

For as long as I can remember, I've always loved math. Two years ago, I went back to school and began my journey towards becoming a Chemical Engineer. I have started out at Community College of Allegheny County and plan to finish my degree at the University of Pittsburgh. While at CCAC, I began to tutor students and developed a passion for it, particularly when it comes to mathematics. Exploring the language of mathematics can be incredibly fun, challenging and rewarding, this is something I always try to impart on anyone I may help. While I'm not studying you'll find me reading for pleasure or outdoors engaging in one of many activities.

Frequently Asked Questions

Varsity Tutors connects you with tutors who have direct experience with CCAC's curriculum, course structure, and academic culture. These tutors have successfully completed coursework at your institution, giving them insider knowledge of what professors expect and how to excel in CCAC classes. They understand the unique challenges students face and can provide guidance based on their own experience navigating the college.

Yes. While tutors who attended CCAC bring deep knowledge of their own field of study, many are qualified to teach across multiple subjects depending on their academic background and expertise. During the matching process, you'll be connected with a tutor whose qualifications align with your specific needs—whether that's help with general education requirements, major coursework, or test prep. You can discuss subject expertise directly with your matched tutor.

A tutor who graduated from CCAC understands the specific demands of your coursework and can share strategies that actually work within your institution's academic environment. They've taken the same exams, completed similar projects, and worked with CCAC's resources—so they know which study techniques are most effective. This familiarity helps them identify knowledge gaps quickly and provide relevant, practical guidance tailored to how CCAC teaches.

Absolutely. Tutors who attended CCAC often have direct experience with the transfer process and can help you build a strong academic foundation for your next institution. They understand which courses transfer effectively, how GPA and coursework are evaluated by four-year universities, and the academic rigor you'll need to maintain. This perspective makes them valuable guides as you plan your pathway beyond community college.

CCAC alumni tutors bring expertise across the full range of subjects offered at the college, including STEM fields, humanities, business, healthcare, and skilled trades. Many have advanced credentials or work experience beyond their CCAC degree, allowing them to teach with both academic and real-world perspective. When you're matched with a tutor, their background will be specifically suited to your course or subject area.

In a classroom, instruction must accommodate many learning styles and paces. With personalized 1-on-1 tutoring, a tutor can focus entirely on your specific struggles, learning style, and goals. Research on personalized instruction shows it significantly accelerates progress compared to group learning. Your tutor can slow down on difficult concepts, skip what you already know, and adapt their teaching method in real time—something impossible in a lecture hall.

Tell Varsity Tutors about your course, subject, and learning goals. We'll match you with a tutor whose CCAC background and expertise align with your needs. You can discuss your academic situation directly with your matched tutor to ensure they're the right fit. This personalized matching process helps you find someone who understands both your subject and your institution.
