I am a graduate of Colby College. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics with a minor in Physics, and I have a Master of Arts in Math Education. I have taught HS math for the past decade in NYC public and charter schools, and I have tutored many students across the country. I am most passionate about teaching and tutoring students in math across middle and high school grade levels. I love sharing my passion for math, and I love helping students reach their goals. I approach tutoring by considering the whole student. I like learning about each student's view of mathematics and their unique perspective. This in turn helps me to translate the content in ways that make sense to each student.

I am a graduate of Emory University and Relay Graduate School of Education. During my time at Emory, I studied psychology and dance. I also taught numerous students within and outside of my coursework obligations across various disciplines, e.g. English/Shakespeare, dance, etc.. This unraveled a passion for teaching, which led me to pursue a masters in teaching at Relay Graduate School of Education with a particular focus on learning behaviorism (disabilities). For the last 4 years, I have had the honor to professionally teach PHENOMENAL students in Chicago, Illinois. Many of those students are those who happen to have a disability (or disabilities) and who have helped me to fall in love with teaching as a craft. I enjoy collaborating with students to conjure their full potential and to reconfigure how they go about learning. I humbly believe that learning can be both rigorous and fun. I strive to achieve the latter by curating personalized lesson plans as much as I can for students.I enjoy teaching English, Writing and Math for different reasons. I love to read and write, so the ability to share in that love with students is something I find to be extremely rewarding, especially when students are disinterested (and sometimes afraid) of them. As for math, it can be one of the most exciting languages to learn and to play with once the concepts "click". Overall, I really enjoy teaching and look forward to working with amazing new students!

Education:Hampshire College (Bachelors of Arts)Relay Graduate School of Education (Masters of Teaching Elementary & Exceptional Learners)Harvard Graduate School of Education (Masters of Education Education Leadership & Wellness)I began my career in education after I was accepted into Teach for America (a highly-selective education government program that recruits and trains graduates from elite universities into the teacher workforce). During my service years, I discovered teaching was my superpower and never looked back.Supporting my students at the highest level became my number one priority. When I was a math teacher in middle school/upper elementary, I sought out opportunities to hone my ability to teach literacy when I noticed many of my students struggled to decode word problems. I was trained to administer reading and writing tests to evaluate fluency and comprehension and used that information to guide instruction. I also learned how to support students with IEPs by focusing on neurodiversity in graduate school. Later in my career, I became a history teacher with a focus on developing my student's writing abilities. In the middle of my teaching career, I was recruited to teach other teachers. While I was flattered and excited to be recognized for my talents, one of my major joys in life is being able to teach my students directly. Tutoring is the way I have the best of both worlds. I can continue to write curriculum and coach new educators while still working directly with young people outside the classroom as a tutor.Personally, I've always been very bubbly and curious. I believe that young people benefit most when they are supported by adults, they trust so building trusting relationships with students is a big part of my practice. It's very important to me that young people also gain self-worth/acceptance alongside their schoolwork because a deep-rooted belief in yourself is the foundation of success.Supporting my students at the highest level became my number one priority. Since graduating from Columbia University, I have spent the past three years working in a high performing public elementary charter school located in New York City. For two years, as a Teach for America corps member, I taught 4th grade in both a General Education and in an ICT Setting. During this time, I completed my Master of Arts in Education from Relay Graduate School of Education, graduating with distinction. As a teacher, I led my students to achieve over a 70% pass rate on the rigorous Common Core ELA Assessment, and over a 90% pass rate on the Common Core Math Assessment. This past school year I was an Assistant Principal in my school, overseeing our K-2 instruction for four months and our third and fourth grade instruction for six months. As an Assistant Principal, I prepared our teachers to implement our curriculum in both math and literacy, as well as developed and coached our teachers to better improve their instruction. As such, I have extensive knowledge of the Common Core Standards in both Math and Literacy for the elementary grades, with particular expertise in the third and fourth grade standards. In addition to my ability to tutor elementary aged students, as an undergraduate student at Columbia I tutored middle school aged students through the Double Discovery Center. I have a strong background in the humanities and in writing, and have had demonstrated success in preparing students for standardized tests. With my background in teaching and leadership in a school setting, coupled with my skills gained as a student at Relay, I have developed strategic instructional moves that have led my students to find success across subject matters. I approach my work with each student with the understanding that he or she might need different supports to make academic gains; as a teacher and an Assistant Principal, I differentiated instruction to both support my lower performing students, and simultaneously push my high performing students to exceed expectations. My passion for education and student success, in addition to my ability to form strong relationships with my students, will help me find success with you or your student. Outside of my work in education, I love taking advantage of all that the city has to offer from visiting museums and seeing plays, to exploring unknown neighborhoods and finding new restaurants, I am always seeking out new adventures in New York!

10+ Years Tutoring

I am a mother, an educator, an artist who loves working with children. I am native to Dallas, TX yet, have had many opportunities to travel the world. One stop was Miami Beach, FL where I attended undergrad school in 2001 at Johnson & Wales University receiving a B.S. in Criminal Justice and worked as a Social Worker for two years. After relocating back to Dallas in 2008, I continued my work with children as a Pre-K teacher. Walking through this door of opportunity opened up a new path that I was destined to take. Since then, I have birthed a son, started a homeschool co-op, obtained a M.Ed in Curriculum & Instruction, as well as, worked in local elementary schools as a Campus Director and Instructor for their in-school tutoring program for reading literacy. As you can see, I wear many hats within my career and continue to expand my mission work with children.I currently work as a 1st grade teacher for the 2017-2018 school year.
