My degree is in secondary mathematics. I have taught for 33 years and have a love of mathematics that I would like to share. I have taught several years of dual credit: Pre-Calculus, Statistics, M115, Calculus 1. I am honest, patient and willing to help students achieve their goals.

My passion for education began during my college years, when I accepted a tutoring position at a local elementary school. At the time, I did not fully understand how powerful academic support could be for students who needed encouragement, structure, and individualized attention. Working with children in low-performing schools near my college helped me realize that tutoring was much more than helping students complete assignments. It was about building confidence, creating meaningful connections, and helping young learners see that success was possible for them. That experience became a turning point in my life and helped shape my commitment to education. As I continued tutoring, I learned the importance of meeting students where they are academically and personally. Many students need more than repeated instruction; they need someone who can identify gaps in understanding, explain concepts differently, and celebrate progress along the way, Ed.D. Ed.S, MMNGT.
I am a graduate of Lesley University with my Master's Degree in Technology in Education and Georgia Southern University for my Bachelor's of Elementary Education. I started my college career as Music Education Major, but I quickly realized that my passion included teaching all subjects. I find myself dedicated to the education of each student, often pondering solutions for struggling students and challenges for students who are exceeding expectations well past the hours in the school day. Nothing gives me more pleasure than to see the proverbial light bulb being lit in a student's mind.
One of the most rewarding accomplishments is helping learners realize their full potential in life; especially when a student struggles academically, it’s a real victory to witness that moment when a student realizes positive self-growth. I have been rewarded with many of these occasions throughout my tenure as a secondary English classroom teacher. I have especially enjoyed teaching ACT preparation classes because students would often return after the semester and share their exciting news about meeting their score goals.Since I earned my Master’s in Education from Lesley University, I have developed a whole repertoire of strategies for delivering differentiated instruction that meets the individual needs of my students. A student-centered approach is imperative when working one-on-one with individuals. English, literature, and writing are the three areas that I have the most experience and fun teaching. When I am not in the classroom or tutoring, I am hiking in the bluffs of Wisconsin or chasing after my young son. I also enjoy reading historical fiction novels and traveling to historical sites.
I teach young children K-2. Due to COVID I am teaching online. I teach reading, writing, phonics, and math skills. I enjoy seeing students become stronger readers, writers, and mathematicians. I talk with students about strategies and tools they can use to strengthen their skills.I believe dialogue and conversation is important between students and myself to build a relationship that is based on trust, respect, and the joy to learn.I teach Everyday Math K-2. This includes: addition, subtraction, place value, problem solving, measurement and data, and 2-D and 3-D geometry.I teach Guided Reading which involves using leveled reading books for both narrative and informational texts. This also includes teaching reading strategies to students to strengthen their decoding and comprehension skills. Units of Study for Primary Writers from Teachers College in New York has been a program I have taught to help young students become stronger writers.I teach Wilson Fundations Phonics program K-2 which includes vocabulary and spelling.I am available to talk with families about the different ways I can support and teach their child.EducationFitchburg UniversityElementary educationLesley CollegeMasters of Education

I am currently an adjunct professor at a private college in Boston where I teach English - both Literature and Composition - as well as several courses in the Humanities, including Art History. In addition to my teaching responsibilities, I very much enjoy meeting with my students during office hours where I have the opportunity to work individually with anyone seeking extra help. During a typical meeting I spend as much time listening as instructing. My goal is to help a student gain greater understanding of the material but just as importantly to help build confidence through practice and instruction that is customized to meet a particular student's needs. I think the best tutoring session occurs when there is a give-and-take of questions, responses and recommended solutions: maintaining a dialogue is vital. I find it very rewarding when I observe one of my students improve in an area that was originally daunting, whether that involves revising ideas in a paper, mastering material for an upcoming exam, proofreading a final draft, or gaining the confidence to join in the next class discussion. My favorite areas are Writing, (anything from the fundamentals to research essays) Literature, Art History and Drama. In my spare time I enjoy reading short stories and novels, watching plays - live performances whenever possible - and rooting for the Red Sox!
I am a graduate of Columbia College where Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education. Additionally I received a Master in Education degree from Lesley University. I have been a teacher for 18 years. 14 of those years, I devoted my time in the classroom as a full time teacher. The most recent 4 years I transitioned to being a Math Interventionist. Most recently as a Math Interventionist, I was able to work 1:1 or in a small group with students. Also, I was able to tailor lessons to meet their learning needs and help them build and enhance their number sense/fluency. Many students were afraid to struggle or make mistakes. I help to build their confidence and reassured them that mathematicians will make mistake and struggle from time to time. My job as an educator has always been to motivate students to become independent thinkers and confident learners. These are the qualities they need to have in order to be successful individuals in society.

I believe everyone is capable of learning and growth. I love helping students achieve their goals and tap into their inner strength. My background is in education, and I enjoy tutoring on a wide variety of subjects. I have experience teaching all ages of children and adults and have a special passion for writing and languages.
I have a master's degree in special education from Lesley University. After I graduated in 2000, I joined as a middle school special education teacher in Maryland. While instructing my students, I realized they didn't have foundational skills in math, reading, and writing. It was too hard for them, and I felt demoralized that I could not help them. To make a real difference, I began teaching elementary school students. My focus was always on targeted instruction on skill development. I emphasized small group/differentiated instruction where students received almost individualized instruction. I was most interested in English Language Arts because if a student cannot read, then they cannot do well in any other subject. Later, I became a literacy coach and eventually a reading specialist. During that time, I mentored teachers and provided classroom support, but I always worked with students in small groups or one one-on-one throughout my career which expanded for about twenty years. During this time, I worked mostly with elementary school students who were performing significantly below grade level in English Language Arts. I have taken extensive training in teaching reading including Orton Gillingham Associate level (completed practicum), Wilson Reading Overview, Lindamood Bell, and others.
